We are Scholars!
Kindergartners started the year off on a positive note.
What a great start to our school year! We had four learning- and
community-filled days. We learned about how to be Scholars in Room 6
and we also learned how to be Scholars across environments in our
school. Ask your Scholar how they show POWER on the playground and
in the cafeteria. We had our first PE (physical education), music, art,
REACH (technology), and library classes this week. We celebrated
Dahlia’s birthday and also got to spend time learning about being safe in
case of a fire at school. Ask your Scholar how they think a Scholar
would act while learning in the classroom.
Literacy work
Next week we will learn the letters a, t, and m.
This week we read several fun, back-to-school books: First Day Jitters,
The Lorax, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, a nd E-mergency. These books
helped us learn about retelling a story so that we will be able to retell
other stories during independent work time. Ask your Scholar what the
important parts of retelling a story are (beginning, middle, and end).
Math work
Next week we will work on noticing attributes.
This week we started our Number Corner routine. This is a time when
we get to learn about numbers, count the days we’ve been in school,
and build counting fluency. Ask your Scholar who Hap the happy
grasshopper is!
