Celebrations, Connections, & Challenges
by Dr. Lyn Mueller Traditionally our Curriculum Night in January features a particular schoolwide focus. In recent years, we featured our Special Area classes. Last year, we had a CFI Family International Night. This January, we would like to have a Career Night featuring the occupations and hobbies of our families. As we did with the International Night, we’d like to use our Share Fair format and invite parents and grandparents to host a small table display and be willing to speak to families as they visit from table to table. In fact, we’re hoping that we have so many people willing to share, that we might need to have two people per table and set up tables in all areas of the school. If you are willing to talk about your occupation or hobby in this informal setting, please let me know so that we can begin compiling a list. This Curriculum Night will be Thursday, Jan. 27th from 6:30 to 7:30.

THOUGHT For The WEEK: We are well aware of water.

Proposed School Attendance Lines
In response to the continued tremendous growth in Richland Two, we are building new schools to help decrease overcrowding. The construction for these schools is funded by the 2008 bond referendum. For the 2011-2012 school year, two new schools will open; elementary 18, located on Old National Road, and middle school seven, located on Muller Road. The opening of these schools will result in some changes to attendance lines at the elementary and middle school levels. Proposed changes to the attendance lines to accommodate these two new schools will be presented as information to the Richland Two Board of Trustees on Tuesday, Nov. 9. The Board is tentatively scheduled to vote on the lines at its regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 7. We strongly encourage parents to attend the meeting to learn more about the proposed changes. The proposed lines and a list of all schools impacted by the proposed changes will be posted Friday, Nov. 5 on the district's website www.richland2.org. Additionally, maps of the proposed attendance lines will be displayed in all impacted schools and at the District Office. The public session of the Nov. 9 board meeting begins at 7 p.m. at Polo Road Elementary School, 1250 Polo Road. The public session of the Dec. 7 board meeting begins at 7 p.m. at the District Auditorium, 7500 Brookfield Road. The public is always welcomed and encouraged to attend board meetings. For a complete list of meetings, visit the Board of Trustees page on the district's website.
