Elements of Dancing

 Space- The area the performers occupy

 Timing- The performers move with the tempo of the underlying sound, Tempo- Speed
 Dance Energies- movements are propelled by energy or force

Unity -The interconnected phrases of the dance are coherent and flow smoothly together

Variety and contrast- Making one or several variations that highlight the facet of the motif

Sequential form- Continuous development of the movement phrases

Rondo-This is the ABCA form

Three part form- This is the ABA form

Repetition Emphasis of the movements or phrases

Continuity and Development Themes and motifs which progress in specific order

AB The simplest of the sequential forms

Sustained movements are done smoothly, continuously and with flow and control

Percussive- movements are explosive and sharp

Vibratory- movements consist of trembling or shaking

Swinging- movements trace a curved line or an arc in space

Suspended- movements are perched in space or hanging

Collapsing- abruptly giving in to gravity, and letting the body descend on the floor

Motif- Also known as theme
