DESCRIPTION - OPERATION : CONTROLLED ALTERNATOR

1. Description

2. ROLE
The controlled alternator converts the mechanical energy (rotation of the engine) into electrical energy in the form of rectified
alternating current.
The control of the piloted alternator regulates the output voltage according to the ancillaries battery charge status and the action
of the driver to reduce electricity consumption and therefore fuel consumption.

The controlled alternator, activated by the ancillary drive belt, drives the rotor which acts as an inductor.
The rotor is made up of an electromagnet continuously powered by an excitation current.
The winding around the coil of the electromagnet, with the excitation current passing through it, creates an induction magnetic
field.
The stator, which acts as a fixed armature, is made up of coils which are subjected to the variations in magnetic fields that
produce an alternating current.
The alternating current produced is rectified by the power diode bridge.
The current produced is regulated using the excitation circuit with the help of the regulator piloted by the engine management
ECU.
