ABSTRACT
Software engineering provides methodologies, concepts and practices, which are used for analyzing,
designing, building and maintaining the information in a software industry. Software Development
Life Cycle (SDLC) model is an approach used in the software industry for the development of various
size projects: small scale projects, medium scale projects and large scale projects. A software project
of any size is developed with the co-ordination of development team. It is therefore important to
assign resources intelligently to the different phases of the software project by the project manager.
This study proposes a model for the spiral development process with the use of a simulator
(Simphony.NET), which helps the project manager in determining how to increase the productivity
of a software firm with the use of minimum resources (expert team members). This model increase
the utilization of different development processes by keeping all development team members busy
all the time, which helps in decreasing idle and waste time.

ABSTRACT
This paper reports on experiences of teaching Computer Vision for robotic telemedicine cluster
system, within the practice based ICTD subject within the undergraduate Software Engineering
Program at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Technology Sydney (UTS). Topics described by
this paper include shared experiences in designing and implementing Computer Vision subsystem
and discusses successes, as well as common problems both experienced and anticipated in
adaptation of OpenCV framework for building a robotic system for telemedicine. One of the main
objectives of the ICTD is to bridge the gap between the students’ theoretical knowledge of design
and programming with the practical side of software reuse and modularization when designing and
implementing a robotic system for medical applications.

ABSTRACT
A Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) is proposed to build an Adaptive Neuro Fuzzy Inference
System (ANFIS) for controlling a full vehicle nonlinear active suspension system. A Very High speed
integrated circuit Hardware Description Language (VHDL) has been used to implement the proposed
controller. An optimal Fraction Order 𝑃𝐼 𝜆 𝐷 µ (FOPID) controller is designed for a full vehicle
nonlinear active suspension system. Evolutionary Algorithm (EA) has been applied to modify the five
parameters of the FOPID controller (i.e. proportional constant 𝐾𝑝 , integral constant 𝐾𝑖 , derivative
constant 𝐾𝑑 , integral order λ and derivative order µ). The data obtained from the FOPID controller
are used as a reference to design the ANFIS model as a controller for the controlled system. A hybrid
approach is introduced to train the ANFIS. A Matlab Program has been used to design and simulate
the proposed controller. The ANFIS control parameters obtained from the Matlab program are used
to write the VHDL codes. Hardware implementation of the FPGA is dependent on the configuration
file obtained from the VHDL program. The experimental results have proved the efficiency and
robustness of the hardware implementation for the proposed controller. It provides a novel
technique to be used to design NF controller for full vehicle nonlinear active suspension systems
with hydraulic actuators.

ABSTRACT
Telepresence robots have recently been introduced as a way for children who are homebound due
to medical conditions to attend their local schools. These robots provide an experience that is a
much richer learning experience than the typical home instruction services of 4-5 hours a week.
Because the robots on the market today were designed for use by adults in work settings, they do
not necessarily fit children in school settings. We carried out a study of 19 homebound students,
interviewing and observing them as well as interviewing their parents, teachers, administrators, and
classmates. We organized our findings along the lines of the various tasks and settings the child is
in, developing a learner-centered analytic framework, then teacher-, classmate-, and homebound-
controller-centered analytic frameworks. Although some features of current robots fit children in
school settings, we discovered a number of cases where there was a mismatch or additional features
are needed. Our findings are described according to analytic frames that capture user experiences.
Based on these user-centered findings, we provide recommendations for designing the robot and
user interface to better fit children using robots for school and learning activities.

NHS AI Lab: why we need to be ethically mindful about AI for healthcare
Jessica Morley. Oxford Internet Institute, University of Oxford, 1 St. Giles’,
Oxford, OX1 3JS
Luciano Floridi. Alan Turing Institute, 96 Euston Road, London, NW1 2DM

ABSTRACT
On 8th August 2019, Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Matt Hancock, announced the
creation of a £250 million NHS AI Lab. This significant investment is justified on the belief that
transforming the UK’s National Health Service (NHS) into a more informationally mature and
heterogeneous organisation, reliant on data-based and algorithmically-driven interactions, will offer
significant benefit to patients, clinicians, and the overall system. These opportunities are realistic
and should not be wasted. However, they may be missed (one may recall the troubled Care.data
programme) if the ethical challenges posed by this transformation are not carefully considered from
the start, and then addressed thoroughly, systematically, and in a socially participatory way. To deal
with this serious risk, the NHS AI Lab should create an Ethics Advisory Board and monitor, analyse,
and address the normative and overarching ethical issues that arise at the individual, interpersonal,
group, institutional and societal levels in AI for healthcare.

