The teacher will start the lesson off by asking the students what features make up a complete sentence.
The students will raise their hands and share the features of a complete sentence. After the features of a
complete sentence have been listed, the teacher will highlight on capitalization in a complete sentence. The
teacher will now transition to the BrainPOP video on capitalization and play it on the front board for the
whole class to see. The subtitles will be utilized for any students having difficulties hearing and if there are
any ELL students; the accommodations necessary will be made. The students will watch the BrainPOP video
and once the video is over the teacher will instruct the students to turn and talk with their neighbor about
what they learned about capitalization. After about three minutes the students will share to the whole class
what they discussed about capitalization with their partner.
The teacher will now pass out the BrainPOP quiz for the class to take on their own. After the students
complete the BrainPOP quiz they will hold on to their copy and the teacher will put the quiz on the front
board for the whole class to see. The students will raise a finger for what answer choice they chose. The
teacher will say the majority answer the class chose and call on someone to explain why that answer is
correct or incorrect. The students will be able to grade their quiz as they review the quiz.
The student’s incorrect answers will tell the teacher what they still need practice on, and the students can
get more practice by utilizing the activities on BrainPOP. To extend the students learning to a higher learning
level, the teacher will advise the students to create their own quiz on capitalization and swap it with their
partner to take. To conclude the lesson, the teacher will recap when capitalization is necessary in a complete
sentence. Feedback will be provided to the students as the teacher is going through the quiz on the white
board with the class an explaining why an answer was correct and why an answer is incorrect.

Reflective Practice:

The activity created impacts the students learning by giving them the opportunity to learn about
capitalization in an interactive/collaborative way. The students could extend the lesson with other technology
by creating a movie about capitalization. The students can individually or as a group, create a movie that
could teach a peer about capitalization.
