Docking Practicum for the da Vinci S Surgical System

Objective:
To train surgeons on the proper techniques for setting up and docking the da Vinci Surgical System in a safe and
efficient manner

Section 1: Docking Overview

The Docking Practicum includes a two page Docking Overview that reviews the proper setup and docking
procedures on the da Vinci Surgical System. Please review the Docking Overview prior to completing the Docking
Practicum Evaluation.

Section 2: Docking Practicum Evaluation

Completion of the Docking Practicum requires at least three successful attempts at setting up and docking the
da Vinci Surgical System within the required timeframe.

Supplies needed:
1. da Vinci S Surgical System

2. Camera and Camera Arm Assembly:

• Endoscope
• Camera Sterile Adapter
• Light Guide Cables
• Camera Arm Sterile Adapter
• Camera Cannula
• Camera Arm Cannula Mount Molding (from Camera Arm Drapes)

3. Instrument Arm Assembly:

• Instrument Arm Sterile Adapters
• Instrument Cannulae
• Instrument Arm Cannula Mount Molding (from Instrument Arm Drapes)

4. Pelvic Trainer Chamberlain model with replacement skin, with pre-cut port incisions for a da Vinci
Prostatectomy, positioned at end of OR table

5. Several copies of Docking Practicum Evaluation

System Setup:
Connect System and perform Start-up and Homing. Connect Camera Assembly. Attach Camera Arm and
Instrument Arm Sterile Adapters (no drapes required- but use of the cannula mount molding is recommended).
Attach the cannula mount molding to the cannula mounts. Attach Camera Arm and Instrument Arm Cannula
Mounts. Position the Patient Cart with Surgical Arms askew and use the clutch buttons to move the System out of
the Home position.