ABSTRACT
IRC6 cryptosystem is an improvement on RC6 which was developed in the course of this research to
guard against crypto-analytical attack. This is achieved by doubling its security at little or no
computational cost. RC6 is an improvement on RC5, and RC5 was an improvement on RC4. IRC6 is
designed to meet the requirements of increased security and better performance. Object-oriented
analysis and design methodology (OOADM) together with Java programming and Development
technologies were used to implement both Normal RC6 algorithm and improved RC6 (IRC6)
cryptographic algorithm in this research in order to achieve the research goal which is to show the
significant improvement of IRC6 over normal RC6 by carrying out performance evaluations of the
two algorithms. The developed IRC6 was also evaluated to have transparent cipher-text and thereby
found to survive any crypto-analytical attack.

AN EFFICIENT ALGORITHM TO CALCULATE THE CONNECTIVITY OF HYPER-
RINGS DISTRIBUTED NETWORKS

ABSTRACT
The aim of this paper is develop a software module to test the connectivity of various odd-sized HRs
and attempted to answer an open question whether the node connectivity of an odd-sized HR is
equal to its degree. We attempted to answer this question by explicitly testing the node
connectivity's of various oddsized HRs. In this paper, we also study the properties, constructions,
and connectivity of hyper-rings. We usually use a graph to represent the architecture of an
interconnection network, where nodes represent processors and edges represent communication
links between pairs of processors. Although the number of edges in a hyper-ring is roughly twice
that of a hypercube with the same number of nodes, the diameter and the connectivity of the hyper-
ring are shorter and larger, respectively, than those of the corresponding hypercube. These
properties are advantageous to hyper-ring as desirable interconnection networks. This paper
discusses the reliability in hyper-ring. One of the major goals in network design is to find the best
way to increase the system’s reliability. The reliability of a distributed system depends on the
reliabilities of its communication links and computer elements.

ABSTRACT
Blockchain technology is ready to disrupt nearly every industry and business model, and the energy
sector is no exception. Energy businesses across the world have already started exploring the use of
blockchain technology in large-scale energy trading systems, peer-to-peer energy trading, project
financing, supply chain tracking, and asset management among other applications. Information and
Communication Technologies (ICTs) recently started revolutionizing the energy landscape, and now
blockchain technology is providing an additional opportunity to make the energy system more
intelligent, efficient, transparent, and secure in the longer term. The idea of this paper is to examine
more closely the use of blockchain technology for its possible application in the energy efficiency
industry and to determine how it could make energy efficiency markets more secure and
transparent in the longer term. This paper examines in detail the key benefits and implications of
using blockchain in the energy efficiency sector through the presentation and discussion of two case
studies as possible blockchain applications—(i) the UK Energy Company Obligation scheme and (ii)
the Italian White Certificate Scheme. We have presented how the key issues around trading energy
efficiency savings—correctly estimating the savings, data transparency among stakeholders, and
inefficient administrative processes—can be solved through the application of a blockchain-based
smart contract system. Finally, this paper presents an implementation of a smart contract for trading
of energy saving certificates achieved via execution of smart contract transactions on the Ethereum
blockchain.

ABSTRACT
The increasing volume of data in large networks to be analyzed imposes new challenges to an
intrusion detection system. Since data in computer networks is growing rapidly, the analysis of these
large amounts of data to discover anomaly fragments has to be done within a reasonable amount
of time. Some of the past and current intrusion detection systems are based on a clustering
approach. However, in order to cope with the increasing amount of data, new parallel methods
need to be developed in order to make the algorithms scalable. In this paper, we propose an
intrusion detection system based on a parallel particle swarm optimization clustering algorithm
using the MapReduce methodology. The use of particle swarm optimization for the clustering task
is a very efficient way since particle swarm optimization avoids the sensitivity problem of initial
cluster centroids as well as premature convergence. The proposed intrusion detection system
processes large data sets on commodity hardware. The experimental results on a real intrusion data
set demonstrate that the proposed intrusion detection system scales very well with increasing data
set sizes. Moreover, it achieves close to the linear speedup by improving the intrusion detection and
false alarm rates.
