Topic : International travel has many advantages to the travellers and the country visited.

Do you think advantages outweigh disadvantages ?

It's true that an increase in international travel has resulted in many benefits to both
travellers and the hosting countries. However, there are certain negative effects associated
with it. Taking little precautions, I believe that international travel is more beneficial.

On the one hand, travelling to another country has a lot of benefits. Firstly, it is the
most easy and efficient way to learn about any country, although with technological
enhancements, you can have world at your finger tips, but visiting the national museum will
help in easily understanding countries history and its journey thorough different periods.
Secondly, travelling is a great way to learn new cultures, as it gives an opportunity to
interact with people who are following it, for example, to know about Buddhism going to a
monastery in Tibet and talking to a monk gives a better understanding on the religion than
going through tons of books. International travel not just benefit the traveller but also the
hosting country as it provides a great boost to the country economy by adding revenue
which also results in more jobs in hospitality and travelling sectors.

On the other hand, it's undeniable as well that international travel has certain
disadvantages associated with it. Mainly, there is an increasing using of tourist visa as a
means of illegal immigration. Nowadays, a lot of people are travelling to other countries as a
tourist and are settling illegally. The government should take a proactive role in doing a
background check while issuing Visa and shall impose hefty fines on the travel agents who
are misusing it.

In conclusion, as discussed above there are great benefits associated with

international travel. Although there are certain disadvantages, taking certain precautionary
measures, I think that benefits outweigh drawbacks.
Topic : Out of countries budget, a large portion should be diverted from treatment to
spending on health and preventive measures. To what extent do you agree or disagree

In recent years, many developed and developing countries have increased their
budget allocation in improving health and standard of living of its citizens. While there is a
lot of debate on the allocation of money to treatment and preventive measures, biasing
towards any one of them may not result in the desired output. In my opinion, the allocation
of health budget shall be based on the country's literacy and population growth rate and
shall be varied as the country progress forward.

On the one hand, citizens of third world countries are facing severe health-related
issues which have to be addressed on an urgent basis, for example, many central African
countries are facing crisis related to curable diseases like Chickenpox and Polio. In these
situations, moving a large portion of the budget towards educating people on the
preventive measure will not be able to provide a solution in controlling the death rate,
rather using all health budget in treating children will be beneficial.

Whereas on the other hand, in the developing countries particularly where the
population explosion is happening at an alarming rate, continuing with allocating the budget
money to treatment is not a viable solution on a long run, for example in India where the
population already touched eight digit mark, neglection of educating people on the
improvement of health and prevention of diseases resulted in no improvement in the health
of citizens although there is an increasing fund allocation is happening towards health
charter. In such cases, allocating a right portion of funds towards preventive measure seems
the right way, however, proper care should be taken while making a change in the allocation
of funds to have minimum impact on addressing the treatment requirements.

To conclude, diversion of the budget shall be done based on case to case basis
studying the countries demographics and literacy rate. Due to the reasons mentioned
above, I am of the opinion that diversion of the budget shall be more beneficial in countries
where the population is more and no large fund requirement in addressing the immediate
treatment needs
Topic : Nowadays, university education is very expensive. Some people say that
universities should reduce their fees, especially for the less fortunate students or those
coming from rural areas. To what extent do you agree or disagree.

In recent times, tertiary education became very costly all throughout the world.
Although, there is a divided opinion among people about reducing the fees for students
coming from low-income group. I finally believe that university education should be
affordable, either by lowering the fees or by providing education loans.

Nowadays, the job market is so competitive that without a university degree, it is

almost impossible to get a decent job. On the one hand, many people believe that every
citizen, whether from the low or high-income group should have an affordable university
education. As education is becoming costly every year and becoming a financial burden to
the students, particularly who are from rural and low-income group resulting in dropping
from college and forcing them to look for jobs to meet daily needs

On the other hand, there is a strong argument by many saying that reduction in fees
has a profound impact on the quality of education. It is well known that by reducing the
fees, the university is lacking a significant income resource which can help in purchasing
advanced experimental equipment or books which can help students to excel in their
studies. Instead of reducing the fees, the Government can provide financial assistance to
students to low-income students by providing education loans at a minimal interest rate so
that he/she can repay the loan upon joining the job.

All in all, I agree that university education should be affordable, however, this shall
not be achieved by reducing the fees which can compromise the quality of education, rather
better alternatives like low-interest loans shall be a way of easing out the financial burden
on the students
One of your penfriends wants to improve his/her English in advance of moving to Sydney

Write a letter to your penfriend. Advise him/her about the following : listening skills,
speaking skills and vocabulary.

