1. About Imagine to Innovate
Imagine to Innovate are a team of aspiring engineers from
different companies which has been instrumental in promoting
motor sports events and ushering a new era of engineers, where
they will know, what practicality in technical world stands for.
The Imagine to Innovate will act as a launch-pad to accord the
seamless endurance of engineers and their prolific inputs. We will
craft a world, where knowledge and wisdom in engineering
domain will lead to imagination and innovation.

Much to the emergence of engineers in India in the last decades,


the indispensability of this troupe has somewhat been whacked.
Primarily, our competency will include giving birth to an
atmosphere, where engineers do not feel their job as a livelihood,
but a way to live life. A bridging gap is what, we will mend
between the ideas and prospects of an engineer, who has no
dearth of enthusiasm and zeal the Imagine to Innovate pledge to
work for the engineers, and to give the much-needed impetus,
which can make them operate without being asymptotic about the
obstacles.

We deliver interactive training & workshops which equip its


participants with better practical understanding and preparation
for jobs in industry. The hands-on sessions and lectures are
designed based on current industry trends and draw on the rich
experience of instructors and organizers. We focus on Automobile
Designing, Innovations, Solar Energy, Solar car, Electric Bikes,
Vehicle Dynamics, Automobile Mechanics, Aerodynamic
designing, Flow simulation, fluid simulation, Optimization of
Designing, Project and many more.

2. About Asia E-bike challenge (AEBC)
This competition is an eco-friendly venture based upon
Engineering design and manufacturing of Electric bike
completely by the students. The main aim of the event is to
generate the interest of the student in the field of eco-bikes and to
bring a new revolution in the field of biking which can be
commercialized as a usable product for the future generation.
Beside the comprehensive knowledge of manufacturing and
fabricating a single seated DC motor driven vehicle to manoeuvre
on all types of terrains the E-bike Racing Challenge has a chance
for participants to win cash prize up to 3.0 Lakhs and Trophies.
This will help them face real-world engineering design projects
and other related challenges. Our focus to develop interest among
the engineering student towards alternative power sources, those
which are the future of Automobiles. This can enhance their
practical skills as well as learn team management, so our
engineering student will avail to face any hurdles in the way of
real engineering.
The Purpose of all historic motorcycle racing is to provide an
appropriate environment for, and to show case competition
among, classic and certain special interest clubman and grand
prix racing motorcycles.
Our main aim is to look over the eco-friendly automobiles
vehicles which will be the need of the future generation.

3.1. Rules Authority


There are several rules, regulations and restrictions which are to
be followed by all participating teams. Organizing Committee is
having right to impound each and every rule associated with the

event. Violation by anyone of the participating member or team
may be liable to be penalized severely, inclusive of and up to
debarring of the team from the competition at any stage or
withdrawal of award/awards, as well. Ambiguities or questions
concerning the meaning or intend of these rules will be resolved
by I2I organizing committee during competition onsite.

3.2. Rules Validity


The rules will be same throughout the event. However,
amendments (if any) will be made known to all the participating
teams.

3.3. Rules Compliance


By registering for this event, the team members of the team as
individuals, faculty advisors and other personnel of the
college/university agree to comply with and will be bounded by
these rules, interpretations or procedures issued or announced by
ASIAN E-BIKE CHALLENGE 2018. All team members, faculty
advisors and other university representatives are required to
cooperate with, and follow all instructions, penalties and results
from competition organizers, officials and judges. Disputes if any
are subject to Indore jurisdiction only.

3.4. Loopholes
It is virtually impossible for a set of rules to be so comprehensive
that it covers all possible questions about the vehicle’s design
parameters or the conduct of the competition. Please keep in
mind that the safety remains of paramount importance during

I2I, so any perceived loopholes should have resolved in the
direction of increased safety/concept of the competition.

3.5. Participating in the competition


Teams, team members as individuals, faculty advisors and other
representatives of a registered college/university who are present
on-site at the competition are considered to be “participating in
the competition” from the time they arrive at the event site until
they depart the site at the conclusion of the competition or any act
which shows their non-participation or earlier by withdrawing.
Failure to submit any of the required documents (virtual round
documents, FDR and TI sheet) within 3 days of the deadline will
constitute an automatic withdrawal of your team. On 4th day
your team registration will be cancelled and in no any
circumstances refund adjustment in cash or kind cannot be done.
Teams which do not appear in –
1. Virtual round
2. College level technical inspection
3. Onsite Technical Inspection and Dynamic round even on
proper eligibility within stipulated time shall not be eligible to
appear in the next level of the event.

3.6. Right to Impound


ASIAN E-BIKE CHALLENGE 2018 reserves the right to
impound any onsite registered vehicle at any time or at the stage
during the competition for inspection and the examination by
organizers, officials and technical inspectors.

