2. Application

Material thickness 1 – 3 mm

Forming direction Upward

Bead form 2x4; 3x6; 4x8; 5x10

Bead height Hmax. = 2 x material thickness

Bead width 4(2x4); 6(3x6); 8(4x8); 10(5x10)

The required beading punch depends on the material thickness:
1.0 mm; 1.5 mm; 2.0 mm; 2.5 mm; 3.0 mm.
The step on the punch (AF) is used for alignment.

Spacings larger than the above minimum values may be required if

greater distortion occurs due to the material quality.

Feed 1 – 2 mm/stroke
The bead quality depends on the feed step.

New tool

The beading tool may only be used from forming height.

Tool length The tool length must be entered in data field "Length of forming
tool" in the tool data at the control. It is measured from the top of
the alignment ring to the lowermost point of the punch.
The following lengths are valid for these tools:

Variable forming height The value associated with this position is entered in the PTT table
of the machine control for variable forming height.
Tool 2x4 3x6 4x8 5x10
VU value 37.7 39.7 41.7 43.7
VU value Tab. 7

Note
The tool can work from the so-called "Variable forming height
(VU)". The value in millimeters, with the abbreviation "VU=", is
engraved on the tool. On machines that work with the inch system,
the indicated value must be converted into inches. The forming
height must be entered in the "General tool data" at the control.
The parameter for this is called "Variable forming height". On some
machines it is called "Optimized forming height".

Active die (Option) Die height

At the machine, the die height must be entered in the tool data of
the control. The die height is measured from the underside of the
die plate to the highest point of the die.
Size 1 Size 2

Stroke types
The following stroke types can be selected for optimum use of the
tool:
 Punch without support position.
TruPunch 5000: The displayed value for the stroke type is 1.

Necessary options
Some tools can only be used with a special machine option e.g.
"Active die".
For this tool, the applicable value is 0 = none.

4. Option "Quick beading"

With this option, a beading tool oscillating at a high stroke rate can
be used to produce a continuous bead from "Quick beading"
height.
The following machines feature "Quick beading":
 TruPunch 1000 / 2020 / 3000 / 5000
 TruMatic 3000 / 6000 / 7000
 TC 1000 / 2000 / 2010 / 2020 / 3000 / 5000 R
 TC 3000 / 6000 L

Feed rate Recommended value: 1.5 m/min.

This value is given by TruTops as the default value for the
machines mentioned.
To increase the part quality, it may be required in isolated cases to
reduce the feed rate value because of the high number of
influencing parameters.

There is a loss of quality with high feed rates!

ATTENTION
 With feed rates of greater than 1.5 m/min, expect lower quality,
wavy sheets or the pulling of sheets out of the clamps.

5. TruTops

Tool type 13 and 19 TruTops handles beading tools as a forming tool, tool type 13, and
it is supported starting with the following software versions.
TruTops Version
TruTops starting with V1.0
TruTops Boost starting with V1.0
Tab. 10

Option "Quick beading" In this case, TruTops handles beading tools as "Quick beading
tool" – Tool type 19.
