Terrorism

Terrorism is a broader term and it does not have a single definition as described by the

Counter-Terrorism Executive Directorate (CTED) of United Nations in one of its answers to the

frequently asked questions regarding the exact definition of terrorism ("Frequently asked

questions about UN efforts to combat terrorism", 2019). The Organization for Economic

Cooperation and Development (OECD) countries defines the terrorism and act of terrorism in

different ways ("Definition of Terrorism by Country in OECD Countries", 2019).

One famous definition of Terrorism is “the haphazard violence used intentionally to

terrorize the masses and also to achieve some goals or aims i.e. political or religious”

("Terrorism", 2019). Terrorism has been defined in 109 different ways; terrorism also plays a

very vital role in politics as once said by Michael Walzer in 2002 that the terrorism is killing of

people (innocent people) randomly to fear the whole population and make the hands of its

political leaders strong (Mackey, 2009). The one official form of terrorism is “State Terrorism”,

it is the form of terrorism which is done by a state against the international threats or targets and

also sometime against its own citizens, the best example of state terrorism is the bombing of

Guernica ("State terrorism", 2019).

How would you End Terrorism?

There are several ways via which we can stop terrorism or decrease the rate of terrorism

upto the least level. We will discuss different methods of how to end terrorism below:

Improving Border Controls:

The best way to control the acts of terrorism is to strengthen your borders so that no one

can enter to the territory of your country illegally. Impose heavy fines and strict punishments for

those entering the borders without any legal status. For this it is necessary to have online

registration of all the citizens and foreigners entering the country, so that one can easily be

identified if something haphazard happens. The best example of this type of improving border

controls is of European Union (EU) new entry and exit registration system approved by the

parliament and will be operational from the year 2020 ("How to stop terrorism: EU measures

Reduce the Terrorist/Terrorism Financing:

This is the most effective way of ending terrorism. Terrorist do need money and

excessive money to operate the acts of terrorism in various countries. The effective way to track

down terrorists is to track their financing. Measures had to be taken to make it possible that all

the transactions must be done on banking channels, which will help governments to gather all the

possible data regarding its citizens and foreign citizens within the country ("How to stop

Degrade/Decrease the access of terrorists to dangerous weapons:

The government must have to take all the necessary actions to cut-off the means vide

which the terrorist groups had access to the deadly weapons (Gurski, 2018). The government

must have strong and strict policies for the sellers and buyers of explosive items. Many terrorist

groups use the homemade bombs in terrorist attacks; this can be ended only if the government

had strong policy for the sellers of the ingredients which are used in the making of these bombs.

Cyber Security:

The easy way to spread terrorism is the social media, where only on one click you can

spread your message to the whole of masses, to prevent terrorism the social websites like

Facebook and YouTube etc must increase the cyber security of its websites and do not allow

such content to be posted on their websites ("How to stop terrorism: EU measures explained

(infographic) | News | European Parliament", 2018).

Conclusion

Terrorism can only be ended or decreased if the government of the country take strict

actions and make strict policies in its parliament to reduce the act of terrorism. The most

effective way is to cut-off the financing of terrorists because without money sources no one is

able to operate its terrorist activities, as money is main ingredient in any kind of action which

relates to terrorist activities. The other important option to end terrorism is to improve the border

security, so that no one can enter into the country illegally. The best example of increasing

border security is the step of Pakistan to make the wall on the Pakistan and Afghanistan border.