3.7. Violations of Intent
The violations of intent of a rule will be considered a violation of
the rule itself. Questions about the intent or meaning of a rule
may be addressed to the organizers.

3.8. General authority


I2I organizing committee reserves the sole rights to revise the
schedule or venue of the competition and interpret or modify the
competition rules at any point of time and in any manner that is,
in their sole judgement, required for the efficient operation of the
event or the I2I as a whole.
Also, If the organizers find it to re-conduct the certain round or
event in case of any disputes, confusion, failure in maintaining
Strictness or any other reason, then the organizers have full
authority to reorganize event/particular round at their sole
discretion without being questioned.

3. Eligibility

4.1 Participants eligibility

Eligibility of participating students is limited to undergraduate


and graduate engineering students.
Team members must be at least eighteen (18) years of age at the
time of participation in event.

4.2 Driver’s eligibility
Team members (at least 2) who will drive the vehicle at any time
during the competition must hold a valid, government issued 2W
driver’s license.
Individual medical/health insurance coverage is required for
drivers and is the sole responsibility of the participants. Teams
will be asked to submit these documents at the time of event
during on-site registration.
No medical insurance will be provided by Imagine to Innovate
organisers. No claim by participants will be entertained in this
regard at any stage of the event.

4.3 Faculty advisor


Each team is supposed to have a Faculty Advisor appointed by
the college/university.
The Faculty Advisor is required to accompany the team to the
competition and will be considered by competition officials as the
official college/university representative.
Faculty Advisors may advise their teams on general engineering
and engineering project management theory and act as guide of
team. But it should be noted that at no point of time faculty
advisors can participate in the design and fabrication of vehicle.
This is done to ensure learning as well as hands on experience by
participating students.
Faculty advisors are allowed to attend virtual round, static &
dynamic events along with their team at event site but will not be
allowed to provide answers or justifications for any question on
behalf of team.

4.4 Vehicle eligibility
Vehicles participating in Asian E-Bike Challenge must be
designed, fabricated and maintained by the student team
members without direct involvement of professionals or any other
related external agency.

DESIGN PHASE

The participants first design an Electrical Bike on the various


designing software’s available in the market. They then asses
their designs on the analysis software’s; Simulation and check for
their practicability, reducing the chances of failure and ensuring
a good and safe design.

Build PHASE

The teams proceed to turn their imagination into reality, focusing


on all the systems separately and then combining them to certify a
formidable E-BIKE that is ready to become a part of the AEBC
legacy.

The student team may use any literature or references related to


vehicle design and information from professionals or from
academics.

4.5 Permission from institute


Permission of College to use workshop facility for all fabrication
purpose is required.
This permission letter should be submitted to Asian E-Bike
Challenge Organizing committee before starting of vehicle
fabrication at college facility. Submission of permission letter of
Institute is the sole responsibility of the participating team, if not

followed this may lead penalizing or disqualification of the team
from the competition.
Teams participating in the main event should take prior
permission from the institute /university to allow them to attend
the main event for 5 days and a copy of the same is to be
submitted to Asian E- Bike challenge organizing committee.

Initial Team Requirement


Team Name: No two teams will have same names. In case of any
dispute, the team using name from past will be given authority to
use the name. If any two new teams use same name then the team
registered first with full payment will retain the name and other
team will have to change the team name. Guidelines for selecting
name for team.

*Team Name should not hurt the sentiments of any


person/religion and should not have any religious word.
*Team Name should not criticize any social action of any group of
people or an Individual.

Team LOGO:
Every Team should have an Attractive and Meaningful Logo
(Not downloaded from Internet or copied).
Team Captain:
Every Team should have a Captain and Vice-Captain.

Discipline:
Every team member must be Undergraduate/ Diploma
student. Students must bring their college/ university ID card for
the Dynamic Round.
Driver:
Every Team must have two drivers. Driver must be above
18 years of age. The driver must have a valid driving license and
Medical Insurance. Organizers / Judges can verify them at any
time of the event.
Faculty Advisor:
Every team requires two Faculty Advisors (One from
Mechanical department and one from Electrical Department)
appointed by the College/University who will provide guidance as
needed throughout the Electric Bike designing, manufacturing
and testing Process.
Status:
The faculty Advisor will be considered as the official
representative of the College/University.
Responsibilities:
The Faculty Advisors may advise their teams on general
engineering and engineering project theory and act as guide to
them for this project. The Faculty Advisors are allowed to attend
the Dynamic Round along with their team at event site but will
not be allowed to provide answers or justifications for any
questions on the behalf of Team members. Faculty advisor is
recommended to verify all the documentation of the team.

Limitations:
Faculty should not design any part of the vehicle nor help in
the documentation/ presentation. Faculty advisor may advice the
team regarding the design and manufacturing but should not
fabricate or assemble or assist directly in the preparation,
manufacturing, maintenance, testing, and operation of the vehicle

5. Registration
5.1 Team structure
Team should consist of at least 8 members and at most 25
members. Team should contain a captain, vice-captain, driver, co-
driver, manager, quality inspector and sub departments.

