Blended Learning Lesson Plan

Lesson Title: Design a FITT plan

Objectives:
Students will be able to describe their fitness plans.
Students will be able to evaluate others fitness plans.
State Standards: HS-2.4 Design a long-term personal fitness plan based on FITT (frequency,
intensity, type, and time) training principles to improve or maintain health-related physical
fitness (for example, plans a summer personal conditioning program).

Context: Why are you teaching this particular lesson? What comes before this lesson in the
larger unit? What previous knowledge will students be bringing into the lesson? What comes
after this lesson in the larger unit? What are you teaching in order to prepare students for the
next lesson topic?
I would be teaching the lesson at the very end of the unit. This lesson would be all about them
implementing everything they have learned about FITT so far and them creating their own plan
would be the final step.
Data: How will students be grouped in this lesson? What hypothetical data will these groupings
be based on? How will data be collected in this lesson for future groupings and teaching?
Students will be grouped based upon their physical abilities I see as fit. Students who share
similar physical abilities will be together. I will record data by going off a check sheet markup
list I will make before the class on google docs so I can use my phone to record.
Materials: List all materials used (i.e. websites, apps, pencils, iPads, computers, worksheets,
diagrams, textbooks, etc.)
Pencils, papers, ipads, myfitnesspal app.

Detailed paragraphs from here on down.

Procedures:
Introduction (10 minutes):
The introduction will be the same as it is in every other class. Students will take a seat in the
bleachers and wait for my instruction on what we are doing today. I will then break the
classroom up into their groups. The groups will have been pre-made by me earlier in the week.

Teacher Directed (10 minutes):

This group will be giving an example fitness plan that I have made. We will go over
together the benefits of the fitness plan I have created. The group will be expected to tell me
things I can either add to the fitness plan of take out of in order to make it as beneficial as
possible. They will also be expected to tell me what each workout is on the sheet and what part
of the body it is working out and how affective it is compared to others.

Collaborative (10 minutes):

Students will be working together in this group to come up with their own fitness plan.
The plan will consist of at least 10 workouts. All in detail by providing the number sets, reps,
time duration, and the intensity of the workout. This should not be hard for students who have
been paying attention in the previous classes. The students will be recording their fitness plans
on an excel sheet on the ipad. Every student will be expected to have made a fitness plan by the
end of this station.

Independent Digital (10-minutes):

This is where each student will be given an ipad. They will then proceed to go to the app
already downloaded on their ipad called myfitnesspal. This app is designed for them to make and
create a fit lesson plan specifically for them based on their height weight and amount of time
each kid normally works out. The app provides examples of good plans and also gives them good
eating options for them to use. The student starts off in the app by putting their age, height,
weight, and their goal of using this app whether it is losing weight gaining weight etc.

Closure (10 minutes):

This part of the class students will proceed to head back to the bleachers. We will go over
what we did in class and I will explain the benefits of doing and actually using a good fitness
plan. Students then will be expected to ask me questions they have. When we are done going over
everything students will head into the locker rooms to change and wait for their next class to
begin.

Rationale:
(Multimedia 1= App or website): Why this piece of multimedia? How does it support
student learning and your standards and objectives? How do you know it is of high-
quality? Refer to the 8 bullet points in the Evaluating Multimedia PowerPoint to support your
rationale. How does this multimedia choice differentiate instruction for all learners (consider
differentiation and assistive technologies)?
The app myfitnesspal is multimedia because it because it provides videos, pictures, and text
explaining things and their benefits. This app will support the student’s objective because it will
guide them in making their fitness plan and even give them examples. The multimedia
differentiates instruction for all learners because the app takes in consideration everyone’s
differences. Each student will create their own account and has to put in their height, age, weight,
and the goal they want from the app. Therefore, every student’s app will provide them with
different things, so it can benefit each student to their needs and goals. I know of the quality of
this app because I have used it in a class here at coastal. This can be a great app for anyone
because it is so individualized.

(Multimedia 2= App, website, video, educational game, song, podcast, etc.): Why this
piece of multimedia? How does it support student learning and your standards and
objectives? How do you know it is of high-quality? Refer to the 8 bullet points in the
Evaluating Multimedia PowerPoint to support your rationale. How does this multimedia
choice differentiate instruction for all learners (consider differentiation and assistive
technologies)?
I choose this multimedia because it is a very simple and efficient tool to use to create something
like a fitness plan. It supports the student because after making the fitness plan they will be able
to sign back into excel from home to get to their plan. It supports my objectives and standards
because it provides a place for the students to record their plans in an orderly fashion. This
differentiate for all learners because since every student is expected to make their own plan they
will be able to with this tool.
