1. A 4 pole lap connected armature has 144 slots with 2 coil sides per slot, each coil having 2 turns. If the
flux per pole is 20mWb and it rotate at 720rpm. Determine the induced emf induced.

2. A DC generator has an armature emf of 100V, when the useful flux per pole is 20 mWb and the speed
is 800rpm. Calculate the generator emf with the same flux at a speed of 1000rpm and with a flux per
pole 24mWb and a speed of 900 rpm.

3. A 8 pole DC generator has 500 armature conductors and useful flux of 0.05 Wb. If it is lap connected
and runs at 1200 rpm find Eg? What should to be the speed at which it has to be driven to produce the
same emf if it is wave wound?

4. A 8 pole lap wound armature rotate at 350rpm is required to generate to 260V. The useful flux per
pole is about 0.05Wb. If the armature has 120 slots, calculate a suitable number of conductor per slot
and hence determined the actual value of flux required to generate the same voltage.

5. A lap wound DC shunt generator having 80 slots with 10 conductors per slot generate a no load emf of
400V, when running at 1000 RPM. Find out the flux per pole. If the same generator is required to
generate a voltage of 220V on open circuit at what speed it should rotate.

6. A 4 pole machine running 1500rpm has an armature with 90 slots having 6 conductors per slot. If
useful flux per pole is 0.6Wb determined Eg as a DC generator, if the coils are lap connected, if the
current per conductor is 100A, find the power delivered by the machine.

7. A 4 pole shunt generator with lap connected armature having field resistance and armature
resistance 50Ω and 0.1Ω respectively, supplies a 2400W load at 100V. Calculate the total armature
current, current per conductor and induced emf.

8. A 8 pole DC shunt generator has 778 wave connected armature conductor running at 500 RPM,
supplies a load of 12.5 Ω at a terminal voltage of 250V determined armature current, generated emf
and flux per pole if armature and field circuit resistance are 0.24 Ω and 250 Ω respectively.

9. A 4 pole lap wound DC shunt generator has flux per pole of 0.07Wb, the armature consist of 220
turns each of 0.004Ω resistance, calculate the terminal voltage when running at 1000 RPM at a load
current of 60 Amp.

10. A 4 pole DC shunt generator with lap connected armature has shunt field resistance and armature
resistance of 80Ω and 0.1Ω respectively. It supplies power to 50 lamps rated 100V, 60W each.
Calculate armature current and induced voltage by allowing a voltage drop of 1V per brush.

11. A 4 pole DC shunt generator with wave connected armature has 41 slots and 12 conductors per slot.
The shunt field resistance and armature resistance of 200 Ω and 0.5 Ω respectively, the flux per pole is
125 mWB. When the generator is driven at 1000 RPM calculate the voltage across the load having
resistance 10Ω. Also determine load current, Armature current and output power.

12. A 4 pole long shunt lap wound generator supplies a load of 25KW at a terminal voltage of 500V. The
shunt field resistance, series field resistance and armature resistance of 200Ω, 0.04Ω and 0.03Ω
respectively. Determine Eg allowing a brush drop of 2V.

13. The armature of a 4 pole lap wound DC machine has a core length of 30cm and dia meter of 40 cm.
the total number of conductor is 500 and rotate at a speed of 1200 RPM. For an average flux density
of 0.5T, determine the internal torque developed and gross mechanical power for an armature current
of 20A.

14. A 6 pole lap wound generator has 240 coils of 2 turns each. Resistance of 1 turn is 0.03 Ω the armature
is 50 cm long and 40 cm dia meter. Air gap flux density of 0.6T is uniform over pole shoe. Each pole
subtends and angle of 400 mechanical. For a speed of 1200rpm determined Eg and terminal voltage for
a load current of 40 A.

15. A 230V DC shunt machine has shunt field resistance and armature resistance of 115Ω and 0.5Ω
respectively. If the machine is connected to 230V supply mains find the ratio of speed as a generator to
the speed as motor. The line current in each case is 40Amp.

16. A 10Kw, 250V, 6 pole lap connected DC generator runs at 1200rpm. The armature has 500
conductors. For a full load armature ohmic loss of 200W find useful flux per pole. Consider 2V as
the brush drop.

17. A 6 pole, 12KW, 240V DC machine is wave connected. If this machine is now lap connected keeping
all other parameter constant determined the rating of the machine.

18. A separately excited DC generator operating with fixed excitation delivers 450 KW to a DC bus at
600V. Estimate the percentage change in speed required so that 180Kw is deliver to the bus. The
armature circuit resistance being 0.03Ω.

19. A 10 KW 6 pole DC generator develops an emf of 200V at 1500rpm. The armature has a lap
connected winding. The average flux density over a pole pitch is 0.9T. The length and the diameter of
the armature are 0.25m and 0.2 m respectively. Calculate flux per pole, total number of conductors and
torque developed if the armature current is 50 A.

20. The armature of a 2 pole 200 V generator has 400 conductors and runs at 300 RPM. Calculate the
useful flux per pole. If the number of turns in each field coil is 1200, what is the average value of emf
induced in each coil on breaking the field, if the flux dies away completely in 0.1 sec?

21. The induced emf in a DC machine when running at 500 RPM is 180V. Calculate the induced emf
when it runs at 600 RPM assuming rest quantities to be constant.

23. A separately excited Generator delivers 120A at 500V when running at 1200rpm. At what speed it

27. A belt driven 60KW shunt wound generator running at 500rpm is supplying full load to a bus bar at
200V. At what speed will it run if the belt breaks and the machine continued to run taking 5KW from

28. A 500V, 250KW long shunt compound generator induces an emf of 480V. When running at 1000rpm
on no load. On full load the speed drops to 975rpm, flux increase by 15% and the terminal voltage

i) Is the motor differentially or cumulatively compounded