5.2 Team name


Every team should have unique team name for registering to
Asian E-Bike challenge, Organizers may ask to change team
name if it is already registered by other teams.

5.3 Registration process


Registration for Asian E-bike challenge is a threefold process
which consists of following stages.

 Online Registration.
 Registration fee payment.
 Team details submission.

5.4 Online Registration
Every team should register their details through online
registration portal available in official website of Imagine to
Innovate (www.imaginetoinnovate.com) No team will be eligible
for further process without online registration.

5.5 Registration fee payment


After receiving confirmation mail from organizing committee
teams should deposit a non-refundable amount of ₹17499
(inclusive of all taxes) towards registration fee for event into the
below mentioned account.

Team Member: Every team require minimum 8 members and


maximum of 20 members.

Note:
Multiple Teams can participate from a single college/ University if
it follows the following rules:

 Every Team should have a different Team Name and Team


Logo.
 No team member of one team can be part of other team.
 The Faculty Advisor must be different for both the teams.
 If one team reports or design or any other content matches
with the other team, it may lead to disqualification of both
the teams.
DESIGN VALIDATION ROUND (VIRTUAL) (DVR)

1) Overview:

Virtual round is a pre-final round, in which all the teams have to


give a 15 minutes’ presentation illustrating their vehicle design
and other vehicle specifications in front of judges. In virtual
round, teams have to testify that they have necessary knowledge
and research work done to make this vehicle.

Technical Inspection

Before the dynamic event there will be TI (Technical


Inspection) which does not carry any points but is necessary for
participating in dynamic event. TI will be based on rule book
parameter and safety checks of the vehicle. The team will be
allowed only 3 chances for the TI test failing which the team will
be considered disqualified for the dynamic events.

6. Vehicle technical requirements


A) Vehicle presentation:
● Vehicle must have 2 wheels and in Straight Line.
● The point of contact between the tires and the road must be
symmetrical about the longitudinal centreline of the vehicle.

● The steering system must be able to control the vehicle and
it should control the front wheel. The steering handlebar must be
attached with the front wheel.
● Mud Guard on front and rear wheels and Leg Guard (Crash
Bar) are mandatory and should be used as used in commercial
vehicles.

B) Ground Clearance:

 Minimum ground clearance should be 7 inches (180mm)


measured from the lowest point of any part of the vehicle.
 Ground clearance will be from lowest part of the vehicle.

C) Frame:

 Teams are free to use any material of AISI standard


seamless pipe for fabrication (1080,1020 n more).
 Teams are required to manufacture their own chassis.
 The main frame must be Tubular with minimum outer
diameter of 1 inch and minimum thickness of 2 mm.
 The frame must contain the motor mounting location,
steering head location, battery mounting space, rear
suspension linkage, swing arm also.

 Footrest may be raised or lowered but cannot be lowered
than the bottom frame tube.
 The stand should be properly fixed to the frame, avoiding
any sort of movement.

D) Steering System:

 Handle bar should be fabricated by the team itself.


 The handle bar must have a ½ inch diameter ball end. There
should not be any failures like cracks, broken handle or
bent.
 Steering handle must be attached to the chassis in a proper
way. Any failures in the attachment may lead to penalty for
the team.

E) Braking System:

 The braking system must be installed on both the wheels


(Front and Rear).
 Teams are allowed to use only disc brake.
 The brake should not be wire actuated. It can be actuated
through mechanical linkage.
 There should be 2-disc brake in the vehicle for sure.
 Disc brake should be of hydraulic actuation, wire actuation
is strictly prohibited.
 The brake light (Red colour) must be used for showing the
brake's actuation for both front and rear, even during the
off state of bike.

F) Suspension System:

 Front: In the Front there should be double shock telescopic


hydraulic Suspension.
 Rear: Swing arm with mono suspension or dual swing arm
suspension can be used.
 We shall check for the travel of suspension for both front
and rear, teams shall have penalties if there is no proper
travel found.

G) Horn:

 An audible warning must be properly fitted permanently to


the bike. It must be capable of giving sufficient audible
warning of the presence of vehicle.

H) Tyres & Wheels:

 The minimum diameter of the tyre is 17 inches.


 Proper tyre is recommended, there might me surprise events
held like mud track autocross consisting of some obstacles
.(small pebbles, wooden pieces)
 Teams are allowed to use alloy wheels as well as spoke rims.
 The cycle tyre are strictly prohibited.
 Proper tyre not used, team shall have the penalties.

I) Terrain Capability:

 The bike must be capable of safe operation on black top


roads of India.

 There might me surprise events held like mud track
autocross consisting of some obstacles(small pebbles,
wooden pieces).

