Queries for Fifth Month: Simplicity

give my attention to what matters most?

Monthly Meeting for Worship with a
Concern for Business: Fifth Month
Meeting approved with pleasure the new
memberships of Elizabeth Evans and
Randy Ihara.
Friends were saddened to hear of the death
of Jed Shilling on May 1. The date of Jed’s
memorial at Goose Creek has not yet been set.
The Clerk passed on a request from
Ollie Moles, a member of the Baltimore
Yearly Meeting Nominating Committee,
for new BYM committee members. New
members are particularly needed for Faith
and Practice, Indian Affairs, Religious
Education, Stewardship and Finance, and
Unity with Nature.

Treasurer Brian Burgher presented a financial
update for the first months of 2019. Some
regular donations through PayPal and
automatic payments are helping to even
out our income stream, and the Finance
Committee is grateful for those. The report
was approved with thanks.
Frannie Taylor read the annual report of
the Jane Pancoast Shepherd Scholarship
Committee. Twenty-five scholarships were
awarded this spring. Friends approved this
report with thanks.
Friends reviewed the final committee
assignments for 2019. With a few
corrections, the list was approved. The
Nominating Committee for 2020 committees
includes Fred Bishopp and Rich Weidner,
co-conveners, Martha Mason Semmes,
Allen Cochran, Ed Devinney, and Annie
Carlson. Fred Bishopp recommended that the
Nominating Committee meet with committee
clerks and co-clerks in September.
Friends discussed creating a Meeting-owned
Google Docs or something similar for sharing
Meeting documents. The Archive Committee
is discussing this, and will return to Meeting
with its suggestions for how to consolidate
our electronic records.
The Ministry and Oversight and Religious
Education Committees are working together
on procedures for Friendly Adult Presences
in First Day School.

with all kinds of skills the opportunity to
enjoy some meaningful and satisfying work.

or with your family; come for a day or for

Jed Shilling, who moved to California last First Day School
fall to live near his daughter Kaile, died on student
May 1. Jed suffered from ALS. He will be
buried in Goose Creek Burying Ground. The
date of his memorial here at the Meeting
House will be announced at a later time. The
family asks that any memorial donations
be made to Friends of the Blue Ridge
Mountains (friendsofblueridge.org). We are
holding Kaile and Kaitlin and their families
in the Light.
The Easter breakfast was, as always,
wonderful! Many thanks to all who cooked,
served, cleaned up, and brought food.
