Initial Scrutineering
- Short briefing to allocate the scrutineers to their groups (according to table above)
- Every group will get a briefing by an FIA Technical Delegate in the morning
- Exemplary templates for scrutineering can be found below; All lists provided by FIA
- Detailed information about Initial Scrutineering can be found in Section 2
Scrutineering during sessions

General:
- Only during free practice and qualifying
- Scrutineers divided into two teams: tyre checks + weighing checks
- Briefing for both groups after Initial Scrutineering has finished
Tyre checks:
- Tyre scanner collection by the scrutineers from FIA Technical Delegate before the
session
- Each scrutineer has a defined area (usually 2 teams) under control
- Tyre scanning manual can be found in Section 3
- Cars usually enter pitlane on travel tyres (wet tyre marked with a golden line in the
center of the running tread)
- No need to scan travel tyres
- No scanning during pitstop practice / pitstop in race
- Give priority to team members if they want to take tyre pressures
- At the end of the session collect all tyre scanner and return to FIA Technical Delegate
Weighing checks:
- Before session starts mobile scale has to be set up
- FIA Technical Delegate will select cars by random
- Car must stop completely with engine off in front of mobile scale (Cone in front of the
car)
- Car is pushed onto the mobile scale; Don’t use the top element of the rear wing for
pushing the car

Scrutineering after sessions

After Qualifying:
- All cars arrive in parc fermé
o Organization of parc fermé with FIA Technical Delegate
o All scrutineers in parc fermé
- Start of tyre checks, tyre pressure checks, platform checks
- Details for scrutineering checks in Section 3
- Fire marshall required in parc fermé to cover fuel samples taken by FIA
- No team personnel is allowed in parc fermé without permission of FIA Technical
Delegate
- Pirelli team members are allowed to go into parc fermé for tyre checks
- Cooling devices for cars can be installed by teams after approve of FIA Technical
Delegate
- After platform checks finished, cars go to teams for skid block and extra checks; 1
scrutineer per car required
- Return of tyre scanners to FIA Technical Delegate after finishing tyre checks
After Race:
- Top 3 cars arrive under podium
o 3 scrutineers must stay at the podium to escort the cars from podium to the
parc fermé
o All other scrutineers directly to parc fermé
- Start of tyre checks, tyre pressure checks, platform checks
- Same procedures as in qualifying

Section 3: Scrutineering checks

Platform checks:
Below you can find a summary of the different checks that are carried out on the measuring
platform. A template for each check is available from the FIA Technical Delegate.


Parc Fermé checks:

Skid block checks:
- After each qualifying session and after each race
- Check in teams awning (or box)
- Allowed thickness
o FIA Formula 2: 5mm +/-1mm
o FIA Formula 3: 5mm +/-1mm
- Thickness must be measured in a single position around the periphery of one of the
seven original skid block scrutineering holes
Tyre Pressure Checks:

- Minimum tyre pressure defined by Pirelli for every race track
- Pressures and temperatures checked in parc fermé
- Tyre pressures and temperatures checked on positions similar to pictures below
- Protocols available to write down the measurements
- Scrutineers must be aware that pressures are very sensitive information
➔ No team personnel is allowed to see pressures / temperatures

Tyre Checks:
General:
- Each tyre scanner is loaded with tyre data from all cars of one championship
- All tyre scrutineers are allocated to the same tyre scanner for the whole event
- Each tyre scanner has a marking, e.g. F2 Tyre 1
- Each scrutineer responsible for 1 – 2 teams while in pitlane
- Tyres should be checked when car stops at their respective teams
- Don’t scan tyres:
o When the car is about to leave the pitlane
o When the team wants to check tyre pressures
o During a pitstop in the race
o After the 3 minute signal on the grid
