Communications and Multimedia Coordinator Position

GEM is hiring 3 Communications & Multimedia Coordinators! Are you an analytics enthusiast?

our next Communications & Multimedia Coordinator! Being a part of the GEM family means

a youth-led organization, and further develop your skills and knowledge.

About the Girls Empowerment Movement

Since 2013, the Girls Empowerment Movement (GEM) has provided leadership, mentorship
and empowerment opportunities to youth in the Peel Region. As a youth-led organization, we
are dedicated to social change at the grassroots level by creating dialogue and taking action on
issues that matter to youth today. We have hosted 20+ initiatives to date.

Key Responsibilities
★ Works closely with GEM’s Communications & Multimedia Directors
★ Assists in maintaining social media channels such as Facebook, Twitter, Weebly and
Instagram, etc.
★ Researches and develops original and curated content for our newsletters, articles,
online posts, etc.
★ Assists in creating necessary marketing materials (i.e. posters, visuals via Canva account
or personal editing programs) for all GEM related events (Facebook event page,
workshop flyers, delegate packages, etc.)
★ Participates in in-person and/or online team meetings on an ongoing basis
★ Helps coordinate event and initiative programs including leading activities
★ Collaborates with all members of the GEM team

Requirements and Qualifications

★ Ability to commit 2-5 hours weekly from October 2019-June 2020.
★ Person who identifies as a young woman, non-binary and/or gender diverse who are
currently attending high school in the Peel Region
★ Passionate about gender equality, youth and community engagement, and
★ Solid knowledge of the local Peel Region community (e.g. school boards, community
★ Some experience with working with teams or clubs in school or the community
★ Some experience with creating visual materials

Steps for Applying:

1) Draft a mock tweet (~280 characters max) and write a 250-500 word blog post about women
empowerment / gender equality.
2) Prepare a cover letter and résumé
3) Let us know your availability during a typical school week
