The resource speaker Mr. Marlon Dela Cruz graduated at Tarlac State University as Cum Laude in
Ab Pschology. He is now the Human Resource Director at TSU. He talked about his actual experiences that
concerns leadership with his own materials using power point presentation. He demonstrated a good boss
or employee traits that must be possessed by individuals, the do’s and don’ts in work places and shared
some tips to stay in the job longer and to avoid common violations normally committed in work places. He
also discussed about PERMA which individuals should apply.
PERMA stands for Positve Emotions, Engagement, Relationships, Meaning and Accomplishment.
Positive emotions deals with being optimistic wherein individuals should see past, present and future in
positive perspective and possessing a positive emotions in the field of career. Engagement deals with
“loving what you do and doing what you love. Meaning talks about what it means to work and what comes
from serving a cause and focusing on something bigger than ourselves. Finally the A or the
accomplishment, it is achieving what your goals in life is. It comes from acknowledging the small
incremental steps. Mr Marlon also cited that it is way easier to achieve such goals by taking forward steps
and is less about the goal itself. By doing so, ones are not pressured looking on a miles away steps in a
ladder and without you knowing “you are already there.” Before ending the discussion he left a quote by
Simon Sinek “it is not what we do, it is why we do it”.
The discussions are being tackled by the presenters and the guest speaker are presented in the
audiences using visuals via powerpoint presentation. As a conclusion the speaker shared a tips on what
individuals can do and what extent do they can at work. It is to express compassion, gratitude and enabling
others to do the same. Show forgiveness using forgiving language. Supporting people who have made
mistakes, how individuals can apply his or her strengths; identify other’s strengths and give them the
opportunity to use them. Reinforce contribution over achievements and lastly to enable people to connect
work to their personal values.
The seminar was timely and fit to the graduating students who are the majority of the audiences. It
was helpful being armed with the knowledge shared by the guest speaker for the students to be prepared
when the time comes that they will be facing the field of work, where one should be equipped with these
knowledges.
