Sub : Assessment Centre

Dear ********,

Please refer to our email dated 11 August 2010

As a part of the pilot selection process, you are requested to attend the Assessment
Centre at Mumbai on 14th August 2010 at Jet Airways Engineering Hangar, Opp Indian
Airlines Sports Club, Old Airport, Kalina, Near Military Camp, Kalina, Santacruz (E), Mumbai,
Mumbai 400 029. You must report to the venue at 9.00 am. Dress code: Formal.
What Preparation do you need. We say:
You really do not need to prepare anything specific for the assessment centre. You are not
being assessed on what you know but on how you think and how you apply your thoughts.
Just be yourself; always try to be at your best. Remain focused and motivated for the whole
day.
Listen carefully to the instructions given to you at the start of the day and also at the
beginning of each exercise.
The assessment is loosely based on samples of real work, called exercises. They are made
simple by design. You however, need to take the task seriously.
Not everyone is good at every exercise, but remember that the assessment centre will give
you a number of chances to show your strengths and meet the criteria.
You are not being measured against the other candidates but against certain predetermined
criteria. It is quite possible that every candidate in your group will achieve the necessary
standard, in which case offers will be made to all. Similarly there maybe no one suitable in a
group or even in a day.
Kindly note, you will have to make your own arrangements for travel, conveyance,
accommodation and boarding during theAssessment Centre. We will provide tea/coffee and
lunch during the day. Plan your journey carefully so that you arrive in good time for the
start of the assessment centre.
You are requested to carry this letter along with an updated resume, copy of the valid
Indian CPL and 1 passport size photograph.
Since the entry at the Hangar premises is restricted, you are requested to present your
photo I.D. (driving license, passport, Pan Card) to the Security at the point of entry.
You may note that car parking facility is not available at the premises. However, limited pay
and park facility is available at Gate No.8 of Old airport which is about
1 km from the hangar facility.
In the event of your successfully clearing the Assessment Centre, you will be required to
attend an interview one day after the date of your assessment centre.
We welcome you once again to Jet Airways Assessment centre.

Yours sincerely,
For JET AIRWAYS (I) LTD

TEJASHREE KUMAR
looking for basic qualities.. Leadership, presence of mind, power to convince someone and
so on...

hey buddy!!.. i gave my GD close to 2 years ago , so i may not be able to paint an exact
picture for you but i will try..
At the start of the Assessment centre a representative from the HR will come and give a
brief idea of the activities which will happen during the day, everyone will be given tag
numbers and you will be judged or known according to that.. groups of 5 will be formed and
ur group has to interact with another group of 5 during the activities..
There will be 5 topics , which keep on changing.. 2 are based on real life accidents or
incidents and u have to debate.. 2 are " what if " kinda scenes.. u will be given a list of 10
to 12 things and u have to prioritize those things and come to a conclusion with your
group.. 1 in which u will be given scenarios like " you are a commander and you see rubber
pieces on the runway, take action... or you see a CB cloud in front of ur flight path, take
action.. or there is a bomb threat on your frequency , take action....
these were the topics which were there at my time.. they change.. but you should be able
to paint a picture with this..
cheers!! and best of luck

Ace the technical pilot is an excellent book for your interview, covers pretty much
everything. You should know your jeppesen charts inside out as they love to grill you on
this.
When i went for my interview they asked me a lot of basic aerodynamic questions like
explain a stall, and whats a laminar airfoil etc.they can also ask you about Indian climatology
so go through meteorology as well. Also study a bit of performance like TORA,ASDA etc.
The pilots who are sitting in the panel are very friendly and make you feel very comfortable
so that you dont get nervous,
They can also ask you all about CRM questions so prepare for that as well!

Interview:

My interview lasted for about 45 mins. HR questions were: About yourself, Why flying as a
career, why Jet Airways, they asked me about my non-flying job, etc.
Flying related: TORA/TODA/ASDA,etc, Induced Drag, Various methods to reduce induced
drag, Winglets, why 777 don't have winglets but 747's do, RVSM, how flaps work, types of
flaps and how they affect the aerodynamics, types of entries into a hold, V1, V2, etc speeds,
I was given an enroute chart and asked to explain the entire route from Delhi to Lucknow.
In the beginning I was asked which subject I had prepared the best.

I wore a suit with tie. A shirt and tie is well accepted but make sure you were a light
coloured shirt, preferably White. Socks should be the same colour as your trousers,
preferably black.

