Instructions: This paper consists of FIVE (5) questions. Answer any FOUR (4) questions in the

answer booklet provided. All questions carry equal marks.

Question 1

(a) A new production line is designed to dispense 12-ounce(oz) of a drink into each can as it

passes along the line. After calibration and training of the assembly personnel, five

observations on , the amount of drink dispensed per can, are taken each hour for a 6-

hour period. The following Table 1 summarizes the readings on , collected during this

(a) An experimenter randomly selects = 36 batteries from a production line and measures

their voltages. An average of ̅ = 242.2 is obtained, with a sample standard deviation of

= 2.80. Decide whether the average voltage of the batteries from the production line is

different from 240 by carrying out a hypothesis testing at = 0.05 level of significance

as suggested by the procedure below.
