Shauna Follett/ J225787 The Ubiquitous device

BSBMGT407: Blog Post Let’s talk about the ubiquitous device or as its modern known name the mobile, how
Assessment 4 much of our lives is dedicated to this device? Our mobiles have both positive and
negative connotations about its capability and usage in every day life. Let’s face fact
how long could you without checking social media, emails or even the dreaded bank
account in the space of two minutes, no desktop or laptop equals no problem. But have we become too
dependent of this device?

Safety First
Let talk examples, there has been a major technological advance from where we resided with mobiles 20 years
ago, now your mobile can be used not only to interact socially but also safety. We are all familiar with how
mobiles work when interacting with other people via text, call or through a social media platform.
Everyone has the right to feel safe, so how can we protect ourselves with a mobile device you ask? Apps
surrounding CCTV cameras and features of the mobile such as google maps have become easier ways to feel
safe and secure. Your home is your safe place what better way to protect that safety net then by installing CCTV
cameras that can be tracked with an app on your mobile, most of these apps will have a burglar alarm that
immediately contacts your local police station.

What about when you’re not inside your house, how can we stay safe outside? I found google maps to be one
of the most essential apps that I have on my phone, it ensures I get from point A to point B without ending up
lost and frustrated and before you ask, I am team Android. You can also screenshot your location or any
vehicles licence plates you get into, (example if you’re having to use uber to get to your destination, however
you think he looks like a criminal and you spent the last few nights watching law and order) DUN DUN…
That’s

Applications
Nowadays there is an application for everything from helping with weightless, cooking recipes, DIY’s and my
favourite toddler tricks, who doesn’t like the aesthetically pleasing tiny sandwiches. (It’s best to be prepared!)
Let’s be honest here how many apps do we have on our phones? I for one know I have about 35 applications
from commonwealth bank app to a healthy smoothie recipe app to which I still haven’t opened yet. (so much
for new year’s resolutions) I believe you can tell a lot from a person by what they deem important on their
phone, for example is the background picture a loved one or a family pet, or is it a downloaded picture off the
internet of some where warm and far away from others… you know who you are! Apart from the applications
on your phone you can also tell a lot by what phone they have; what team are they? Samsung or iPhone?

Come on people!!! Look at that.

Imagine a crappy day a work,
lunch time happens and then
BAM! An owl sandwich and
strawberries

Let’s talk my favourite application in the world after pay, its reverse layby. Say you’ve just been paid by your
crappy waitress job (so little moneys) and that new handbag you want from David Jones is $200 and you think,
is it really worth $200? You’re debating it over a couple of week then you decide to tell your partner that the
handbag is actually only $50 just fortnightly for 8 weeks….. opps. Maybe don’t tell them that part.

Do you spend more on After pay if there is a

sale?

Paid applications
Some applications will ask you for a monthly payment like Spotify or YouTube Premium for extra benefits.
Spotify asks for a payment of $12 a month in order to play your music without the constant reminder of
advertisements ruining when the beat drops. Personally, I can’t live without my Spotify account as someone
who rides public transport to and from the city most days, I wouldn’t be able to cope with a 40-minute
commute without a little Bon Jovi. Or YouTube Premium this application allows you to watch Tv shows already
screening, offline usage and advertisement free. Even though I haven’t used YouTube Premium when you
watch a lot of YouTube like I do (so much free time… not) I tend to buy Disney movies when I’m sad or happy,
just all day every day Disney!

Samsung VS Apple
now we all know the two major phone companies that swarm our lives with their new mobile devices, taking
our money... trapping us in useless two-year contracts that we always go over…. Well I do.
Let dive into a little bit about them, then you can decide what team you’re on!!

Samsung has become an international name, everyone knows someone with a Samsung mobile or appliance in
their house. Samsung’s goal is to welcome new challenges for their users and provide opportunities, their
mission. To “inspire the world with our innovative technologies, products and design that enrich people's lives
and contribute to social prosperity by creating a new future.” (Philosophy of Samsung, 2019).

Apple has produced an ecosystem of creations for their suppliers, Apples goal “in a nutshell, is to obtain stellar
products and services within tight timeframes, at a cost that represents the best possible value to our
customers and shareholders.” (Apple and Procurement, 2019).

The chart to the left explains how even

though Samsung has sold more than 30
different mobile phones in 2016, compared
to Apple who have sold just three versions of
iPhone. However, Apple now makes twice as
much revenue from mobile devices.

Moving forward
Mobile phones have been around since 1970’s but became of fashion mid 90’s early 2000’s, there first
appearance and usage being to call other mobiles or landlines. Now moving towards 2020 our mobile phones
are used for many other usages such as allowing users to send and receive text messages, emails, and photos
and video, play games, listen to music. But as technology advances, we now have internet access from the click
of a button, that’s if the Wi-Fi isn’t lagging.

How the Ubiquitous device is helped digital marketing?

Marketing in the year 2019 has become an easier with the advantage of mobile technology, people are
communicating, sharing and posting with a flick of the button. Advantages of using the Ubiquitous device for
marketing is to connect quickly and conveniently for all users. Did you know… 80% of mobile device time is
spent on Mobile Applications? And More than 65% of emails are first opened on a Smartphone? (Shivendra,
Tiwari, 2019). These are the people who are checking social media, emails and other accounts on an
application on their phones on public transport or during their lunch breaks. Can u imagine all that organic
advertising businesses can use by just sharing their intended post, so much easier then 50 years ago?

“Mobile use is growing faster than all of Google’s internal predictions.”

Has it become to easy?

Has the Ubiquitous Device become an escape for those who don’t wish to communicate with the outside
world, or has it simply made communicating easier? Its hard to say, I personally feel as if I spent too much time
on the phone, scrolling through Instagram and Facebook mindlessly at 12am looking at pictures of skinny and
fit women trying to get motivated whilst trying to fit a whole KitKat in my mouth. Instead of actually cooking
something nutritious and healthy… where is the fun in that?

To summarise todays entry, I spend too much time on my phone, I haven’t shaved my legs and I haven’t started
my diet yet. We will start Monday, too late to start now.
