Dear ********,
Yours sincerely,
For JET AIRWAYS (I) LTD
TEJASHREE KUMAR
looking for basic qualities.. Leadership, presence of mind, power to convince someone and
so on...
hey buddy!!.. i gave my GD close to 2 years ago , so i may not be able to paint an exact
picture for you but i will try..
At the start of the Assessment centre a representative from the HR will come and give a
brief idea of the activities which will happen during the day, everyone will be given tag
numbers and you will be judged or known according to that.. groups of 5 will be formed and
ur group has to interact with another group of 5 during the activities..
There will be 5 topics , which keep on changing.. 2 are based on real life accidents or
incidents and u have to debate.. 2 are " what if " kinda scenes.. u will be given a list of 10
to 12 things and u have to prioritize those things and come to a conclusion with your
group.. 1 in which u will be given scenarios like " you are a commander and you see rubber
pieces on the runway, take action... or you see a CB cloud in front of ur flight path, take
action.. or there is a bomb threat on your frequency , take action....
these were the topics which were there at my time.. they change.. but you should be able
to paint a picture with this..
cheers!! and best of luck
Ace the technical pilot is an excellent book for your interview, covers pretty much
everything. You should know your jeppesen charts inside out as they love to grill you on
this.
When i went for my interview they asked me a lot of basic aerodynamic questions like
explain a stall, and whats a laminar airfoil etc.they can also ask you about Indian climatology
so go through meteorology as well. Also study a bit of performance like TORA,ASDA etc.
The pilots who are sitting in the panel are very friendly and make you feel very comfortable
so that you dont get nervous,
They can also ask you all about CRM questions so prepare for that as well!
Interview:
My interview lasted for about 45 mins. HR questions were: About yourself, Why flying as a
career, why Jet Airways, they asked me about my non-flying job, etc.
Flying related: TORA/TODA/ASDA,etc, Induced Drag, Various methods to reduce induced
drag, Winglets, why 777 don't have winglets but 747's do, RVSM, how flaps work, types of
flaps and how they affect the aerodynamics, types of entries into a hold, V1, V2, etc speeds,
I was given an enroute chart and asked to explain the entire route from Delhi to Lucknow.
In the beginning I was asked which subject I had prepared the best.
I wore a suit with tie. A shirt and tie is well accepted but make sure you were a light
coloured shirt, preferably White. Socks should be the same colour as your trousers,
preferably black.
IPT:
I was given a VECC 01 (Can't remember L or R) VOR/DME chart about half an hour before
the test to go through and asked questions based on the chart.
T/O on auto pilot and once airborne asked to fly a specific heading, then intercept a couple
of outbound radials, then a couple of inbound radials, entry into the hold, 2 holds, and then
as per the published procedure fly outbound and intercept finals for the VOR/DME approach.
Charts will be given, study them inside out. Read the jeppessen manual and know each and
every symbol.
Please practice DME Arcs, ILS/DME approaches, NDB approaches and intercepts, Missed
approach procedures. Just to make sure you know everything.
Medicals:
Hope it helps.
Enroute chart - what projection , why ? why not mercator ? [ duration 30 min]
My ipt was on the 13th -
Profile - Takeoff - climb rwy heading to 4000 , two outbound intercepts , 2 inbound
intercepts , fly on a random heading for some time ( to disorient you) , then come inbound
for a vor dme approach. [duration 30 min]
Arrange for atleast a 4 day stay . Some people had their ipts as much as 5 days after the
interview.
Very basics..
Ahemdabad VOR RWY 23
Maverick10:
Expect some heavy grilling on Jeppesen approach chart, SID, STARS, airport charts and
enroute charts. This is 100% sure that they will cover length and breadth of it.
Study ACE The Technical Pilot in and out. I bet you will not fail the interview. You may take
around a month's time to finish the book. But trust me by the 30th day you will be very
confident with every question that they could possibly ask.
For HR part, prepare a 45sec introduction and a few followup questions like "why do you
want to join Jet airways?", "Who all are there in your family?" etc.
Practise:
Practice all approaches of following airports. Chances are that you will get one of them:
1. VABB
2. VAAH
3. VOMM
4. VECC
5. VIDP
Before the actual IPT starts in the briefing room you will be given time to get accustomed to
the chart you will be using ( approx 10-15 mins)... some questions on hold entries and
speeds may also be asked.. it all depends on the commander...
All the best
