Landscaping

III. PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

The goal of this project was to create a healthy and welcoming outdoor
learning environment to the learners. Also, it aims to implement the school
beautification and landscaping program of the school. This landscape project
will be design at the entrance of Irisan National High School beside canteen 1
with an approximate lot area of 20 square meters.

The landscape will be divided into two designs; vertical and horizontal
landscaping. The vertical plot will be design and arrange in such a way that
the name of the school will be written and emphasize through the use of
hanging pots that contain plants. While the horizontal plot will be design in
such a way that it will looks like dessert,shrubland and mountain range with
water falls. The landscape will be design deligently so as to make the school
beautiful, that can serve as stress reduction to students and teachers due to
school works and pressures of different school activities.

IV. RATIONALE

A well-maintained school provides a safe and attractive learning environment


for students. School beautification and landscaping projects, can offer much
more than physical improvements to the school buildings and grounds.
Landscaping is the design of outdoor spaces with flowers, water features and
other landscape elements that help achieving better and healthy sustainable
school environment.

In support to the attainment of DepEd’s vision, mission and core values, the
school promotes the observance and implementation of one of its core
values which is the makakalikasan. In this regard, school stakeholders such
as teachers and students must observe its implementation by showing the
caring attitude towards any environment program of the school.

Irisan National High School (INHS) is one of the big schools in the Division of
Baguio City. Due to its increasing population, additional school buildings were
constructed that makes the school developed in terms of building
construction. However, to make the school more beautiful, ecological
balance should be observed.

Further, INHS is one of the competitive schools in the division, region and
even national level competition in terms of academics, sports and others.
However, seldom they join the city competition for landscaping during the
celebration of Panagbenga festival. In addition, some residence at Irisan
Barangay and nearby areas, it cannot deny the fact that their sources of
living is flower gardening. Thus, it is but proper to showcase and promote
their living through landscaping.

The reasons stated above prompted the proponents, to push through with
this project to find ways by which they can help the school in the
implementation of its program on school beautification and landscaping.
Also, to constantly remind the school stakeholders that one way to show care
to the environment is the preservation of ornamental and non-ornamental
plants and other endemic plants through landscaping.

V. PRE-IMPLEMENTATION PHASE:

A. Preparatory Mechanisms

The proponents first sought permission to the school principal and donors for
the project/innovation. After the permission was granted and finding a
comitted donors, necessary papers like the project/innovation proposal will
be prepared for approval. Once the proposal is approved by the
superintendent, communication among the different members of the project
will be sought. This will be done to ensure that all the members of the project
will work hand in hand to finish the project.

These school beautification includes landscaping where creative design and


floral craftsmanship should be considered in planting the ornamental and
non-ornamental plants. The landscaping was planned diligently where it
includes its natural elements such as ornamental and non-ornamental plants,
grass, soil, rocks, pebbles, clay and plastic pots, driftwoods etc.

VI. IMPLEMENTATION PHASE

July 16-19: Preparation of the site where the landscape is to be


designed.
July 22-31: Collection of ornamental and non-ornamental plants, soil,
rocks, driftwoods, flower pots and other materials needed
in the landscape.
July 29-31: Start of landscaping design.
August 1 - 15: Landscaping was fully designed and established.

VII. POST IMPLEMENTATION PHASE:

A. Sustainability

When the landscape has been fully established, project report will be
submitted. The proponents will continue to take good care and maintain the
beauty of the landscape all through out the school year and the coming
school years. Cultivating, weeding and planting of new ornamental and non-
ornamental plants is needed so as to maintain its artistic design. The
proponents will also do re-landscaping in case it will be destroy due to
human and natural calamities.

To ensure that the landscape will be sustained, the proponents will ask the
school stakeholders to promote, preserve and take good care of the
landscape. Also, to check if the landscape made an impact on the school
stakeholders, follow up research may be conducted to find if the purpose of
the project has been achieved.
