ABSTRACT

WRITING ABILITY OF RECOUNT TEXT USING PICTURE SERIES TECHNIQUES IN


CLASS VIII IN ANGKASA KUTA BADUNG Middle School

This study aims to determine whether the use of picture series techniques can improve
the skills of writing recount text for students of Angkasa Kuta Middle School in the
2012/2013 academic year who were the subjects of this study. The sample of this study was
class A students consisting of 31 students.
This research was conducted in the form of classroom action research consisting of
four stages in each cycle, namely implementation, action, observation, and reflection. This
study consists of three cycles, namely one cycle called the pre-action cycle used to prepare
the final test before the application of the technique is carried out. Then the next two cycles,
namely cycle I and cycle II are implemented to apply this technique. Data collection uses four
instruments, namely tests, observations, questionnaires and documentation. The results of
data analysis are presented in the form of tables and graphs also with descriptions of
descriptions.
The results of quantitative data seen from the application of picture series techniques
can improve the writing skills of eighth grade students of Angkasa Kuta Middle School. This
can be seen from the results of the evaluation of the test and the results of observations which
always increase during the implementation of this technique. The evaluation results before
the implementation of this technique are 70.22 which indicates that this value is included in
the category of lack and does not meet the KKM value standards. After the application of this
model in the first cycle the average value of students increased to 75.15. With the holding of
the second cycle as an improvement from the first cycle, the average value of students has
increased to 79.54 in the good category. The increase that occurs in each cycle is also
supported by qualitative data.