IPT:

I was given a VECC 01 (Can't remember L or R) VOR/DME chart about half an hour before
the test to go through and asked questions based on the chart.
T/O on auto pilot and once airborne asked to fly a specific heading, then intercept a couple
of outbound radials, then a couple of inbound radials, entry into the hold, 2 holds, and then
as per the published procedure fly outbound and intercept finals for the VOR/DME approach.
Charts will be given, study them inside out. Read the jeppessen manual and know each and
every symbol.

Please practice DME Arcs, ILS/DME approaches, NDB approaches and intercepts, Missed
approach procedures. Just to make sure you know everything.

Medicals:

Following are the blood & urine tests you've to do:

1. CBC
2. Liver Function Test
3. Prothrombin Time Test
4. Fasting Blood & Urine
5. Post Sugar Blood & Urine ( 2 hrs after consuming 75 gms of glucose, you can't eat
anything in between)
6. Urine Routine
7. Stool Routine
8. Lipid Profile
Other than this, you've to do Stress Test (on the treadmill), Opthal, ENT, Audiometry, Chest
X-ray & General Physical.
If there are any abnormalities, you'll be asked to repeat the test again with certain
instructions.

Hope it helps.

1 of my frnds cleared d interview today.. some d questions he hs bn asked r

"difference b/w turbo prop and turbo jet engines, if pitot is blocked wat wil happen to ASI,
explain with diagram, if static is blocked wat wil be reading in a climb, CP, PNR, Radius of
turn, if u r flying at Leh wat wil happen to d radius of turn, RVSM, induced drag, approach
chart normal questions."
dats wat he told me..

these were her words:

""they started with introduction...then family...then approach plates ....enroute charts..basic

technical ...working of asi, vsi, altimeter...pitot block static block ...jet engine working
...bypass....then metar, speci...trend in a metar is valid for how much time....taf...
In case of approach plates and enroute charts u must know in and out of everything
And whatever u say the next question has max chances to be picked out of your words...be
careful
Don't use words jinka ache se matlab ni pata ho.
Incase u dont know something...dont guess
But otherwise they r friendly people...allow u to be comfortable...""

hope it will help..

Hey guys had my interview on the 10th .

The questions were - Introduction , personal questions .

Compressor stall , why , what does it lead to ?

Read a Metar , basic questions on qnh , types of fog , types of icing

Enroute chart - what projection , why ? why not mercator ? [ duration 30 min]
My ipt was on the 13th -

Chart was Mumbai vor rwy27

Profile - Takeoff - climb rwy heading to 4000 , two outbound intercepts , 2 inbound
intercepts , fly on a random heading for some time ( to disorient you) , then come inbound
for a vor dme approach. [duration 30 min]

Arrange for atleast a 4 day stay . Some people had their ipts as much as 5 days after the
interview.

Know your basics , all the best v

Enroute charts are lambart projections only

Finished with my IPT

Very basics..
Ahemdabad VOR RWY 23

1 outbound and 1 inbound intercept.

Direct entry into the hold
VOR approach.

Remember to listen to the instructions and Read-back to the instructions.

You just need to operate the Course and Heading bug.

All the best.

Maverick10:

Expect some heavy grilling on Jeppesen approach chart, SID, STARS, airport charts and
enroute charts. This is 100% sure that they will cover length and breadth of it.

Study ACE The Technical Pilot in and out. I bet you will not fail the interview. You may take
around a month's time to finish the book. But trust me by the 30th day you will be very
confident with every question that they could possibly ask.

For HR part, prepare a 45sec introduction and a few followup questions like "why do you
want to join Jet airways?", "Who all are there in your family?" etc.

All the best.

Practise:

1. Track In, Track Out

2. Radial Interception Inbound and Outbound
3. Hold entry
4. VOR Approaches only (No ILS)
5. MAP
6. Position reporting (They will ask for position reporting 4-5 times)
7. Approach Briefing (Practice very well)

Practice all approaches of following airports. Chances are that you will get one of them:

1. VABB
2. VAAH
3. VOMM
4. VECC
5. VIDP

My IPT with jet included the following things..

2 radials outbound interception..
1 radial inbound interception..
Position reporting ( observing the RMI)..
Practical approach briefing ( i read out the entire approach plate)
Published hold..
Full VOR approach into chennai..

Before the actual IPT starts in the briefing room you will be given time to get accustomed to
the chart you will be using ( approx 10-15 mins)... some questions on hold entries and
speeds may also be asked.. it all depends on the commander...
All the best