J) Mirrors:

 Teams must use two mirror, attached to the handle bar so


that the rear view can be clearly visible to the driver.

K) Indicators:

 There should be indicator lights on front and rear for


turning left or right. The light emitting must be of orange
color with blinking operation.

L) Driver Requirements:

 Teams must have two drivers, each having a driving license


for a two-wheeler vehicle. Individual medical/ accidental
insurance issued by Government of India is mandatory for
two drivers and is sole responsibility of participant. Teams
will be asked to submit these documents at the time of on-
site registration at the start of the Event.

M) Vehicle Capacity:

 As a prototype of commercial product, the design intent


should accommodate drivers of all sizes. The largest driver
must meet the minimum clearances and fit into the
comfortable driving position, while wearing the entire

required driver’s equipment. The smallest driver must
comfortably reach all the bike’s controls.

N) Lock Nuts or Nylon Nuts:

 Threaded fasteners used must meet or exceed the metric


grade of 8.8 or MS specification.
 Teams are required to use the lock nuts at every joint of the
vehicle where the nuts are required. Team fails to do so will
not be allowed to pass TI (Technical Inspection) or penalty
will be given.
 The fastener used in the vehicle must have min three and
max of five threads showing past of the nut.
 Use of lock-nuts in full vehicle is mandatory.
 Riveting is not allowed.

Nylon lock-nuts

O) Protections or Shields:

 All the drive train rotating parts like belts, shafts, chains etc.
must be covered with chain guard such things and shielded
and wheels must be properly covered with the mudguards.

 Teams are advised to use standard acceptable grades with
metric grade or M8 fasteners. It is not mandatory to use the
specified fasteners.
 There should be no sharp edges or corners or any open holes
left, which could harm the driver.

P) Wiring:

 Wiring should not go below the chassis. Wiring should not


be going through metallic pipes.
 It should be properly covered with insulated plastic pipe.
 Wires should not be tubed together, it might heat up and
damage whole vehicle.

Q) Safety:

 Teams should have a fire extinguisher of minimum 2kgs at


event site out of which 1 kg must be attached to the bike.
 It should be of ABC type and very easily accessible by both
driver and outsider also.
 The fire Extinguisher must be rigidly mounted on the
Vehicle.

R) Body Works:

 As the competition is having Rain Test, it is mandatory for


all teams to come up with proper Bodyworks.

 Teams can use GI sheet, Glass fibre, Carbon fibre, or any
other material that is water resistant.
 Any team that uses the bodyworks of already manufactured
vehicle may lead to the penalty.
 The bodyworks don’t include mudguards.

S) Vehicle Stand:

 The Vehicle should be not be equipped with the main stand


for the support.
 Vehicle should be able to stand on without any side support,
usage of external stand is mandatory.

T) Frame Joining and holes

 Teams are allowed to join members of the frame only with


welding, bolted frames are not allowed. Drill holes in frame
are strictly not allowed instead of making holes’ teams
should make use tabs for meeting requirement.
 The weld should be visible, usage of putty or M-seal will get
you penality.
 Teams should bring a T-joint and a Butt joint to the T.I

U) Sharp edges and protrusion

 Members or elements of frame should not contain any Sharp


edges and also any member should not protrude to ensure
no accidents with another vehicle in dynamic course of
events.

SAFETY EQUIPMENT
A) Bikers jacket

The driver must wear a biker’s Jacket. The jacket must be Fire
Resistant. Teams are requested to select a driver suit which has a
minimum TPP value.
B) Gloves:

 Leather Gloves with extra foam are acceptable. But teams


are requested to make sure that the TPP value at top of
glove is more than or equal to 6 Cal/cm2.

C) Knee and Elbow pads:

 Knee pads should cover the knees and elbow pads should
cover the elbow joints of hands.
 External pads should not be used.
 Use proper suit with pads within.

E) Balaclava:

 It is mandatory to wear the Balaclava. The same will be


checked during the Technical Inspection.
 Teams should not borrow from other teams.

F) Shoes & Socks:

 The fire-resistant shoes certified by SFI and standard and


labelled such as SFI 3.3, FIA 8856-2000 with the TPP value
more than 19 Cal/cm2 will be accepted.

 Canvas Shoes/Sport Shoes/Leather shoes/Industrial safety
shoes are not allowed.
 The socks with a minimum TPP value of 6 Cal/cm2 are
accepted. The socks should cover the bare skin between the
suit and the shoes.

G) Underclothing:

 It is strongly recommended that all drivers should wear fire


resistant underclothing (long pants and long sleeve t-shirts)
under their approved suit. The fire-resistant underclothing
should cover the driver’s body completely from neck to the
ankles and wrists.

H) Helmets:

 A well-fitting closed helmet must be used. Open faced


helmets are not allowed.

Use Double D-Ring helmets.

