She will become the first female to serve as Mayor of Converse

CONVERSE, TEXAS: On Monday, July 22, Councilwoman and former EDC Director Kate Silvas
submitted her name for consideration on the November ballot. If elected, she would be the first
female to serve as Mayor of Converse. Silvas was elected as Councilwoman, Place 4 by the voters
in November 2018. Silvas is the first and only former staff member to serve on City Council.

“I am submitting my name for consideration by the voters because I have seen first-hand the
inner workings of our local government and I know the needs of our residents are not currently
being addressed. My experiences and the relationships I have built for nearly thirty years will be
very valuable to addressing the needs of our community.”

Silvas worked on the attraction of Caterpillar to Seguin, Texas and the redevelopment of Kelly
Air Force Base, now Port San Antonio. Her career also includes municipal finance and budgeting
for the City of San Antonio. She holds a Master’s Degree in Urban Administration and a
Bachelor’s Degree in Communication from Trinity University in San Antonio.

“Kate was an integral part of the team that managed the complex redevelopment of Kelly Air
Force Base,” said Mark Frye, a nationally-recognized consultant in military base closure and
realignment. “Not only did she play a key role in the transition of the installation, she worked
tirelessly on supporting an economic development conveyance that ultimately saved the
taxpayers more than $103 million.”

“I fully expect the next several months to be committed to listening and engaging the public so
that I will be even more prepared to give my best to the community that I love,” said Silvas.
