Welcome Back
It is that special time of year where the community comes together once again to send our children, grandchildren and neighbors back to school. The opportunity to
make a difference in the lives of these students is second to none. In an ever-changing world, there is no greater reward than observing the successes that our stu-
dents display each year whether it is in the classroom, the field of competition, the arts or on the stage.

I saved the stage for last because that is where the most rewarding experience occurs at the end of the school year. Each year we celebrate the accomplishments of
our seniors as they receive their diplomas on graduation day. This is such a special experience as often times I am thinking of all of the different things our students
have accomplished over their 13-year educational career to get to that point. Each and every year has a significance to opening doors for a bright future for our youth.
This year as a school district we want to focus with the end in mind of sending our students out our doors prepared to take on the challenges that await and prepare
them for the opportunity to be the next successful generation to leave Fostoria City Schools and leave a legacy on the community and beyond.

This year is going to be a year of transition and energy that we hope is second to none. This fall we will be able to open our newly renovated Fostoria Elementary
School, where all students in grades PK-6 will be able to synergize on a daily basis. While the final touches are being completed on this building, the ideas of team-
work, collaboration, and opportunity are being developed in order to provide our students unique learning opportunities that they have not had in the past.
As we close out 2019 and move into the new year we will get to experience much of the same excitement as the new JSHS will open after the first of the year.

It takes more than just a building or any individual efforts in order to truly inspire and succeed. It takes an entire community coming together to support our youth and
guiding them in a positive direction. As we start the new year I look forward to working with everyone to provide the greatest opportunity and experience that we can for
our students. I always remember that someone took the time to invest in all of us when we were young, and now is that opportunity to return that great gesture. If we
all come together and put our separate energies together we truly can Inspire. Succeed. Leave a Legacy.

TRAFFIC FLOW 2019-2020

As we gear up for the 2019-2020 school year there has
been a large amount of site work completed over
the course of the summer. This has resulted in
a revised traffic flow pattern that will mirror very
closely the final traffic pattern when all of the
construction is completed. The map will provide a
visual to support the explanation provided.

Fostoria Elementary
Student drop off will remain on the south side of the
building.
Buses will drop off on the north side of the building.

Junior/Senior High School

Student drop off will be on the east side of the
building. As the new parking lots are completed
on the east side there is much more room to drop
students, which should help to eliminate any backup
that we used to have out on to H.L. Ford and
Wainwright.

Buses will drop students on the west side of the

JSHS.

As you may notice we are working to keep student

drop off and bus traffic as separate as we possibly
can. This helps ease congestion but also works for
student safety. As you enter the campus always
remember to watch your speed and watch for Staff & Student
students and staff that may be walking. Please Parking
follow the patterns that are outlined on the map
in order for drop off and pick up to be successful.
There is also plenty of sidewalk space as well so
please pull forward as far as you can or that you
are asked to in order to speed up the drop off times.
Students can then safely walk down the sidewalks
into the buildings.

INSPIRE. SUCCEED. LEAVE A LEGACY.
These 5 words are the vision of the Fostoria City Schools district and encapsulate our goals for the students at Fostoria Junior/Senior High School to become empowered
young adults who will make a difference in the world around them. The 2019 - 2020 school year is going to be a once-in-a-generation opportunity as we prepare to open a new
building and begin the next chapter for our current Redmen community, and for many more to come!
We would like to begin by welcoming our incoming 7th grade students to Fostoria Junior/Senior High School. As members of the Class of 2025 you have the opportunity to
create a legacy over the next six years that will live on and be an example for future classes. We encourage each of you to seize this opportunity, become engaged in our
school community, and be an active participant in helping us create a powerful educational experience for you and your classmates! We are proud to be YOUR school!!
We would also like to welcome our new staff to the building. This year Fostoria Junior/Senior High School is introducing 6 new teachers in a variety of roles. They include:
Brad Bowser - 9th grade English
Heidi Corbin - High School Spanish
Bailey Daugherty - 7th grade Science
Josh Fox - 8th grade Social Studies
Casey Kitchen - Junior High Intervention Specialist
Darius McBride - Junior High and High School Choral Director
When selecting new staff members we look for those who have a passion and enthusiasm for teaching and who are committed to making an impact in students’ lives. We are
fortunate to be bringing on board a group of teachers who have had a wide-range of experiences in their careers thus far, and that will help us continue to grow as a school,
striving to best meet our students’ needs.
School Delay Schedule
With the consolidation of the elementary schools and the opening of Fostoria Elementary School as our new neighbor, the Fostoria Junior/Senior High School bell schedule
has been slightly revised to accommodate the bussing needs for our two schools. The start and end of the school day have been moved back by 10 minutes from last year.
School will now begin at 7:45 a.m. and will dismiss at 2:35 p.m. The complete high school and junior high bell schedules, for both a regular school day and a two-hour delay,
are included on the next page.

