WRs often randomly use generic phrasing terms from HCI notes and samples, e.g. appeal to fun, shock,
fear, relationships. This exercise is to help groups:
To comment on the appeals/ used in current measures &/or
To justify their own overall approach &/or
To justify specific ideas in Ch3-4 to persuade specific targets
As you watch your video clip individually, fill in the table provided as well as you can. For each
letter, try to think of different words or umbrella terms to refer to or label the different appeals /
approaches / motivations to which people respond. A few have been filled in as examples.
Note: The letters of the alphabet are there to trigger your thinking.
If you have difficulty thinking of concepts of appeal / approach / motivation, recall advertisements,
campaigns and even past lessons and curricula (e.g. for NE or CME) for different subjects in
school. What appeals or approaches were used over the years, in your experiences?
You may google for synonyms or google phrases like “how to motivate people” etc
