Dear resident,

City Centre Deansgate Protest: Friday 29th September – Monday 2nd September

As many of you will have heard, the group Extinction Rebellion plans a city centre protest
about climate change over the next four days. The announced event is an occupation of
Deansgate, from John Dalton Street to St Mary’s Gate. These arrangements could change.
The event is bound to cause some disruption, particularly for city centre residents.

Deansgate Councillors respect the right of citizens to protest peacefully.

All three Deansgate Councillors supported Manchester’s recent declaration of a Climate

Emergency and we are committed to working to a zero carbon future as soon as possible.

We also expect the rights of residents to go about their daily business unimpeded to be
respected by all. Manchester City Council has been working alongside Greater
Manchester Police and other agencies to ensure that your rights are protected.
