REFLECTON PAPER: GROUP 2 REPORT: TRAFFIC ANALYSIS

1. Personal Reaction:

The reporter focused on the specific points of the problem. This report is just the
continuation of the topic of group 1. The report stated clearly the background of the issue and
explained the keywords used concisely. And also, not all the members of group one participated
evenly for the report. Only one representative of the group reports. The reporter also cited few
examples relating to their topic.

2. Significant of the Studies/issues and concern:

The results of the study will provide Students new perspective and knowledge about traffic
analysis that they may use in the future as an engineer. It will give the Students an idea for them
to contribute to our society. Also, it will provide Engineers to innovate ideas and create a solution
that may solve traffic problems.

3. Problem:

In this topic the main issues/concerns with regards to the topic:

 What are the factors affecting highway capacity?

 How can studying of Highway capacity helps reduce traffic congestion?

 What is the importance of Highway capacity?

4. Objectives:

 To know the factors affecting highway capacity.

 To know how studying Highway capacity can help reduce traffic congestion.
 To know the importance of Highway Capacity.
5. Time context:
The report was conducted on January 12, 2019.

6. View Point:
In this case study the responsible people/agencies who can handle this particular issue are
the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, Local Government Units and the governing
board and policy making of MMDA is the Metro Manila Council

7. Courses of consideration:
 Traffic analysis is a broad subject which the reporters cannot cover it all due to time
constraint.
 There are formulas cited in the report, but the reporters did not show how to use it in a
given problem.
 The reporters did not cite some situational problems using traffic analysis for traffic
congestions.

8. Alternative Action:

 The reporters should summarize all topics relating to traffic analysis.

 All members should participate and give contribution to their report.
 The reporters should cite some road situational problems so that students can foresee
what an engineer does to solve the problem.
9. Action Plan

TIME FRAME ACTIVITIES ORGANIZATION

7 days or more (depending on Analysis of area boundary Traffic Engineering
the location) limits. consultants, MMC and
MMDA
5 days Analysis Tools selection. Traffic Engineering
consultants, MMDA and LGUs
1 month or more Collecting and Analyzing data Traffic Engineering
consultants, MMDA and LGUs
1 month or more Analyzing Traffic using Traffic Engineering
Analytical tools. consultants, MMC and MMDA

10. Recommendation:

 The Reporters should cite some ideas or suggestion on how the traffic analysis works for
reducing traffic congestions.
 The Reporters investigate further about the factors affecting traffic flow and the roles of
determining the highway capacity to reduce traffic congestion.
 The next group reporters should be well prepared for the topic they are reporting and
should full understand the content of the report.

11. Conclusion:
 Traffic analysis can reduce traffic congestion using different parameters for a given
situation. This provides us data’s to form innovate designs to lessen congestions.
 To conduct a traffic analysis is first to analyze the boundary limits of the areas, and
choosing the right tools for the given situation followed by the collection of data that leads
to conclusion of the traffic characteristics of the area.
 Traffic flow is important because it show us how our traffic management systems works,
either the system is efficient or not.
