August 20, 2019 How one may become a successful engineer manager? “A teacher teaches the world as it is but an engineer creates the world that has never been.” Planning to be an engineer takes a lot of guts, expect that it will be easy along the way. You should know first how the real world works, the world nowadays needs a person who could compete and has great abilities to stand on the same level as others. It will take a lot of skills and mental ability on how to deal with the world’s issues to be an effective and competitive engineer, it will be a challenging career. Before entering college, a strategic plan and preparation are needed already like choosing your school. You always need to have a positive outlook in life even you are stressed already because of school works and extracurricular activities. You should always think that engineering is not just a career but it is also your medium where you can express your ideas and make the world a better place to live. The most basic thing that you should learn on engineering is its fundamentals and basic principles. Copying and memorizing is not effective in engineering, that will only work on a short period so you should understand the meaning of what you’ve learn instead of concentrating your time repeating things all over again. There’s a lot of tips that you should know which is important for you to be a successful engineer like defining your goals, choosing a life career is a commitment so whatever path you choose always look back of the reasons why you’re still there fighting and not giving up on your dreams. Commit yourself to continuous professional development, your technical skills alone is not enough for you to be an efficient engineer, communication, teamwork , and presentation skills also is a plus factor also that you should not underestimate. Understand business, businessmen are more likely has a business outlook so they are more interested in return on investment than they are with the innovative approach you take on solving their problem, just understand what makes decision makes tick. Work hard, be optimistic, and embrace change so be flexible. You can also learn a lot from your mentors, role models, and professors to help you further develop your career. If there is a way you can talk to them, ask questions. Atlast, rest a bit. Don’t push yourself too much. Ofcourse, strategic planning and full preparation is needed but good mindset by having some rest will lead you even more to a healthy perspective. Motivate yourself, read some articles about the successful people as it will give you an inspiration and encouragement for you to be like them too. Also, don’t forget to pray, have faith in God, do good deeds as it will turn back to you.