 The helmet must reach the any of the following certifications
and should be labelled as FIA 8860-2010, FIA 8860-2004,
K2000, K2005, K2010, K2015, M2000, M2005, M2010,
M2015, SA2000, SA2005, SA2010, SA2015, SFI 31.1/2005.
 CMS and B standard helmets are not allowed. All the
helmets to be used in the competition must be presented
during Technical Inspection where approved helmets will be
stickered.
 Avoid motocross helmets.

Required power transmission:


1) Motor:

 Teams can use DC motor* of any type. No constrains on


RPM and Torque.
 Maximum motor power should not exceed 2000 watts (at
peak).
 Maximum input voltage to motor and controller should not
exceed 48 volts.
 On the original bill the wattage and voltage of motor must
be clearly mentioned.
 Controller: Teams are free to use any type of controller
suited for the motor but have to show the specification sheet
of the controller.

*Motor shall be provided by us also, Based on team requirements.


*Motor shall be verified any time in the event.

Transmission:

 Teams are free to use any type of transmission, such limit


for speed of the bike on a plain terrain.
 The transmission must be clearly visible at the time of
engineering design event.
 The transmission can be chain drive, belt drive or gears.
 But teams are not allowed to use Hub motors.

Electrical System:
1) General Electrical System Overview:

 The electrical system must include: Battery pack, Motor,


Controller, Brake light, indicator and all other equipment
use this power source.
 The brake light (red colour) must be used for showing the
brakes actuation.
 For electrical innovations the power supply must be taken
from the Battery Pack.
 Separate 12V battery should not be used for horn, lights etc.
 Proper sealing of wire to be done using heat seals.
2) Battery:

 Teams can use either Lead Acid or Lithium Ion Batteries.


 Voltage output of Battery pack should not exceed by 48
volts.
 Maximum current capacity of the battery pack should not
exceed 80 Ah (ampere- hour).
 Battery must be able to provide power to all safety items
(Brake Light, Indicator Lights, Horn) for the duration of
entire Event.

 Batteries must be properly insulated with the insulating
Material.

3) Kill Switches – Location and Orientation:

 There must be two kill switches installed in the Bike. One


switch must be located in such a way that the driver can use
it so easily and it should be of Red Colour.
 The other should be at one side of the vehicle and must be
clearly visible from the outside and it also must be in Red
colour.
 The kill switches must disconnect all the power sources
except the Brake Light. The brake light must be operated
regardless of the kill switch setting

 Use this type of kill switches alone.


 The kill switches must have the rigid Mountings. A small
sticker must be attached near the kill switches stating as
“KILL SWITCH” in Red colour.

Events Round
The entire Event is divided into two phases. They are:

 Virtual Round
 Final Event

7. Virtual Round
1) Overview:
 Virtual round is a pre-final round, in which all the teams
have to give a 15 minutes’ presentation illustrating their
vehicle design and other vehicle specifications through
online. In virtual round, teams have to testify that they have
necessary knowledge and research work done to make this
vehicle.

2) Reports Submission:
 Design Report which contain
 Chassis (CAE Analysis & Calculation)
 CAD File (Chassis, Assembled view with Body Works)
 Innovation Report
 Technical Specification Sheet
 Steering Report (Technical Data, Calculations etc.)
 Suspension (Selection, Calculations, Technical Data &
Analysis if any)
 Braking Report (Selection, Calculations, and Technical Data
etc.)
 Tyres & Wheels (Specifications & Selection Parameters etc.)
 Transmission (Selection & Calculation)
 Innovation Report (Includes Flow Charts, Circuits,
calculations if any)

3) Cost Report:
 It is a pre-manufacturing Expenditure analysis report in
which teams submit an estimated cost of all the components
of the Bike. The cost report does not include the transport or
shipping charge of the Bike. The cost of all components in
the Bike must be included in the cost report.

4) Design Validation Plan (DVP):


 Design Validation plan is the assurance that a product,
service or System meets the needs of the customer and other
identified stakeholders. It often involves acceptance and
suitability with external customers. All the virtual and real
time tests and analysis are to be included in the design
Validation Plan.

5) Design Failure Mode Effect Analysis (DFMEA):


 It is a structured approach to:
 Identifying the ways in which a product or process can fail.
 Estimating Risk associated with specific Failures.
 Prioritizing actions that should be taken to avoid or reduce
risk.

6) Gantt chart:
 Gantt chart includes all the process during manufacturing of
the bike from the starting date to End Date. This chart is

basically the management of the project and distribution of
the work among the team members with completion
deadlines.

7) Environmental Sustainability Report:


 In this report team has to explain clearly the various effects
on the Environment due to the E-Bikes manufactured in the
large scale. The team has to do the research and submit a
report on the scale of change in the Environment due to the
usage of manufacturing materials. In this report the teams
have to clearly explain the various ways the E-Bikes are
reducing pollution and being Eco-Friendly.
 Teams are needed to submit what changes will be made on
environment by E-Bikes from the manufacturing level in
industries to the daily usage i.e., how the E-Bike
Manufacturing Industry brings a change in environment
compared to normal Bikes.
 Teams are requested to show the clear statistics of E-Bike on
environment.