Dear Mohan,

Thanks for writing to me. You must be really excited about moving to Sydney. How are all
preparations going ? In your mail you asked about how to improve your English language
before you leave. Well, I've given it some thought and here are few ideas.

Speaking is probably the most useful skill that you will be needing. The best way to improve
would be by starting talking with your friends in English as much as possible. If time permits,
try to do a short and intensive oral course before you leave.

As for your listening skills, I'd suggest you to tune into any podcast or English programmes
or movies whenever you can. Also, don't forget that lot of Australian websites contains
audio that you can listen to and can get used to native speakers accent.

Browsing the internet will also help extend you vocabulary, but you ought to read books and
magazines as well. You'd need a good English-English language dictionary, not a bilingual
one, try to use the new words in your daily conversations; however, you should not over use
it

Should you need any more advice, please don't hesitate to drop me a line.

Best regards,

Jeevan
You are planning a holiday to Australia. You have been given the name and address of a
hotel in the centre of Sydney and would like information.

Write a letter to the hotel. Ask about availability of the rooms and the hotel's facilities. Find
out if the hotel arranges day trips and ask them to send you a brochure.

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to enquire about staying in your hotel, as I am planning a trip to Sydney next
month.

First of all, I would like to know if it would be possible to book a double room for 7 days
from 7th to 20th. Also, we would like to stay in a room having a view of Sydney Harbour so
could you let me know whether there are any rooms available?

Secondly, I would be grateful if you could send me details of hotel facilities. I am more
interested in knowing whether there are any outdoor activities available, is there any
swimming pool ?, are there any tennis courts ?

Lastly, I would also like to know whether if you arrange any day trips to sightseeing places in
Sydney. Do you have any trips available to Opera house or to mountains ? and how much
does it cost per person. Can you send me any brochure of your hotel having location and
fare details so that I can plan in advance.

Yours sincerely,

Jeevan.
Both Governments and individuals are spending vast amount of money protecting animals
and their habitats. This money could be better spend dealing with fundamental issues in
society such as poverty and healthcare.

To what extent do you agree or disagree ?

Discussion / Opinion question

It is true that there is an increasing amount of money being spent towards animal
protection in the recent times. While animal extinction is a real problem and requires
financial assistance, it is also important to consider the allocation of tax payers money in
addressing societies fundamental problems. In this essay, I will be discussing both views and
explain my support to later view.

On the one hand, those who support the government spending towards animal protection
argue that the animal species are getting extinct mainly due to human activities and hence
have primary responsibility in resolving it. For example, increasing amount of elephants are
being poached in the Asian region for their tusk, which amount for lot of money in the black
market. The regional government financial assistance in increasing forest protection force is
playing a key role in mitigating to certain extent. To the contrast, if the government doesn't
provide the required assistance, there will be a severe imbalance in the ecosystem due to
reduced animal population.

On the other hand, I firmly support the allocation of money shall be driven more towards
the basic human needs like eradicating poverty and providing health care to all. Insufficient
financial assistance in a way leading youth to go towards illegal activities, one of them is
poaching of animals. For an instance, recent studies by the news agency suggest that
increase in animal mortality is primarily associated with increase in poverty in the tribal
areas where the people are not able to find any other means of meeting family needs. In
contrary, if the tribals are supported financially then there would be lesser tendency of
people towards animal poaching

In conclusion, although animal extinction is a serious problem and requires financial

assistance, I firmly believe that addressing the basic human needs are very important and
this in turn can reduce the animal extinction problem to certain extent.
Some people think that killing animals for food is cruel, but others claim that animals are
necessary part of the diet. What is your opinion ?

Discussion / Opinion

In recent years, animal welfare and protection gained importance than never before among
public. While some argue that animal derived proteins are required for healthy lifestyle.
Others are of view that treating animals as a food source and killing them is wrong, other. In
this essay, I will be discussing both these views and extend my support to the later view.

There has always been divided opinion related to consideration of animals as food source.
While some believe that treating the animals as food for the mankind and killing them is
cruel. Others argue that animal meat is necessary for balanced diet. In this essay, I will
discussing both these views and extend my agreement to the former view.
Some people believe that educating children altogether will benefit them. Others think
intelligent children should be taught separately and given special courses. Discuss those two
views

Discussion

There is no doubt that education for child is absolutely necessary. While some are of view
that the children with high intelligence should have classes separately, others are of opinion
that education should happen among more diversified environment. In this essay, I will
discuss both sides of the argument

In recent years, children education has been given more importance by the general public.
While some think that pooling together intelligent children and educating them with special
courses is beneficial. Others view that children require to learn among more diversified
environment. In this essay, I will discuss both views.
A disadvantage of prisons is their arguably luxurious conditions. For example, inmates are
given televisions to watch, video games to play, and expensive sports facilities to use. This is
a problem because it does nothing to deter the criminals from committing crimes once they
are released. Furthermore, this pleasant environment requires a great amount of money to
be maintained. As a consequence the taxpayer, whose taxes pay for the upkeep of these
prisons, is left out of pocket in order to keep prisoners entertained in their cells

One reason sports stars deserve high salaries is due to the fact that they set good examples
for children. This is because they show children that, if they believe in themselves, they can
achieve anything. If top athletes didn't encourage this idea, then the children would lose out
on a role model. This is why successful sports professionals should earn money than other
professionals.

