Project Title: Effects of Hydrogen Peroxide on the Dormancy Period of Field –

Grown Granola Potatoes (Solanum tuberosum L.)

Statement of the Problem

The study seeks to determine the effectiveness of Hydrogen peroxide on

dormancy period of field grown Granola potatoes. Specifically, it sought to answer the

following questions;

1. How does Hydrogen peroxide affect the field-grown Granola potatoes in terms

of the following factors:

1.1 Disease damage;

1.2 Maturity;

1.3 Second growth; and

1.4 Sprouting?

2. Which milliMolar concentration of Hydrogen peroxide will result to the shortest

dormancy period?

3. Is there any significant difference in growth and sprouting of Granola Potatoes

between the dark and light storage treatments?


Statement of the Hypothesis

HO: There is no significant difference on the dormancy period and sprouting of field-

grown Granola potatoes (Solanum tuberosum L.) soaked in different milliMolar

concentrations (20mM, 40mM, 60mM, and 80mM) under the dark room and light room

storage.

Methods and Procedures

Research Design

Through the use of Research design, the researchers establish an overall plan for obtaining

answer to research problems. This study uses Complete Randomized Design. This kind of

research design is extensively used for agricultural experiments in which the treatments are

assigned randomly so that each experimental unit has the same chance of receiving any one

treatment. Using Completely Randomize Design, the G0 potato were treated with two

treatments comprising snap solution, Hydrogen peroxide, and control (water). Through

Completely Randomize Design the researchers are able to gain the necessary insight to develop

new ideas, concepts and theories regarding a problem under review. It will give an accurate

data, precise interpretation and proper data analysis.

Research Locale

The study will be conducted in the Northern Mindanao Agricultural Crops and

Livestock Research Complex in Dalwangan, Malaybalay City. The NMACLRC plays a

very important role in Agriculture Sector in Region X as it innovate ideas with regards

of the farming system, produce technologies for crops. The NMACLRC was
established in the year 1991 through administrative order 6 and 19. The study will be

conducted in the first semester of the school year 2019-2020.

Data Collection Method

Harvesting the G0 Field Grown Tuber (Granola Potatoes). The field grown potato

tuber will be obtained from a season crop in Dalwangan, Malaybalay City. This

experiment is carried out at Northern Mindanao Integrated Agriculture Research

Center on May 29, 2019.

Thorough Picking of the Potato Tuber. Twenty-four healthy potato tubers of same

sizes (50mm) will be picked and prepared personally by the researchers.

Rinsing of Potato Samples. Potato tubers will be rinsed using the distilled water

immediately after harvesting to remove soil and for decontamination purposes.

Soaking the Field - Grown Potatoes (G0 Granola potatoes) on 600mL Hydrogen

Peroxide(6%), water(600mL), and Snap Solution A and B(0.6mL) with

Water(599.4mL). The 108 Micro tuber will be soaked on a Hydrogen peroxide,

water(control) and snap solution with the total measurement of 600mL for 2 hours in

the laboratory on a temperature of 24°C.

Drying of Field-Grown Potatoes. After being soaked, potato tubers will then be dried

in a close room and will be labeled based on the treatments used.


Storing the Field-Grown Potatoes. The field - grown potatoes will be randomly

placed in the storage and will be carefully observed for the gathering of data to

anticipate the effects of hydrogen peroxide, and snap solution on the sprouting period

of the field-grown potatoes.

Comparing the Growth of Field-Grown Potatoes in Snap Solution, Hydrogen

Peroxide and water. The data gathered will be evaluated and the results of the

treatments in the storage will be compared until the sprouting period.

Observation of the length and diameter of the sprout of Field-Grown Potatoes.

The researcher would then measure the length and the diameter of the sprout.

Gathering of the Data. The data of all the 108 G0 potatoes upon the effects of

hydrogen peroxide and snap solution on the Granola Field-Grown potatoes will be

analyzed and examined by the researchers.

Data Analysis Procedure

Each test will be performed according to concentration of hydrogen peroxide

and Snap Solution. The Complete Randomized Design will be subjected to PROC

GLM in Statistical Analysis Software (SAS). The data will be analyzed with the regards

of the research design used. The data will be analyzed by one way analysis of variance

(ANOVA) to determine if there are any significant differences among the concentration

of hydrogen peroxide and the snap solution.
