Subject I Genpower Battery Maintenance
Guidelines

Family l All Series up to 400KVA (Gensets) P a g e l 1 off 2

Purpose of this Field Alert is to make Field Service Engineers / Service advisor at
dealership aware about maintenance of GENPOWER batteries for CPCBII DG sets

GENPOWER Battery is a new product introduced in the market along with CPCBII DG
sets since Sep’14, these are maintenance batteries, and hence these needs to be top
up with Distilled water (DM water) during its usage from time to time

Reason For release of Field Alert:

It is observed that GENPOWER Batteries few cases reported on maintenance lapses on

DM water top up, this leads to battery completely dry / partially or may even cause for
battery burst.

Action required from field:

While attending any of the CPCBII sets, mandatorily verify acid level / if needed must
be filled only distilled water (DM water) to be filled up to the bottom level of the vent cap
barrel.

General requirement, batteries must be topped up at regular intervals, charging

parameters must be monitored regularly;

- GENPOWER battery must be topped up once in 3 months, if charging conditions comply with the charging
parameters 13.80V to 14.20V per battery or 27.6V to 28.40V for 24V system

- GENPOWER battery must be topped up once in 2 months, if charging conditions crossed beyond 14.20V
up to 14.4V per battery

- *Recommended to use microprocessor based / SMPS Battery charger for accurate control of charging
voltage output on battery.

Follow recommendations and maintenance practices as guide;

•Shrink wrap [polythene cover] on the battery must be removed completely at the time of installation,

•Inspect battery terminals for corrosion and clean and tighten all electrical connections at regular intervals and
smear petroleum jelly at battery terminals during all A / B / C / D checks.

•Fitment / removal of battery should be done with utmost care, ensure battery terminals not get damaged, however
discontinue to use battery, if battery terminal gets damaged.

• Under sized battery terminal clamps are strictly avoided, replacement of defective or worn out clamps at the time
of replacement.

• DM water top up, when acid level drops below the bottom line of the vent caps / when observed acid levels low.

• Battery must always fit in the battery tray to hold batter firmly to avoid damage due to vibration, hence necessary
arrangement must be made for proper fitment of Battery in the right size of the tray

• Allow rest of 1 minute in between each successive start / do not attempt more than 3 cranks to start the engine,
battery voltage less than 12.0V do not start, unless battery fully charged and OCV levels reached beyond 12.50V
