Create your own

Objective:
Design and create an updated Game of LIFE using what you know about life in 2018. You will
need to work with your group to research the different components and decide which parts of
the game you will change. Your final product must include a game board, an instructions
manual and game pieces (career cards, house deeds etc). Be creative! Your final product will be
graded on how well you’ve researched, how realistic your game is and how creative your
changes are.

Minimum requirements:
- 10 career cards including job title, salary range, three hard skills and three soft skills
required
- 6 house deeds including type of housing, maximum occupancy, market price
- 20 LIFE tiles – special achievements and rewards
- 10 unfortunate events – problems, consequences, and ways to solve
- Two insurance policies, a bank loan and a student loan
- A game board with at least 50 spaces
- An instructions manual outlining all the changes you have made to the game

Your game should include at least 10 different careers relevant to 2018. For each card, include
the job title, the salary range, and three skills needed to obtain the job.

C. Insurance Policies and Bank Loans:
Insurance policies help to offset the cost of unpredictable, often costly events. People pay a
small amount every month or year and if unfortunate circumstances arise, the insurance will
pay for it. You should have two types of insurance in your game. At some point in your game,
players may need a bank loan or a student loan. Decide how much interest would be based on
research.

D. Life Tiles:
Each LIFE tile carries a secret message outlining a special achievement in life and a reward at
the end of the game. You may use the tiles from the game as inspiration but you must come up
with twenty new, 2018-relevant achievements.

F. Game Spaces
You should have different types of spaces in your game. In the original game:
ORANGE = most spaces are orange. Non-optional, you must follow the directions.
BLUE = these spaces are optional. You follow directions only if you want to.
GREEN = these are pay day spaces. Collect your salary if you land on, or pass these spaces. You
should not have more than 10 pay days (that’s 20% of your board).
RED = these force players to stop, even if they have moves left. In the original game, these
spaces include: Job Search, Get Married, and Buy a House.
LIFE = these spaces show pictures of LIFE tiles. They involve family activities, community service
and good deeds.
