I feel delight to hereby put forward this report titled ''SIX MONTHS OF
INTERNSHIP'' in the hotel industry as a part of my partial fulfillment for the
degree of Bachelor in travel and tourism studies but as a part of hospitality
industry to get new experience in the same field. This report is a kind
endorsement by our teacher to our efforts.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude as well as appreciation to my


teachers of ''KATHMANDU ACADEMY OF TOURISM & HOSPITALITY
COLLEGE'' for providing us the platform to excel and assist us with their
propound knowledge, guidance, encourgement and the continues support.

CHAPTER ONE

INTRODUCTION TO INTERNSHIP

1.1 INTRODUCTION OF INTERNSHIP


An Internship is a trained and supervised experience in a professional setting in
which the student is learning and gaining essential experience and expertise.
Internship is meant for introducing candidates either full-time or part-time to a
real world experience related to their carrier goals and interests.

As per Bachelor of Travel and Tourism studies(BTTS) course structure, the


students are required to undertake 6 month of industrail practice for the partial
fulfillment of BTTS Seventh semester course of study.

1.1 OBJECTIVE OF INTERNSHIP


The main objective of the internship course is to facilitate reflection on
experiences obtained in the internship and to enhance understanding of
academic material by application in the internship setting. Internships will
provide students the opportunity to test their interest in a particular career before
permanent commitments are made.

1.2 PERIOD OF INTERNSHIP


The period of my internship for the partial fulfillment of BTTS VII semester
was 6 months started from 19 February

2.1 BRIEF INTRODUCTION TO ORGANIZATION

In the heart of Malaysia and the city of putrajaya,lies Palm Garden hotel,
established in 1st of july 1995 which is a 4 star resort hotel on 330 acres of
scenic and attractive IOI Resort City. The resort is strategically located 5
minutes from Putrajaya Adminstrative center , 30 minutes from the bright lights
of kuala Lumpur International Airport , Sepang.

The hotel has maximum 151 furnished rooms including 93 heliconia room, 32
orchid rooms and 26 Anthurium suit room surrounding with a courtyard, 3
dining outlets, 11 multi-functional banquet rooms and a host of recreational
activities that caters to guest every need, Just minutes from the hotel are the 18
hole prestigious golf course , Palm Garden Golf Club and IOI City Mall ,
offering over 300 retail outlets , dining outlets , Cinema and Bowling alley.

Palm Garden Hotel is well known for its excellent buffets served at Palms Cafe.
The a la carte menu at palms cafe and courtyard also has several specialities
that offers variety of food menus. Special promotion of a la carte items are
served at monthly basis during special time.

From large conventions to small meetings and events, Palm Garden Hotel adds
value for their guest by providing versatile meeting spaces, sensational meals
and standard service catering to their needs and sales and banquet team offers
the very best in meetings and events,no matter the size
2.2 NATURE OF INTERNSHIP AS ASSIGNED

Internship is a job training for white collar and professional careers. Internship
for professional careers are similar in some ways but not as for professions.
Interns may be college or university students , high school students or post
graduate adults. These positions may be paid or unpaid and are usually
temporary.

I was assigned as a housekeeping staff for 3 months and bell boy for 3 months
my job was to work with the staff of housekeeping . Basically, housekeeping
means up-keeping of the hotel where up-keep means keeping a clean,
comfortable and safe hotel. Housekeeping department in hotel for me was to be
responsible for the cleanliness, and up keep the property. This department is
also responsible for every aspect of guest room that is to provide all the required
guest supplies and materials according to the guest request during their stay in
hotel. At the same time , housekeeping maintains an ensure security for the
rooms property and guest belongings and hand over to the House keeping
manager.

