Summative Assessment Video Project Directions

This project will assess the knowledge you have learned for the entirety of Unit 4.

STANDARD 4
Students demonstrate knowledge of physical fitness concepts, principles, and strategies to
improve health and performance.

4.1 Develop a one-week personal physical fitness plan specifying the proper warm-up and cool-
down
activities
4.2 Identify physical activities that are effective in improving each of the health-related physical
fitness
components.
4.3 Match personal preferences in physical activities with each of the five components of
health-related
physical fitness.
4.4 Explain the effects of physical activity on heart rate during exercise, during the recovery
phase, and
while to body is at rest.
4.5 Describe the role of physical activity and nutrition in achieving physical fitness.
4.6 Identify and apply the principles of overload in safe, age-appropriate activities.
4.7 Explain progression, overload, and specificity as principles of exercise.

For this project you will be collaborating with your peers to make a video demonstrating a seven-
day physical fitness plan. You will work in groups of 3-4. For this project you will use the website
Animoto. Animoto is a free website that allows you to upload videos for creative projects.

Access to Animoto: Go to the Animoto website. Choose one member of the group’s email
address to use as a log-in name and create a password. Each member of the group should write
down the log-in name and the password so everyone can access the video project.

Next, choose a template or select “start from scratch.” You can then choose the layout as well as
design scheme for your video. Choose a layout and design that is appropriate for a physical
fitness video (ex: not a background with pictures of hamburgers). By clicking on the media tab,
you can drag your uploaded video files and arrange them in the correct order. You can add audio
clips of music, but make sure we can still hear the speaker in the video. Text can also be placed in
to add subtitles.

Videos: The video you make will demonstrate a seven-day physical fitness plan that includes
proper warm up and cool down activities. Each member of the group must demonstrate at least
one day of workouts. Each day must include one warm up activity, one exercise, and one cool
down activity. Perform a demonstration of each activity.
After you have demonstrated the activity, explain which component of health-related fitness it
improves (ex: muscular strength).

Select one activity to demonstrate the effects of physical activity on heart rate during exercise.
Have the group member who is demonstrating the activity measure their heart rate before,
during, and after.

Next, you will demonstrate your knowledge of the role in nutrition in achieving physical fitness.
You may have a speaker in the video suggest healthy foods that should be eaten after physical
activity or make a word document listing healthy foods that you present as a slide in the video.
Include an example of a breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Lastly, have a speaker explain the acronym FITT (frequency, intensity, time, type). Explain why
one portion of the acronym is important in improving physical fitness. (ex: Frequency is
important if you want to improve …)

Videos should be no less than 10 minutes, and no longer than 20 minutes. You may choose to
film one video that covers the entirety of the project, or you may film several short clips and
combine them using Animoto.

When completed, videos should be saved and emailed to me at hollyvarela@csu.fullerton.edu by

the specified due date. Late videos will not be accepted except in the case of an emergency in
which you notify me in advance.
