NEW VISIO STENCILS 2013

This document will show you how to use them in your network diagram.

The new Microsoft Visio Stencils include all new:

 Connection Points
 Scaling to proportion
 Snap into place Chassis, Rack Mounts and Modules
 19in 42U rack to use with B&B Electronics Chassis and rack mount brackets
 3x Rack mount bracket for AccessEtherLinX/4, McBasics and iMediaChassis /3
 Click and drag connector tool to add shapes

To demonstrate the new icons start with a new file.

 Save your .vss file in MyDocs\My Shapes Folder. If you have Windows 7
it will be under Libraries\documents\My Shapes.

 Open Visio and press “File” then select “New Drawing (US) or (Metric)”
 Click “File” then select “Shapes” then “Open Stencil”
 Open your .vss Stencils (Depending on where you saved your .vss
stencils) MyDocs\My Shapes.
 With your new file open on a blank page, drag and drop in the 42U rack.
You will notice it has two Green Squares on the bottom of the 42U Rack.
These allow you to scale the 42U Rack to your size. Drag one of the
Green Square connectors left or right to scale. Each Rack, Rack Mount,
Module and Chassis have this feature. The Blue (X)s on the sides of Rack
are for placing Chassis or Racks Mounts into place.

Drag a Chassis or Rack Mount bracket on top of the 42U rack.

Note: Always drag a chassis on the page 1st before you put any modules. If you put a module 1st
the chassis will be on top and the module behind the chassis. Anything you drag onto the page 1st
will always be behind the next object you place.

 You’ll notice that a Chassis or Rack has the same Green Squares as the Rack does. These
are your connection points so they will snap into place on the rack. These are also used
for scaling your stencil to the size you want.
 Drag a Chassis or Rack Mount right on top of the Rack. It should snap in perfectly. Notice
the Red Squares. When both sides show them the Chassis or Rack is connected. If you
resized the 42U Rack you will have to use the Green Squares to scale the Chassis or Rack
Mount to size.
 Drag one of the Green Squares to a Blue (X) on the Rack to snap into place. You’ll see a
Red Square outline letting you know that it’s in place and now connected.
 Do the same to the other side.

Inserting IMC Networks Modules into chassis.

Now that you have your 42U Rack and Chassis or Rack Mount it’s time to add in your IMC Network
modules.

 Select and drag a module into the chassis. Module should fit perfectly unless you resized the
chassis. If you resized the chassis use the Green Squares to resize the module to fit.

 All modules have the same green square for the scaling and snapping into place feature as
the Chassis and Rack Mounts do.
 Drag the left Green Square point of the module to a Blue(X) on the top part of the Chassis.
 Drag the right Green Square point of the module to a Blue(X) on the bottom part of the
Chassis.

 You’re all done. You can now add connection lines to any of the ports using the connection
tool.

Another cool feature on how to add Chassis, Rack Mounts and

Modules.
Visio has a cool feature where you can click on the “Connector tool” , and then select a stencil from
your list, but don’t drag your stencil on the page. Just click and drag your shape on to the page.

Click a connection point or anywhere on the page
