We distributed the first edition of the Euregio Music Exchange Guide last year during the
Euregional network get-together at the Eurosonic Noorderslag Festival in Groningen. Much
has happened in the past twelve months. Our initiative was well received by the entire
Euregion, and we witnessed the launch of many new cross-border exchange projects.

To name just a few: more coordination and closer cooperation between music education
programmes in the Euregion; the DVERS festival in Sit tard showcased dozens of Belgian,
Dutch and German acts; Belgian, Dutch and German bands toured all th ree countries
during ‘ DVERS on tour ’ and not only received coach ing and discovered new venues but
also made new friends and played music together, both old and new; the organisers of
Venlo’s Zomerpark feest Festival held a network meeting for German and Dutch festival
organisers; the Nieuwe Nor rock & pop venue in Heerlen organised another successful Pop
coN-Nect exchange project; Stichting Popmuziek Parkstad is set ting up a Euregional rock
& pop circuit; and a new ar tists’ collective, Visions of Moresnet, was established in Sit tard.

Here, in shor t, is evidence that our Euregion can entice music industr y professionals who
would like to leave the familiarit y of their own countr y to explore the scene just over the
national border, en route to international collaboration.

The idea of sur veying all the venues, festivals and – in time – the entire rock & pop sector
in the Euregion came from Stichting Popmuziek Limburg, Kulturraum Niederrhein and PXL-
Music. Their purpose is to give music professionals looking to play the Euregion a helping
hand. Their initiative fits in per fectly with PXL-Music’s international and intercultural activities
and the pop music policy of the Dutch Province of Limburg.

We’re delighted to present the second edition of our Guide. It covers a host of new venues
and festivals, including in the Liège region. Like the first edition, th is publication undoubtedly
contains some errors and omissions. And because the rock & pop scene is changing
constantly, guides like th is one soon become out of date.

So let us know (*) what we’ve left out and where we’ve made mistakes. There’s always
room for improvement! And let ’s keep moving onwards and upwards towards closer
collaboration.

In order to bet ter promote the rich cultural scene
of the Niederrhein (Lower Rh ine) region, to have
institutions collaborate and to regulate and suppor t
funding more centrally, the Kulturraum Niederrhein
e.V. association was founded in 1992. The
organisation stimulates and suppor ts national and,
especially, cross-border networks of municipalities
and private cultural institutions, and the promotion of
