Offensive Player of the Week
Anthony Fucillo, Tufts
(Senior, QB - Winthrop, Mass.)
Fucillo had a record day in a wild, 70-49 loss at Amherst on Saturday, setting NESCAC and program records for 503 passing yards and 525 yards of total offense against the Lord Jeffs. He completed a team-record 42-of-63 passes (.667) with a season-long reception of 65 yards and had a efficiency rating of 143.10. Fucillo tossed three touchdown passes and ran for two more as he led the Jumbos to 671 yards of total offense, also a NESCAC record.

Defensive Player of the Week
Harry Melendez, Trinity
(Senior, CB - Holyoke, Mass.)
Melendez picked off two passes for the fourth time this season during the Bantams’ 25-10 victory over Middlebury on Saturday. His first interception of the day came with four minutes left in the first half and eventually led to a Trinity field goal. Melendez also had three tackles (all solo) and two pass break-ups as part of defensive effort that held Middlebury to just 203 yards of total offense, 23 incompletions on 39 attempts, and without any points for the final 41:57 of the game. Melendez’s nine interceptions through six games ties the NESCAC and the program record for picks in a season.

Special Teams Player of the Week
Matt Rawson, Amherst
(Junior, P/K - Bethesda, Md.)
Rawson accounted for 16 of the Lord Jeffs’ 70 points during a 70-49 win over Tufts on Saturday. In addition to going a perfect 10-for-10 on extra-point attempts (32-for-33 on the year), Rawson punted the ball four times for an average of 41.8 yards, pinning the Jumbos on their own 1-yard line twice. He also ignited the Jeffs’ 35-0 scoring run with less than a minute to play in the second quarter, taking a handoff and rushing three yards for his first career touchdown on a fake field goal. Amherst’s 70 points were the second-highest total in NESCAC history and the most in 17 years.

Notes From Week #6
Amherst
Junior RB Eric Bunker (Topsfield, Mass.) accounted for four touchdowns and 232 yards of total offense in the Lord Jeffs’ 70-49 victory over Tufts on Saturday. He gained 193 yards on the ground (23 carries, 8.4 per carry) and had three rushing touchdowns, both career-highs, and also caught a team-high six passes Bunker for 39 yards and a touchdown. Bunker was part of a rushing attack that amassed 367 yards as part of a total offensive effort which gained 632 yards. His second touchdown of the day came on a 15-yard reception to open the scoring in the third quarter and tied the game at 35-all. Sophomore OLB Sam Clark (Andover, Mass.) and junior ILB Greg Kutzin (Eastchester, N.Y.) each had nine tackles (five solo) and an interception in Saturday’s victory. Senior ILB Jeff Katz (Cheshire, Conn.) led the Jeffs with 11 tackles (two solo), 2.5 going for a combined loss of three yards. Rookie Ryan Silva (Bristol, R.I.) had seven kick returns in the game for a total of 186 yards (26.6 average) and a long of 51. The 70-49 final set a NESCAC record for combined score (119), smashing the previous record of 99 from 2004, and was the second-highest single team score since Trinity tallied 71 points in the 1993 season opener against Bates (71-0). The Lord Jeffs’ victory also tied the program record for longest winning streak, with their current run now at 14 games. They outscored the Jumbos in the third quarter by a 28-0 margin.

Hamilton
Sophomore linebacker Mike MacDonald (Glen Ridge, N.J.) was credited with a career-high 20 tackles (11 solo) during Saturday’s 38-7 setback to Williams. MacDonald had two tackles for a loss of 11 yards along with 1.5 sacks. The 20 tackes are the most by a Continental player since Matt Pitarresi made 21 stops against Amherst in 2004. Senior K/P George Taylor (Pleasantville, N.Y.) averaged 40 yards over nine punts and was 1-for-1 on extra-point attempts in the game. Three of Taylor’s punts landed inside the Eph 20-yard line, and his longest went for 51 yards.

