ُ َ ‫ ﴿ ا‬ words used in conversation

Allah ﴾ ‫ﷲ‬
The entire religion of Islam is based on the idea of getting closer to Allah . So there is an emphasis
in Islamic tradition to begin everything with Allah’s name by using the Arabic phrase "Bismillah"
which means "In the name of Allah ". Muslims when referring to the name of Allah  often add the
words "Subhaa-nahu Wa-Ta'ala" after it meaning "The Exalted and the Great" as a sign of reverence.

Muslims also tend to use many other phrases in their daily lives that contain the word Allah  the
following list of Arabic words used normally in conversations:

When you see or hearing good or bad: "Allahu Akbar" ُ َ ‫ﷲ اَ ﻛ‬


﴾ ‫ْﱪ ط‬ ُ َ‫﴿ا‬
"Allah  is the Greatest"

Beginning of anything: "Bismillah" ﴾‫ﷲط‬


ِ ‫﴿ ِﺑ ْﺴ ِﻢ ا‬
"In the Name of Allah "

When intending to do something: "Insha Allah" ﴾‫ﷲ ط‬


ُ ‫﴿ اِ ْن َﺷﲞ َء ا‬
"If Allah  wills"

When you see calamitous: "Ya Allah" ُ َ ‫﴿ َﻳﺎ ا‬


﴾‫ﷲ ط‬
"Oh Allah "

For praising something: Subhan-allah" ﴾‫ﷲ ط‬


ُ ‫﴿ ُﺳ ْﺒ َﺤﺎ َن ا‬
"Glory be to Allah "

For expressing appreciation of something good: "Masha-Allah" ﴾‫ﷲ ط‬


ُ ‫﴿ َﻣﺎ َﺷﲞ َء ا‬
"Just as Allah  willed"

For showing gratitude to Allah after success or "Allhamdu lillah" ِ ّٰ ِ ‫﴿ ا َ ﻟْ َﺤ ْﻤ ُﺪ‬


﴾ ‫ﻪﻠﻟ ط‬
even after completing anything: "All praise be to Allah "

For expression of thanks someone: "Jazakallahu khayran" ﴾ ‫ﲑا ط‬


ً ْ ‫ﷲ َﺧ‬ َ ‫﴿ َﺟ َﺰ‬
ُ ‫اك ا‬
"May Allah  reward you well with goodness"

Responding to someone thanks/ "Barakallahu feekum" ُ ‫ﷲ ﻓِ ْﻴ‬


﴾‫ﳉ ْﻢ ط‬ ُ ‫ﺎر َك ا‬
َ َ‫﴿ ﺑ‬
a way of expressing thanks: "May Allah  bless you all."

When an evil thought comes to mind: "A'oozu-billah" ِ ‫﴿ ا َ ُﻋ ْﻮذُ ِﺑﺎ‬


﴾‫ﷲ ط‬
"I seek protection with Allah "

When abstains from doing wrong, "Astaghfirullah" َ ‫﴿ ا َْﺳ َﺘ ْﻐ ِﻔ ُﺮ ا‬


﴾‫ﷲ ط‬
even when talking to another: "I seek forgiveness of Allah "