8) Format:

 The reports are to be submitted in IEEE Format. All the


files must be compressed into zip or rar file and mailed to
Asian E-Bike official mail Id. The file must be sent with the
name as “AEBC Team id reports” i.e., if the team id of your
team is AEBC17 then the file name should be
“AEBC17reports.rar”.

8. STATIC EVENTS
A) Design
1) Objective and Overview:
The objective of this Design event is to evaluate the engineering
efforts that went into the design of the E-Bike and how the
engineering meets the intent of the market. Students will be
judged on the creation of design specifications and the ability to
meet those specifications, computer aided drafting, analysis,
testing and development, manufacturability, serviceability,
system integration and how the vehicle works together as a whole.
Final Design reports submitted will be cross checked and any
deviation from the data given in report will lead to point
deduction.

2) Final Design Report:


The design evaluation judging will start with submission, before
the event, of a Design Report. Soft copy of the design report must
be submitted as the dates mentioned.

Hard copy of final design report must be submitted on day-1 of


the event. The Design Report will be reviewed by the design
judges who will ultimately judge the team and vehicle at on- site
design Evaluation.

Reports to be submitted:

 Design Plan
 Environmental Sustainability Report
The design report must not exceed twenty (20) pages including
the table of contents and cover page. All pages must be A4 sheets.
The reports must be submitted in the PDF format. The
documents must be in a single file.
If any team fails to submit the reports in given time there will be a
penalty of 10 points per day to the team for 5 days and after if the
team fails to submit by then also then the team will not be allowed
for “On site design Evaluation.”

B) On Site Design Evaluation:

 In onsite design evaluation, Teams will be evaluated on the


basis of their design. The top scorer team will be given “Best
Engineering Design Award”.
 The design judges will evaluate the engineering effort based
on the team’s design report and responses to questions and
inspection of the Bike.
 It is the responsibility of judges to deduct point if the team
cannot adequately explain the engineering and construction
of the Bike.
 Teams may bring any support material with them for
Design Inspection like any photographs, drawings, plans,
charts, or any other material that support the presentation

of E-Bike and discussion of their development process. Use
of laptops, posters, notebooks and binders are allowed.

C) Cost Report:

 Teams have to give a brief overview of design features or


fabrication process that are innovative or are expected to
result in significant cost savings. Teams may also use the
overview to explain items or process that might appear to be
discrepancies within the report. The overview section is
limited to a maximum of four (4) pages.
 Also, teams have to submit copies of receipts, invoices, price
tags, catalogue pages, on-line prices, or other
documentation, to substantiate the costs of the parts and
materials of any item costing more than Rs. 200. Cost
documentation must be at full retail Indian prices. The
report is expected to be comprehensive, well documented,
truthful and accurate.
 If details of parts are found missing in the report, severe
penalties will be applied in terms of adding the cost of
missing part into projected cost by multiple times.
Final cost = cost projected in cost report + 2(cost of missing
equipment)

 The cost report must be submitted to the Judge panel


present in the Business Plan Presentation.
 If any team brings the fake bills, the team will be awarded
zero (0) points for cost report and a severe penalty will be
imposed on the team.

D) Business Plan Presentation:

1) Presentation Objective:

 The aim of the Marketing Presentation is to provide an


opportunity for the engineering students to prepare a
strategic business model of establishing a firm which can
produce their own design at a certain rate (say 10,000
vehicles per year) and market it.
 For the purpose of the presentation, teams are to assume
that the judges are to be a mixed group of corporate
executives who may have experience in marketing,
production and finance as well as engineering.
 Presentation – Format:
Teams are advised to prepare the model by working out on the
following points in the presentation:
1. Unique Selling Proposition (USP)
2. Market/Customer Survey (to analyse the product demand)
3. Different concepts & variants
4. Plant layout for mass production
5. Cost of product in mass production
6. Break-Even Analysis (in terms of time & quantity)
7. Return on Investment (in terms of time & money)
8. Marketing strategies (sales & after sales)

Three team members may make the presentation to the judges.


The presentation itself is limited to a maximum of ten (10)
minutes.

 Following the presentation there will be an approximately
five (5) minute question period.
 Only the judges are permitted to ask questions. Any team
member on the presentation floor/stage may answer the
questions even if that member did not speak during the
presentation itself.

Build Quality:
The design judges will evaluate the engineering effort based on
the team’s design report and responses to questions and
inspection of the Bike.

9. DYNAMIC EVENTS
In the Dynamic Events there will be some Qualifying rounds. The
teams that had cleared the Qualifying rounds will be allowed into
the Other Rounds.

