APPLICATION INFORMATION:
This product is designed primarily for spray application. Consult with a Whitford representative if other
types of application are being considered. Use an air spray gun with a siphon cup or pressure pot.
Select a fluid nozzle and air cap that meet application needs. The Whitford Laboratory uses a Binks
Model 2001 with a #66S fluid nozzle and a #66SD air cap. The air supply line must be equipped with
traps to remove water and oil. Drain and service traps frequently.
When using HVLP guns, the XLR topcoats will not atomize as readily as a conventional topcoat. In order
to get optimal smoothness, atomization air should be increased to 60 psi. or possibly more depending on
specific equipment being used.
FLASH OR AIR DRY: FLASH 5 MINUTES AT 175 - 200ºF (79 - 93ºC) Primer must be uniformly
dry prior to application of topcoat to prevent blistering.
BAKE SCHEDULE: The part should reach a PMT (peak metal temperature) 0f 10-5 minutes at
730-750°F (388-399°C). Alternatively, the part temperature should be
between 700-750°F (371-399°C) for at least 15 minutes, but not to exceed
30 minutes. When curing large and massive parts, it is especially important
to limit the total time that the part temperature is above 700°F (371°C) to
30 minutes or less.
COATING SPECIFICATIONS:
Evaluate the coating according to the following specifications:
PENCIL HARDNESS: H - 2H GLOSS: MEDIUM
CURE TEST: NONE – CURED FILM WILL BE SMOOTH AND UNIFORM WITH GOOD
FINGERNAIL SCRATCH RESISTANCE
ADHESION: 1.0 MM CROSSHATCH & PLACE IN BOILING WATER FOR 15
MINUTES; APPLY 5 TAPE PULLS = NO LOSS OF ADHESION.
OTHER: USE TEMPERATURE: 260ºC CONTINUOUS; 315ºC INTERMITTENT.
EXCELLENT RELEASE & NON WETTING CHARACTERISTICS.
