Assessment Reflection

Over the last few weeks in the Teacher Preparation 2 class, there has been many lessons on

assessments. For me, personally, the presentation on GRASPS was the most helpful for a few

reason. One reason is because I had no idea what GRASPS were before I had seen this lesson. It

helped me learn about them. Another reason this presentation was helpful was because the

assessment for this particular lesson was to make a GRASPS ourselves. It gave a great hands on

piece to the lesson that applied what we learned in class to how we could use it later in life in our

career. One of the most relevant presentation was the peer evaluation one. This, in my eyes, is

the most relevant and effective since we are all in school. We all can use this tool now and from

now on while the other lessons were for something to use as a teacher. Olivia and Michaela did a

nice job since I have many ways on how to give feedback and peer evaluate someone else’s

work. Overall, as a class, I think it went well. Hearing other peers sounding happy when they got

their assessments back, not only mine, but others, makes it seem like many of them understood

what was being taught and had a grasp on the topics. One in particular was the lesson on

alternative assessments. This was one that I got to see how everyone else did other than on my

own assessment since everyone presented their poster boards to the rest of the class. Chloe and

Natasha did a great job since everyone was getting good feedback and what they were saying

matched up with my notes. Also another example for why the lessons went well would be Jamie

and Maria’s on formative assessments. At the end of the lesson we had to come up with our own
formative assessments which was a good real world test to see if we understood it. Also we got

to hear others example for their scenarios and what they were saying made sense for that topic

which shows that the class was understanding the lessons.

For Ariana and I’s lesson specifically, I believe that it went pretty well over all. The test

seemed to make people smile and most people got high grades but a couple just went too fast and

did not use their resources. I think to change our lesson, I would put less words on the slides and

more pictures so that we can not just read off of it. Also with that make note cards to be better

prepared and not have to read off of it. Another thing would to have a better hook. We did not

have much time due to the delay but having an energizer or something like that, even if it is only

a minute or two, anything to get the class more involved and excited for the topic would help. I

think the assessment matched what was being taught since the questions were taken straight from

the notes. Overall, with a few changes, I think the lesson could have been much better and more

interesting but it got the information to the audience.

Meeting the goals for this project was difficult. Since Ariana and I decided to choose an

angle on summative assessment, it limited our options. It was easier to meet the first learning

target since that one was more general. The second one was more difficult since we did not have

any content based standards to base out lesson off of. With that one we kind of had to go with

what we thought of and hope it would meet the learning target. The second part of that learning

target though, was easier since teacher developed tests have a mixture of questions to meet needs

of diverse learners. With the different questions, it does not single out someone who easily can

do multiple choice, but allows different students strive. I think that the greatest challenge is

going to be trying to meet the needs of everyone since students are all so different, being able to
meet everyone’s needs is going to be a large task. I think it will be accomposhable but difficult

and take some time to find the perfect balance but can be managed.