Article 1- Technical Inspection:

The Technical Inspection is a Qualifying Round. Before the


dynamic event there will be TI (Technical Inspection) which does
not carry any points but is necessary for participating in dynamic
event.

TI will be based on rule book parameter and safety checks of the


vehicle. Every team will be given three chances to clear. If any
team fails to clear it in given chances, it leads to disqualification of
the team from the Event.

Only 3 team members (Captain & 2 other members) and 2


drivers will be allowed to Technical Inspection Arena. The

Technical Inspection consists of three (3) separate parts as
follows:

 Rulebook Inspection
 Safety Inspection
 Electrical Inspection
1) Rulebook Inspection:
In this the Technical Inspector will check whether the vehicle was
manufactured by following the Rules and Regulations in the
Rulebook or not. Any deviation from rulebook may lead to the
point Reduction.

2) Safety Inspection:

 In this the examination Driver safety is mainly concerned.


 One of the drivers must come to TI by wearing all the driver
gear and will be thoroughly inspected. It is responsibility of
driver to bring all the Helmets that he uses for race to the TI
Arena and get them stickered.
 Proper Functioning of Brake Light, Kill Switches, Horn,
Side Indicator Lights and side & Centre stand will be
checked.
 The Fire Extinguisher’s mounting and location will also be
checked.

3) Electrical Inspection:

 Electrical & electronics used in the vehicle will be inspected.


All the wirings should be safe and high current circuits must
be isolated from driver.

 Batteries must be mounted with sound engineering practice
and not come loose during any part of event. Battery
terminals must be insulated by using rubber (bicycle tube
etc.). Failing this, the technical inspectors may debar the
team from the dynamic events.
 Battery pack should be mounted/ connected in such a way,
that it can be removed/ disconnected. Use of mechanical
fixings such as nut bolts to hold the batteries are
recommended.
 Battery terminals should be tight and should not generate a
spark during the race.
 The vehicle must not have chances of electrical shock. Loose
connections and UN insulated electrical parts should not be
there.

NOTE: Driving Off-Site is absolutely prohibited. Teams found to


have driven their E-Bike at any off-site location may lead to
disqualification from the Event.

4) Self Certification Check Sheet: pre-inspection

 Before bringing their vehicle to technical inspection each


team must (1) pre-inspect the vehicle for compliance with
the rules, (2) complete the official Self Certification Check
Sheet, (3) have the completed check sheet signed by the
faculty advisor and team captain.

NOTE: Teams presenting Self Certification Check Sheets that are


(1) incomplete, (2) inaccurate (i.e. do not correspond to the actual
condition of the vehicle) (3) are found to have the items not in

accordance with the rules, or (4) do not represent a serious effort
at pre-inspection will be denied inspection at that time and sent
back to the end of the inspection line.

5) “As Approved” Condition:

 Once a vehicle has passed technical inspection its


configuration may not be modified.
 Non-identical parts not approved will be subject to an
appropriate performance penalty.
 Any repairs of a part that is not identical as the broken part
must be approved prior to the repair by judges or
organizers.
 Minor adjustments permitted by the rules and normal
vehicle maintenance are not considered modifications.

A) Brake & Acceleration Test:

 Brake test is a mandatory process, without passing this test


vehicle will not be allowed to proceed further. Each vehicle
will be given 3 attempts to pass the brake test**.
 The vehicle has to accelerate at its maximum along a 50m
track and then apply brake and stop the vehicle in the next
length of track i.e. 5 m.
 The time taken by the vehicle for covering 50 m length will
be considered to determine the acceleration of vehicle.
 If the vehicle did not stop within the specified distance, the
brake & acceleration test will not be cleared and team has to
attempt again.
 If the team has cleared the brake test they may still take
remaining attempts to improve their acceleration time.

**Rules can be changed atany time of the event based on the
suitation (distance for acceleration or braking) might be
changed if required.
B) Rain Test:

 After the technical inspection teams have to undergo for


Rain Test which does not carry any points but is necessary
for participating in dynamic event.

C) Weight Test:

 The E-Bike must be kept on the Platform using the Centre


Stand.
 Only one driver and the Captain are allowed into the Weight
Test Arena.
 If any parts are removed from E-Bike before coming to
weight test that may lead to the penalty for the team.
 The E-Bike that has the lowest weight will be awarded “The
Light Weight E-Bike Award”.
D) Autocross:

 Auto cross is an endurance test. Here we will check the


endurance of the vehicle in all manners. Vehicle’s
manoeuvrability, handling ease, ergonomics, manufacturing
strength, safety will be checked out.
 It will have combined with an integrated testing mechanism
that will also check the acceleration, braking, steering,
cornering, overtaking capabilities of the vehicle without
hindering another vehicles movement.