My experience in bell boy was also very different . Bellboys are usually one of
the main points of contact for guests, and they tend to need such as mailing
letters , sending news papers and providing information about local area
attractions . When not helping guest bellboy should assist in keeping the hotel
lobby area neat and clean . In large hotels bell boys usually report to the bell
captain , and bell captains give us the assignments such as sending mails ,record
hours for payroll and handle complaints .Bell boys job is not only to stand in the
lobby but also to check the lobby area and parking area etc .It was my first
experience and understand various things about duties and responsibilities of a
bell boy.
CHAPTER THREE

ACHIEVEMENTS

Internship is the professional growth that I was able to develop through


networking and interactions with great people on various projects. I've gotton to
experience the real work in real world . This was my first visit in a international
place , in a international hotel able to learn many new things and I've learned
that it takes a team to get things done that patience and understanding are great
skills to have because everyone has their own schedule with tasks to accomplish
By working with numerous supervisiors , I've become comfortable with
speaking and have been able to adapt to many communication styles . I've been
able to meet many people and realized that it is up to me to make opportunities.

During this internship there were many personal achievement that I've made and
to me they're important because i would usually spend a few hours trying to
make it happen. There are few challenges that i faced and the biggest challenge
I have face in my internship is lack of experience. the second challenge I faced
is long working hours . I work Six days a week . Moreover , if there are more
occupancy in hotel than i have to work more than working hours . The third
challange i have face is difficulty in handling some guests . Some guests have
different attitudes and handling them is very difficult job.
3.1 DETAILS OF SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE ACCURED
An internship is the first opportunity to apply the skills and knowledge we have
learned in our training program. Experience is the skill or knowledge that you
get by observing or participating in something, and an insternship is a great way
to do it,we participate in an internship that is not directly releated to our
interests but still gain many benifits,including developing valuable transferable
skills sought by all employers that are analytical,problem solving,
communication that span all academic majors as well as diverse industries.

My internship stressed to me the importance of communication and teamwork


especially. On top of that I have learned that teamwork is a must we have to
know how to ask for help, how to give help and how to work with others to
collaborate effectively, These days , employers not only look for candidates
with content knowledge or technical expertise, but also leadership and
teamwork skills I have learned that taking advantage of any opportunities helps
to build our skills in internship. The most valuable part of my internship
experience was that it taught me what I did not want in a career and found out
that I would not be happy working for the rest of my life in cubicle . At the end
of my internship in Malaysia it took me from a guy who only thinks about his
social life to someone who is constantly thinking about his future . I learned that
working in a professional environment through an internship can help us feel
more comfortable , confident and can provide us the skills that can be applied in
the future .

New jobs and internships present opportunities to learn technical skills, day to
day operations, business awarness and professional etiquette,It allows us to
develop new ideas and techniques of handling the job .Internships provide us
the opportunity to enhance such skiils like effective communication in both the
written and spoken word are the most valuable transferable skills that employers
seek.
CHAPTER FOUR

FEED BACK

My internship in Palm garden Hotel was the first instance of me, working in a
professional field. This experience brought out my strength and added more
confidence to my professional approach built a positive attitude and taught me
how to work in team as a player. This was my first experience to work in 4 star
Hotel .In the beginning I was quiet nervous about it , During my 6 months of
training in a new environment I have developed a lot of confidence and courage
in this industry . So, I feel lucky to have Palm Garden Hotel as the place of my
first work experience. I had no idea of the challenges to be faced after putting
my foot in the professional world, The job was demanding but I did my best to
create value for the Hotel and for myself as well.

My experience at the hotel was highly educative one . I went to different


departments of the hotel and got lot of experience . I worked in two departments
of the hotel Housekeeping department and Front office department. In these
departments I get to learn many things which will be helpful in future.

I also learned the values and importance of this industry and experienced that
this is much superior field than most of the other field during my training. As a
human being . I noticed many changes in my attitude . I am more confident and
more likely to do any work now. During my training ,I enjoyed the challenges
I faced every single day. I learned that this is just the beginning of the road and I
have to travel a long distance to be a successful person in this field. But in the
end I must say that this experience will prove an objective in my career in the
hotel industry.
