Activity Type Introduction


Reading, writing, In this engaging worksheet activity, students learn about different
listening and speaking types of film genre. Students also discuss and recommend films
activity, pairwork they like from the different genres.

Procedure
Language Focus
Give each student a copy of the worksheet.
Film genres

Film vocabulary Go through the vocabulary on the worksheet and check the students
understand the language.

Aim Tell the students to think of a film that they enjoyed watching for
each type of genre.
To learn about different
types of film genre and The students then write the names of the films in the 'Film Title'

A. Think of a film that you like for each type of genre. Write the names of the films in the 'Film
Title' column.

Contains: exotic and historical places, searches and expeditions

Comedy
Contains: funny or comical events, jokes, one-liners

Crime/Gangster
Contains: criminals, mobsters, theft, murder, police

Drama
Contains: realistic characters, settings and real-life situations

Horror
Contains: frightening scenes, a shocking finale, ghosts, monsters

Musical
Contains: songs, dance routines/performances, choreography

Sci-fi
Contains: heroes, aliens, distant planets, futuristic technology

War
Contains: the horror and heartbreak of war, fighting, soldiers

B. In pairs, discuss the films you like from the different genres using the language below. Then,
recommend two film titles from the chart above to your partner.

Useful language:

What (action film) do you like? What's it about? Where/When is it set?

Who stars in it? Why do you like it? Who is the director?

When was it made? How many times have you seen it?

What films do you recommend?
