A Detailed Lesson Plan in Reading

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
a. enumerate the different factors affecting reading;
b. distinguish the different terms related to the factors affecting reading and;
c. appreciate reading and the factors affecting it.

Class, those words are the “Factors Affecting
Reading.” Factors Affecting Reading, Ma’am.
What are those words again?

Ok, Let’s define Linguistic first. It is related to


language or the study of language and of the
language work.

When we hear the word Linguistic, the first
word that must be in our mind is language. Is
that clear?

Next one is intellectual. Any idea about the
word intellectual?

Ok, very good! Intellectual is the ability to think


in a logical way. When we say logical we are
able to reason out.

Another thing is that, we have this serious
study or thought or simply means being smart.

Things that has lives.
Then, we have here physiological. From the
word physical. This is a branch of science that
deals with the ways that living things function.
By the way, who are the living things?

Another one is, Psychological. It is a study of


the mind. It is how we react or what is our
behaviour or attitude.

Then, Sociological which are related to or
directed to social needs or problems. Things
that are around us. Ok?

Class, to be able to understand more the


different factors affecting reading. There are
words or terms related to them.

For instance, we have here physiological or


physical. The related words are visual and
auditory. (Student will raised their hand and answer)
Can anybody give his/her idea about visual? Visual is related to the things that we can see.

There are five factors affecting reading and they have these related words that is attached to them,
which are:
1. Sociological (family, society and environment)
2. Intellectual (memory and content)
3. Physiological (visual and auditory)
4. Psychological (emotion, attitude and interest)
5. Linguistic (vocabulary, sentence, letter recognition, and sound-symbol relationship)
V. Evaluation
Direction: Identify which factors affecting reading is being described in the following situation.
1. My favourite story is about adventure. (Psychological)
2. The pre-schoolers are combining the sounds of the letters. (Linguistic)
3. Lanie and her friends went to the library. (Sociological)
4. I don’t like to read when I’m sad. (Psychological)
5. The children will have spelling quiz tomorrow. (Linguistic)
6. The blackboard is far from you and you can’t see the writings clearly. (Physiological)
7. My mother helps me to become a better reader. (Sociological)
8. I analyse every scene of the story. (Intellectual)
9. You are in the middle of the class and outside was very noisy. (Physiological)
10. Karen knows all the characters in the novel “Hunger Games”. (Intellectual)

VI. Assignment
Give at least 3 situations in each factor affecting reading.
