FP002 O&R - EVALUATION

OBSERVATION AND RESEARCH IN THE CLASSROOM

PRÁCTICA REFLEXIVA Y DESARROLLO PROFESIONAL

EVALUATION

The student has three opportunities to pass the subject (Ordinary call, Resit 1 and Resit 2).
Carefully read the following document for information on each of them.

ORDINARY CALL:

The subject is evaluated according to the following activities:

EVALUATION ACTIVITIES PERCENTAGE OF THE FINAL

GRADE

Portfolio 20 %

Assignment 60 %

Exam 20 %

It is mandatory to do all of them to pass the subject and the minimum passing grade is 7/10. If
the student has received a passing grade in the subject, evaluation activities cannot be
resubmitted for a better grade.

Grading scale

The subject is evaluated in the virtual campus (VC) based on a scale that goes from 0 to 10,
with a minimum passing grade of 7/10. The TEFL program is part of an interuniversity program
offered by several universities. When the student enrolls, they choose the university through
which they will obtain the degree. If that university follows a different evaluation scale, the
grades obtained in the VC will be adapted through a process of internal conversion to the
university’s evaluation scale, and published accordingly in the student’s record (PANAL). This
means that, for example, if a student obtains 7/10 in the campus and they are enrolled in a
university where the minimum passing grade is 8/10, the student’s record (PANAL) will show
8/10.

Access to submit assignments and tests in the VC

Access to submit assignments and tests in the VC is not permanently open.

The student must submit both evaluation activities by the official date of delivery (the day
indicated in the academic calendar). However, the access to the VC will be open three days
before the final delivery date for those students who wish to submit early.

Access is open a few days longer but only for those students who have been granted an
extension by the professor. Assignments or tests that are submitted after the academic calendar
FP002 O&R - EVALUATION

deadline without this extension (extra official authorization on the professor’s part) will not be
evaluated.

Portfolio (20% of the final score):

The academic portfolio is a didactic tool. The student must select two learning samples from the
subject that, according to their opinion, are or have been significant for their training process
and explain why. These learning samples must show, on the one hand, the skills, knowledge and
abilities developed in the subject, and, on the other, shortcomings and difficulties detected. This
work must be done individually.

Critical reflection is of utmost importance in the process of developing the portfolio. The
student must critically reflect on the selected experiences, their teaching experience (if they
have any), their experience as a student in other formative situations, and the self-evaluation on
his performance in the subject. That is, the portfolio does not consist of an accumulation of
samples or work, but must show the reflective processes so students outline a plan to improve
their performance within the framework of the subject. In this sense, reflection is oriented to
action.

To know what the assignment consists of, see the “Portfolio” template available in the subject’s
“Evaluation” section and instructions sent to the forum by the teacher. The assignment should
consist of all the formal requirements that are detailed in them. To submit it, follow these steps:

1. Click on the “Portfolio” icon (available in the subject’s “Evaluation” section).

2. Click on the “Add submission” button found in the lower central part.

3. Next, drag and drop the assignment’s file in “You can drag and drop files to add them”
space (in the “File submissions” section).

4. Once the assignment has uploaded, click on “Save changes”.

All group members have to submit it.

Test-type exam (20% of the final grade):

The test can be found in the Evaluation section of the subject, within the Test icon, and it
consists of 11 questions that students must answer in 3 consecutive hours. Once this time
expires, access to it is closed.

To do it, the following steps should be taken:

1. Press the “Exam” icon (available in the subject’s “Evaluation” section).

2. Click on Me comprometo a completar la evaluación con aportaciones originales y propias,

sin cometer plagio.

3. Next, press “Attempt quiz now” and “Start attempt”. We recommend that the students only
press this button if they are very sure that they are academically prepared to answer the
questions, have enough time to complete them and feel under the best possible conditions.
When the button is pressed, all 11 questions are uploaded and students can begin to answer from
FP002 O&R - EVALUATION

that moment on, as time then starts counting. The counter is available under the navigation
menu by the questionnaire, which appears on the left side of the screen.

The answer is automatically saved when clicking on the answer. Once the student has answered
all questions, they must click on the “Next” button to submit the test and will immediately see
the status of all the questions (answer saved or not yet answered). The students must make sure
that they have answered all questions. Answers can be changed. When the student is sure that
the test is complete and no more changes will be required, they must click on the “Submit all
and finish” (the system requires confirmation). ATTENTION: If you do not click on this
button, the test will not be sent, and as such, it will not count as being submitted (with all the
academic consequences this might imply).

Though it is not recommended to abandon the test before finishing it, if for some reason
the student must stop for a while, it is very important to check if all answers solved
have been appropriately saved. It is possible to check this in the “Quiz navigation”
menu, on the left of the screen. If the question appears with a grey-like shadow, it
means it has been answered and saved.

On the other hand, though abandoning the exam, the time keeps on running. To come
back to the quiz, once within the Exam icon, press “Continue the last attempt”.

RESIT 1

I. CASE 1. FAILING SUBJECT IN THE ORDINARY CALL

Subjects with a grade lower than 7/10 in the Ordinary Call are considered failed. In such a case,
students shall submit the evaluation activities of the Resit 1 call in the following semester.
Students are not expected to re-attend the subject.

The subject’s evaluation consists of the following evaluation activities:

EVALUATION ACTIVITIES PERCENTAGE OF THE FINAL

Assignment 40 %

Exam 40 %

The student shall submit the Resit activities in the semester that follows, on the Ordinary Call
official date of the following group, which is when the access will open. To know the exact
submission dates for the Resit, students must identify the calendar of the following group in
“Academic Calendars”. For example, a student from the group fp_tefl_2016-06 group would
have to look for the fp_tefl_2016-10 group calendar and submit the Resit activities in the date of
their ordinary call.
FP002 O&R - EVALUATION

Student should keep in mind that they will not have access to a different group´s forum during
the Resit call and they should continue to study the subjects with their original group.

Continuous Assessment – Ordinary call (20% of the final grade):

The teacher will take into account the grade that the student has obtained in the Portfolio
(Ordinary Call) and this will be a 20% of the final grade in the Resit 1 call.

Individual assignment (40% of the final grade):

To know what the Resit 1 consists of, see the “Assignment – Resit 1” template available in the

II. CASE 2: NOT SUBMITTED EVALUATION ACTIVITIES IN THE ORDINARY CALL

If a student did not submit the evaluation activities in the Ordinary Call with the group they
belong to, they are allowed to submit the pending activities in the following semester, with the
following group. However, students must take into account that:

- They will have to study the subject content individually.

- The submission might vary depending on the pending tasks:

 If they did not submit the Portfolio: they will have to submit the Portfolio, which
will have a maximum value of 8/10.

 If they did not submit an assignment: they will have to do the assignment
individually and follow the instructions above.

 If they did not submit the exam: the student will have to follow the instructions
above.

Therefore, students in this situation must contact the teacher in order to know what to do. To
know the submission date, the student shall go to the “Academic Calendars” and identify it in
the calendar of the following group. For example, a student from the group fp_tefl_2016-06 will
have to locate the submission date for this subject in the calendar of the fp_tefl_2016-10 group.