 Each team gets two attempts with same or different drivers.
Best out of two attempt score will be taken into
consideration. Timings will be checked out using electronic
system or stop watches.
 Track Details will be given at the time of event.
E) Terrain Test:

 Terrain test is an endurance test. The track will consist of all


types of roads.
 Vehicle’s manoeuvrability, handling ease, ergonomics,
manufacturing strength, safety will be checked out.

 It will have combined with an integrated testing mechanism


that will also check the acceleration, braking, steering,
cornering, overtaking capabilities of the vehicle without
hindering other vehicles movement.

F) Innovation Test:
After autocross event, judges will visit into the pit area where all
the innovations done in the vehicle will be tested.
The parameters on which the Judging will be done are as Follows:

 Cost vs Utility
 Eco-Friendly
 Working of Innovation
 Future Scope
 Real world Application
The innovation must be properly fitted in the vehicle during the
entire Event.
G) Endurance Test: Overview:

 The track provided will be 2kms** and the teams have to
run their vehicle for 2 hours.**The vehicle that covers the
max. Distance will be considered as the winner of Endurance
Round.
Rules of Endurance:

 The vehicle will not be allowed into the Pit arena once it
entered the Race Track. Changing of Batteries or charging
of Batteries after entering into Endurance is strictly
restricted.
 If a vehicle hits other’s vehicle then the team that hit the E-
Bike will be disqualified. Overcrossing in the no-
overcrossing zones lead to penalty.
 If any vehicle stops on the track they can take their E-Bike
to a side of track and can repair there only under the
observation of a volunteer. The Endurance Event is designed
to evaluate the overall performance of the vehicle and to test
the vehicle's reliability. Any top speed.

10. Behaviour

Unsportsmanlike Conduct
In the event of unsportsmanlike conduct, the team will receive a
warning from an official. A second violation will result in
expulsion of the team from the competition. Failure of a team
member to follow an instruction or command directed specifically
to that team or team member will result in a twenty-five (25)
point penalty.

Arguments with Officials


Argument with, or disobedience to, any official may result in the
team being eliminated from the competition. All members of the
team may be immediately escorted from the grounds.

Smoking and Illegal Material


Alcohol, illegal drugs, weapons or other illegal material are
prohibited on the event site during the competition. This rule will
be in effect during the entire competition. Any violation of this
rule by a team member will cause the expulsion of the entire
team. This applies to both team members and faculty advisors.
Any use of drugs, or the use of alcohol by an underage individual,
will be reported to the local authorities for prosecution.

Penalties
Violation of rules –penalty of 50 points/ disqualification.

Misbehaviour/arguments with officials or volunteers – penalty of
100 points/ disqualification.
Tampering with TI sticker or making restricted changes in
vehicle after TI –
Penalty of 100 points/disqualification.
Entry without permission on tracks - 100 points/ disqualification.

Damages - Intentional damage to track/tent/other resources will


result to the cash penalty of Rs 5000/- or cost of actual damage
whichever is more. Also prize and certificates will not be awarded
to the particular team and team member.
Organizers have the right to modify the penalties listed in the
various dynamic event descriptions to better reflect the design of
their event courses, the course lengths or any special conditions
unique to the site. The standard dynamic event penalties in these
rules are default values that will be applied unless there is a
change by the organizer.

12. PROTESTS

12.2. Cause for Protest


A team may protest for dynamic round scores. Teams, team
members or any other members may not protest for rule
interpretations or actions.
Protest for any other issue other than dynamic round scores will
be considered unethical and illegal with regards to this rulebook
and appropriate legal action will be taken against such team/team
members in this case. Such protest will also result in permanent
disqualification or banned for future events.

12.3. Who can file the protest?
Only team captain on behalf of whole team can file the protest.
Other team members should not accompany or interfere in filing
of such protest.

12.4. Protest Format and Forfeit


All protests must be filed in writing in prescribed manner with in
stipulated time and presented to the organizer. In order to have a
protest considered, a team must deposit a Rs. 5000 amounts,
which will be forfeited if their protest is rejected.

12.5. Time duration to file protest


Protests concerning any aspect of the competition must be filed
within half hour (30 minutes) of the posting of the scores of the
event to which the protest relates.

12.6. Decision
The decision of the competition protest committee regarding any
protest is final and is non-challengeable.
All the disputes (If any) regarding the whole event are subject to
only KAKINADA jurisdiction

1. When and where will the event be conducted?
Ans: The event schedule has already been provided on the
website. The venue of the event & Final Dates will be announced
accordingly and teams will be intimated through E-mail.
However, if there is any change in schedule teams will be
informed prior through E-mail.

2. Will there be any 'Virtual' round?


Yes, as this is a professional event, before starting of
manufacturing the vehicle, you need to do design, analyze
and documentation of your proposed Bike and do the
presentation. The expert will approve the proposed design or
they may give a suggestion to do the modification. According
to the suggestion you can work on manufacturing of the
Electrical Bike.