Sending all criminals to prison would be a terrible idea

Why?

This is because purpose of prison is to deter the criminal from wrong doings, but some types
of crimes can be deterred with less expensive and more productive measures

What kind of criminals shouldn't go to prison ?

For example, those who commit petty crimes like pickpocketing, shoplifting and speeding
can be punished by giving community service or paying a fine. By doing so, they would
contribute more to the society

What would happen if all criminals went to prison ?

In contrast, if every crime was sentenced with prison time, prisons would be full and law-
abiding citizens would be faced with a huge tax burden, and the criminals themselves would
learn nothing about their crimes.

Conflict between parents and their children is necessary because it helps the latter to
develop

Why?

One of the main responsibility of parents is to make the children learn about the harsh
realities of the society they are living in, and sometimes this leads to conflicts between
parents and their children. Nevertheless, this is important for the children's future.

What kind of Conflicts?

For example, children in their adolescence who gets attracted towards flashy
advertisements and cry to get latest technological gadgets to show off in front of their
friends need to be grounded. By doing so, children will realize their misconceptions and help
them becoming responsible.

What would happen if conflicts doesnt happen?

In contrast, if parents don't punish their children in case of wrong doings will make them
undisciplined leading them to have a spoiled future

Dropping foreign language from school curriculums would be unnecessary and

shortsighted

Why?

The essence of the language is to establish a proper communication between people. But in
today's world there are different cultures and languages, learning a foreign language will not
only help in easing out the communication but also gives a glimpse into other cultures.

What kind of languages?

For example, recently in India where there are different languages and cultural diversities in
different states, the government took an initiative to include other state language as a part
of curriculum, doing so the government was able to maintain unity among diversity.

What would happen if foreign languages are removed?

In contrast, if schools drops foreign language from the curriculum this gives no chance for
children to understand other cultures and they may grow to be racially biased.

One of the advantages of moving abroad is that it enables people to broaden their
horizons

Why?

This is because

What kind of languages?

For example,.

What would happen if foreign languages are removed?

In contrast.

However, I believe the arts should only be funded to an extent, because there needs to be
enough money to support public services.

While it is important for university students to receive financial assistance, I believe their
family background should be taken into account. This is because....
Although I am mostly against taxing unhealthy foods, I believe an exception should be made
for foods which contain harmful chemicals. The reason for this is ...

I believe the government should offer financial incentives to the public for recycling, but
only in some cases. To clarify, ....
You recently went on a holiday with your family to an island resort. Upon your return home,

Dear Sir or Madam,

Last week along with my family we visited your resort and had a wonderful vacation time.
We loved your hospitality, in particular our kids enjoyed food and water sports that you
offered.

Unfortunately, after getting back, I found my laptop is missing and I think I forgot it in our
room which is 'Suite-602', and so I am writing to ask you to ship it back to me.

The laptop is a 14 inch black Lenovo think pad with logo mentioned on the cover, also it has
my company initials 'WME' engrossed in red colour on the back side of the screen. It would
be easy to identify.

I am a structural engineer, although I am on vacation I need to work on some designs which

need to be submitted to the client. I didnt upload the information on cloud, hence it is very
important for me to have my laptop back.

Could you please ship to me by express mail ? I will immediately transfer the expenses
involved to a bank in your area once, you confirm me that you have the laptop and send it.
Kindly send me the banking details or if you have any preferred mode of payment.

I appreciate your assistance in this matter.

Yours sincerely, 32 41 St - Dubai

Jeevan
It is of prime importance to me to get my laptop back, as it contains confidential information
related to my work place, and contains crucial information which is required to be
presented before my manager in the coming week.

During my visit, I interacted with our room keeper named Andrew and upon a friendly chat
realized that he is from the same town as me and travels here on a weekly basis. As holidays
are nearby and most of the courier services will be delaying their services, I would be
grateful if he can bring my laptop to my place during his weekly visit. I believe it would ok
with him.

Thanks in advance for understanding and providing assistance. Hoping for a positive
response.

Yours sincerely,

Jeevan.
