NATIONAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY WEEK CELEBRATION ACTIVITIES SY 2019-2020


Theme: “Science for the People: Enabling Technologies for Sustainable Development”
JULY 15-18, 2019

A. ESSAY WRITING CONTEST


Objectives:
a. To encourage creativity and scientific comprehension through writing;
b. To bring about the ability to think quickly, write persuasively and present well-connected ideas about
timely issues in relation to science and technology.

Date and Time: July 17, 2019 (9:am)


Venue: Shed (front of Botanical Garden)
Facilitator: Angeli A. Rivera

Mechanics:
1. Only 1 participant per section.
2. Yellow paper and black ballpoint pen will be used during the event.
3. All entries must be written in English and must have at least 250 words and must not exceed 300
words.
4. The theme of the contest shall be: ““Science for the People: Enabling Technologies for Sustainable
Development”
5. All essays must be original and participants will be given 1 hour and 30 minutes to write.
6. There will be three winners to be declared: 1st place, 2nd place and 3rd place, respectively.

Criteria for Judging:


1. Relevance to the theme - 45%
2. Originality - 25%
3. Structure - 15%
4. Style - 15%

B. POSTER MAKING CONTEST


Objectives:
a. To show off artistic talents of students with an in-depth interpretation of the theme through their
skills in drawing.
b. To instill among the students the significance of the various contributions in Science and
Technology.

Date and Time: July 16, 2019 (9:30-11:30 AM)


Venue: Covered Court
Facilitator: LOIENDALOU M. ANSUGAN
Mechanics:
1. Only 1 participant per section.
2. Participants must prepare the following materials ONLY: 1/4 illustration board, pencil, eraser,
crayons and/or oil pastel, colored pen/pencil. Note: Permanent markers are NOT allowed during
the event.
3. Artwork must be in LANSCAPE layout.
4. The theme of the contest shall be: “Science for the People: Enabling Technologies for
Sustainable Development”
5. All artwork must be original and participants will be given 1 hour to accomplish their artworks.
6. There will be three winners to be declared: 1st place, 2nd place and 3rd place, respectively.

Criteria for Judging:


1. Originality, Style and Creativity - 40%
2. Interpretation & Relevance to the theme - 40%
3. Presentation and Neatness - 20%

C. SCI-TECH QUIZ SHOW


Objectives:
A. To encourage and develop the knowledge and skills of the students about Science and Technology.
B. To encourage independent study and academic excellence.
C. To build self-esteem, courage and self-confidence to achieve positive aspects.

Date and Time: July 18, 2019 (9:00 AM)


Venue: Covered Court
Facilitator: Earlie Theresa I. Derro

Mechanics:
1. The contest is open to all Grade level and there will be one participant per section.
2. The contest will have two phases: The Elimination Round and the Final Round. For the elimination
round, all gradelevel participants will undergo a 15-questions, multiple choice quiz. The participants who
will be ranked 1st to 9th by the end of the elimination round will be the ones to proceed in the Final
Round. For the Final Round, the remaining 9 participants will race for the number 1 slot by answering
identification-type questions. The first participant to reach the number 1 slot will be declared the winner
of the contest.
3. The contest questions will be based on general information about Science and Technology.

D. MODA 2019 (From Trash to Fash)


Objectives:
a. To develop students creativity and collaboration skills by crafting creation/outfit using materials from
trash.
b. To enable students appreciate the beauty of 3R’s and its application to fashion industry.

Date and Time: July 18, 2019 (1:00 PM)


Venue: Covered Court
Facilitator: Jethro A. Odoy
Mechanics:

1. There shall only be 1 entry (creation) per section.


2. Each section will be given freedom to choose 1 model (male or female) to showcase their creation.
3. All students in the class are encouraged to collaborate and work together to come up with the best creatively
crafted costume.
4. The use of recyclable and indigenous materials must be strictly observed.
5. Costumes/outfits that are too revealing are strongly prohibited.
6. Each section must choose 1 head designer to present the creation during the fashion show using the attached
guidelines.

Criteria:

1. Visual Impact (20%)


This is the first impression made from looking at your garment. Is it a cohesive piece? Does it look planned out or
were the items simply stuck to the outfit? Were your design choices intentional? Do the colors and materials
work together? Is there a “wow factor”?
2. Design Concept (20%)
Does your design have a concept behind it? Is there some sort of pattern, texture or intent within the design? Is it
obvious what you were going for? What is the idea or plan behind the design? Is there a focal point? How well do
the accessories go with the piece? This step may take some research and development time.
3. Construction Technique (20%)
Is your outfit securely fastened? Will it fall apart tomorrow? Did you manipulate your materials in any way (ie.
Cutting shapes, making patterns, weaving)? How is your garment held together (ie. Glue, staples, tape, cord,
interlocking)? Does it carry the weight of materials used?
4. Creativity (20%)
How original is your outfit? How did you make it your own? What was your inspiration? Was your concept
executed well? Does your design look intentional?
5. Best Use of Materials (20%)
Were the materials reused, recycled or found - not bought? Does the type of material used fl ow with the style of
outfit? Is the material too heavy for your outfit? Is the design enhanced because of your material?
