STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

Self-medication has been on the increase in Ghana over a long period of time (source).

According to Donkor (2012), the prevalence of self-medication is 70%. Similarly, another study

by Adama (2017) showed that 74.1% of Ghanaians practice self-medication.

Include the effect of self-medication in this problem statement

Anecdotally, we have observed that significant number of people living in Teshie-Tsuibleo often

self-medicate. We have observed that most patients who come to the hospital usually had self-

medicated and they come to the hospital only if their conditions did not subside after the

medication.

Although, self-medication is common in Teshie-Tsuibleo, there seem to be little study on the

factors influencing self-medication in Teshie-Tsuibleo. Hence the need to investigate the factors

influencing self-medication in Teshie-Tsuibleo.
