SUB: - ANNOUNCEMENT INFORMATION REGARDING


WINTER INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME - 2010

The National Human Rights Commission has expressly been mandated to promote
Human Rights literacy and awareness vide Section 12 (h) of the Protection of Human
Rights Act, 1993. With a view to spread awareness among University students about the
need for protection and promotion of Human Rights, the Commission has been regularly
conducting ‘Summer and Winter Internship Programmes’ since 1998 and 2000
respectively.

This year the “Winter Internship Programme (WIP) 2010” will commence
from 22nd December 2010 (Wednesday) to 20th January 2011 (Thursday). The
proposed eligibility criteria will be as follows:

The students with following subjects will be considered for selection in WIP - 2010

1) Students of the 4th and 5th year pursuing 5 Years Integrated Law Course –
(while applying).

2) Students of the 3rd year pursuing 3 years LL.B. Course – (while applying).

3) Students of LL.M. Course

4) Students pursuing Post Graduate Diploma in Human Rights, MA in Human


Rights, Post Graduate students of Political Science, Sociology, Social Work
(MSW), Criminology, Public Administration, Rural Development, History,
Economics, Anthropology, International Relations, M.Com and any of the
discipline of Social Sciences would be considered with preference to students
pursuing their final year. Only regular students of UGC Recognized universities
will be eligible.

5) Efforts will be made to give representation to all categories.

First Priority States/UTs:

Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Daman & Diu and Sikkim.


Second Priority States/UTs:

Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Aruanachal Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar,
Chhattisgarh, Chandigarh, Delhi, Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu &
Kashmir, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Lakshadeep, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra,
Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Orissa, Pondicherry, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil
Nadu, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, Uttrakhand and West Bengal.

Brief Course Structure of WIP 2010 would be -

About 84 sessions on various human rights issues are proposed to be covered to sensitize
the interns. The medium of the course will be in English. The WIP 2010 will include
following inputs:
• Classroom sessions.
• Interaction with Hon’ble Members of NHRC.
• Project work on Human Rights issues.
• State Presentation on Human Rights Scenario of the State to they belong to.
• Book Review from NHRC Library.
• Debate on Human Rights related issues.
• Films on Human Rights & Discussion – Child Labour issues, Anti Trafficking,
Health and Education issues and discussions.
• Field Visits – Two field visits will be organized from following areas such as Jail,
Juveline Home, Beggar’s Home, Nariniketan & Old Age Home as per the prior
approval of concerned authorities.
• Cultural programme would be organized on the eve of valediction day of the WIP
2010.

Rules and Regulations governing Internship Programme :


• The interns have to get their registration done on the date of arrival i.e. 22nd
December 2010 at 9.30 a.m. at NHRC, New Delhi.
• They will have to attend the programme regularly without break.
• Their daily attendance will be marked in a register.
• On completion of the Internship, Certificates will be issued on the basis of
performance on the following criteria: Attendance; Punctuality, Discipline,
Participation in Class during sessions; State Presentation; Project Presentation
& Project Report; Debate and Book Review.

Facilities to Interns:
• The interns will be given a Kit/Bag containing NHRC reading materials and Intern
Badges.
• Library facilities.
• Computer facilities on sharing basis will be provided with Internet facilities.

STIPEND

The selected interns from outside Delhi will be allowed ordinary second-class
train fare to New Delhi and back to their place of study through the shortest route. For
interns other than from Delhi (NCR) will be paid an amount of Rs.5000/- (Rupees five
thousand only) as stipend. Students from Delhi and National Capital Region (NCR) will
be paid Rs.2500/- (Two thousand five hundred only) as stipend. Award of Rs.5,000/-
will be given to the Best Intern.

APPLICATION FOR WIP 2010

The last date for the submission of the application is 12th November 2010. Kindly
send the application by speed post/ courier superscribed on the envelope “Application
for WIP 2010”. The ‘Application Form’ for WIP 2010’ is available at Annexure–I .

Please ensure that the application for WIP 2010 is duly signed and sealed by the Head
of the Department (HOD). Applications submitted otherwise will not be accepted.

No application will be accepted after the deadline of 12th November, 2010.

The selected interns are requested to bring two passport size photographs.

Application in the prescribed proforma (Annexue-I) duly forwarded by HODs may please