Included below are general supply lists for grades 7 - 12. These are essential items that all students will use throughout the school year. There may be other more specific
items requested by the different classroom teachers throughout the school year.
FJSHS will host the high school’s “Welcome Back Redmen”
event for students in grades 9-12 on Wednesday, August 28th
from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m.
Students in 10th - 12th grade will be able to pick up their
schedules, find their classrooms, meet their teachers, and drop
off items for the new school year in their assigned lockers.
A brief freshmen orientation will be held at 5:00 p.m. in the
Performing Arts Center. Topics discussed will include:
graduation and state-testing requirements
athletic information
behavioral and social-emotional supports
building expectations for our high schoolers.
9th grade schedules will be available to be picked up AFTER the
conclusion of orientation.

On Thursday, August 29th all 7th and 8th grade students are
invited to attend our junior high “Welcome Back Redmen”
event. During this event, students and families will learn about
the academic expectations for junior high students and state
testing requirements, athletic eligibility, extra and co-curricular
opportunities, tips for a successful start to the school year, and
more.
Chromebooks will not be distributed
during open house. Students will receive
their devices on the first day of school. All
students must have all forms completed and
submitted through Final Forms before they
will be issued their Chromebook.

WELCOME TO FOSTORIA ELEMENTARY!

Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year! We are excited to begin our first year together as Fostoria Elementary School.  Having all the students on one campus
will provide us with more opportunities to collaborate PK-6 and involve students from the FJSHS as mentors for PK-6 students.
We are moving into our 5th year of The Leader In Me and will be recognized as a Lighthouse School due to Longfellow being awarded Lighthouse status in
March 2018.  By utilizing the 7 Habits our students will continue to build the social/emotional foundation to be lifelong leaders. This year we will continue to
develop and refine PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention Support). We will support students with behavioral, social and emotional goals. The staff at Fostoria
Elementary believes in showing their appreciation for positive behavior and demonstration of our school-wide expectations of being safe, responsible and
respectful leaders.
Our entire team is eager and excited to begin what promises to be an incredible year.  The excitement has been building with the renovations and new spaces
being developed throughout the building.  With the renovations and new spaces, teachers will foster learning environments that provide opportunities for
students to create, collaborate, and communicate while promoting critical thinking. One of the greatest characteristics of the Fostoria learning community is the
genuine care and compassion shared between staff, students, and parents. Fostoria Elementary is a place where staff and families come together to ensure that
the children entrusted into our care grow to be productive, confident, compassionate members of a global society. We look forward to an amazing year!

FRIENDLY FACES:
As we transition into one building, we are fortunate enough to be lead by our amazing administrative team who is willing to do anything to make sure students
and teachers are successful. You will hopefully see some friendly faces if you are a returning student or family with FCS. Mrs. Bauman will be Principal for
preschool through 2nd grade, Mrs. Bernal will continue as Principal for grades 3rd through 6th and Mr. Haupert will be assistant principal for PK-6.
Our secretarial staff will be working hard to make sure questions are answered and things and running efficiently. Mrs. Burns and Mrs. Myers will be in the front
attendance office and Ms. Lambright will be in the main office. If you have questions with the start of the year feel free to contact us at 419-436-4125. We will
also update our Facebook page with current information and upcoming events.

GET READY FOR SCHOOL:
As summer comes to an end and back-to-school season begins, it can be hard to get back into a regular schedule — both for
kids and adults.
The trick here is to plan ahead. By starting back into a routine, your family will feel less stress and chaotic as the school year
begins. By families planning together, we are exercising habits 2 and 3- Begin with the End in Mind and Put First Things First.
Join us for the Back to School Bash on Aug. 21st from 5pm-8pm
Set your kids’ sleep schedules back to “School Time” two weeks before the first day
Encourage your kids to read at least one book before the school year begins.
Meet your teacher on Aug. 27th from 4pm-6pm and drop off supplies.
Discuss what your kids can expect on the first day so they feel more prepared.
Create a dedicated space for your kids to store their school supplies and technology at home.
Use positive language when talking about school. Ask questions like “what are you excited about for school this year?” or “What fun things do you think you will do
today?”
SCHOOL DAY CONVERSATIONS
Once school starts, engage in conversation with your child about their day at Did you like your lunch?
school. Instead of, “How was your day?” you can ask more positive and engaging What was the hardest rule to follow today?
questions such as: If you could change one thing about your day, what would it be?
What made you smile today? What made your teacher smile?
Can you tell me an example of kindness you saw or showed today? What made your teacher frown?
What did you do that was creative? If you could switch seats with anyone in class, who would it be? And why?
Who did you sit with at lunch? What kind of person were you today?

School Delays, Closings & Announcements

We believe it is important to communicate with our families.  One way
we do that is with our instant message system. We are using a company
called School Messenger for school delays, closings, emergencies, an-
nouncements, etc.
The phone numbers and emails that are used initially are the contacts listed
in our student information system for each child/family.  If you would like to
change how you are contacted please contact your child’s school office.