Middlebury
Senior linebacker Andrew Poulin (Irvington, N.Y.) made a career-high 19 tackles (eight solo) during the Panthers’ 25-10 setback at Trinity on Saturday. He also had three tackles for a combined loss of four yards and a pass break-up.

Trinity
Rookie running back Evan Bunker (Topsfield, Mass.) set a new Bantam record for carries in a contest with 44 for 159 yards (3.6 per carry) and added two pass receptions for 38 yards in Trinity’s 25-10 victory over Middlebury. Bunker and the Trinity running game held the ball for 42:20 on Saturday. Junior K/P Tim Costello (Solana Beach, Calif.) was 4-for-4 on field goal attempts and 1-for-1 on extra-point attempts in Saturday’s win over the Panthers, setting a program record with four field goals in one game. His field goals came from distances of 34, 22, 32, and 21 yards. His two second-half punts also pinned Middlebury inside its own three-yard line in the second half.

Bates
Junior wide receiver John Squires (Swampscott, Mass.) caught five passes for 69 yards (13.9 per catch) and also drew a pass interference penalty that took the Bobcats into the red zone during the final minute of a 10-6 setback to Colby. Junior DE Tyler Kuehl (Plymouth, Mass.) picked off a pass and returned it 71 yards, one yard shy of what would have been his second interception returned for a touchdown in as many weeks. Kuehl also had one of Bates’ five team sacks among his four tackles.

Tufts
The Jumbos racked up 49 points against a Lord Jeff defense which had allowed an average of 10.2 points per game heading into Saturday’s showdown. It was the most points allowed by Amherst since 1991. Tufts’ 671 yards of total offense broke the standing NESCAC record by eight yards, set 17 years ago by Trinity in the season-opener against Bates.

Bowdoin
Kevin O’Connor (Westwood, Mass.) had seven tackles, including two for a loss and a sack, in the Polar Bears’ 41-7 setback at Wesleyan on Saturday. The Polar Bears open CBB play this week against Bates, and have either won or shared bragging rights in Maine in each of the past four seasons.

Wesleyan
Running back Shea Dwyer (Marlborough, Conn.) broke the Cardinals’ single-season rushing record and became the program’s first 1,000-yard rusher after recording 164 yards on 27 carries (6.1 per carry) during Saturday’s 41-7 victory over Bowdoin. It was Dwyer’s fifth game with over 100 rushing yards this season, as Dwyer he has 1,015 yards with two games remaining. The previous single-season record at Wesleyan was 871 yards. Dwyer also added a rushing touchdown in the victory, his 11th this season, as he has scored at least one touchdown on the ground in every one of Wesleyan’s outings. Freshman tight end Kevin Hughes (Boxboro, Mass.) made his first appearance this season and caught two passes for 40 yards, both touchdowns.

Colby
Senior wide receiver Patrick Burns (Charles Town, W. Va.) recorded his fourth 90-plus-yard receiving game this season, accumulating 100 yards over five catches in the Mules’ 10-6 victory at Bates. Burns leads the Mules in receiving yards (418), receiving touchdowns (4), average yards per game (69.7), and average yards per catch (15.5) this season. Sophomore DE Ryan Veillette (Westfield, Mass.) was tied for second among his teammates in tackles with seven (six solo) during the game. He had two sacks for a combined loss of 10 yards. Sophomore kicker David Bendit (Emmaus, Pa.) converted his lone field goal attempt of the day, a 21-yard attempt, and made a key extra point in Saturday’s victory. Bendit is 3-for-4 for field goals and 11-of-13 on extra points so far this season.

Williams
Junior wide receiver Tomas Kearney (Foxboro, Mass.) caught eight passes for 131 yards and a touchdown in Saturday’s 38-7 victory at Hamilton. Senior linebacker Pat Barren (Worthington, Ohio) had six tackles (five solo) in the victory, along with a pass break-up.
