I. Objectives
1. To simulate camouflage done by the organism to blend with their
environment;
2. To observe how wild predators select their preys;
3. To identify the significance of the species’ adaptation to its environment; and
4. To test how an organism’s needs change the traits of the organism.
II. Materials
Paper puncher
Construction paper
(green, orange, pink,
peach, red, white, yellow)
Handkerchief
III. Procedure
Yellow 5
Pink 4
Orange 3
Peach 3
White 2
Red 2
Green 1
V. Analysis
1. Which among the colored dots were picked up the most from the
handkerchief?
Among all of the six different colors, yellow was picked up the most from
the handkerchief. The preys in the group presume that yellow dots were
frequently picked up by the predator in the handkerchief for its
outstanding, neon color. Colormatters.com states that “more light is
reflected by bright colors, resulting in excessive stimulation of the eyes.”
2. Which among the colored dots were not picked up? Why do you think so?
Among all of the six different colors, green was picked up once only
because the handkerchief is also green. The green dots were not noticed
because they blend well in the background. The green dots had almost the
similar color as the handkerchief, yet the handkerchief was a little bit
darker.
4. If colored dots (prey) were able to live through several generations, what
trends in survival of prey would you observe?
If the colored dots were able to live through several generations, all the
dots will be colored green, for the trait which was used by the ancestor
who needed it will be passed through heredity. The trait of being colored
as green will pass through many generations because it is a need for
survival.
