The Institution of Engineers (India)/IEI is the largest
multidisciplinary professional body that encompasses
15 engineering disciplines and gives engineers a global
platform from which to share professional interest. IEI
has membership strength of above 0.8 million.
Established in 1920, with its HQ’rs at No.8, Gokhale
Road, Kolkata 700020, IEI has served the engineering
fraternity for over nine decades. In this period of time it
has been inextricably linked with the history of modern-
day Engineering.
In 1935, IEI was incorporated by Royal Charter and
remains the only professional body in India which has
been accorded this honour. Today, its quest for
professional excellence has given it a place of pride in
almost every prestigious and relevant organization
across the globe. It provides a vast array of technical,
professional and supporting services to the
Government, Industries, Academia and the Engineering
fraternity, operating through its 123 Centres located
across the country and 6 overseas chapters. Besides,
IEI has bilateral agreements with about 31 international
bodies and membership of another 8 international
bodies of the developed nations across the globe.
Being recognized as a Scientific and Research
Organisation (SIRO) by the Department of Scientific
and Industrial Research, Ministry of Science and
Technology, Government of India, IEI promotes the
cause of research and development by providing Grant-
in-Aid support to undergraduate, post graduate students
and PhD Research Scholars of Engineering Institutions
and Universities.
IEI conducts Section A & B Examinations in various
engineering disciplines (popularly known as AMIE
examination), the successful completion of which is
recognized as equivalent to Degree in appropriate field
of Engineering of recognized Universities of India by the
Ministry of Human Resources Development,
Government of India. Every year large number of
candidates appear for these exams.
IEI in collaboration with Springer regularly publishes
peer-reviewed international journal in five series,
namely, Series A, Series B, Series C, Series D and
Series E covering fifteen engineering disciplines.
The Karnataka State Centre of the Institution,
established at Bangalore in the year, 1934, is one of the
most active Centres in the country. Since its inception, it
has been serving the society in general and the
engineering community, in particular, with the set
objectives and plays a significant role in dissemination
and proliferation of knowledge amongst its members.
Widening its horizon of technical activities, the Centre
has established seven Local Centres to serve more
professional groups.
With a meagre membership strength to start with, the
Centre has brought into its fold a large section of
fraternity with a membership strength of more than
16800 Corporate Members and nearly 34000 Non-
corporate Members. Widening its horizon of technical
activities, the Centre has established nine Local Centres
at Mysore, Dharwad, Munirabad, Gulbarga, Mangalore,
Belgaum, Davangere, Kolar and Tumakuru to serve
more professional groups.
A premier institute imparting technical education since
1986, S J C Institute of Technology college is situated on
Bangalore – Hyderabad National Highway-NH7, 45 kms
from Bangalore city about, 20 kms from Kempe Gowda
International Airport (Bangalore International Airport) and
about 5 kms from Muddenahalli, the birth place of Sir M.
Visvesvaraya. The famous hill resort Nandi hill is about
15 kms from the college.
The Institute is managed by Sri Adichunchanagiri
Shikshana Trust(R.) with the divine blessings of
Byravaikya Jagadguru Padmabhushan Sri Sri Sri Dr.
Balagangadharanatha Maha Swamiji’s and spiritual
guidance of Jagadguru Sri Sri Sri Dr. Nirmalananda
natha Maha Swamiji. The Trust runs more than 485
Institutions all over the states of Karnataka,
Maharashtra, Tamilnadu & Delhi.
SJCIT is affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological
University (VTU), Belgaum. The Institution is recognized
by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE),
New Delhi, Accredited by NAAC and NBA (MED, CSE,
E&C)
The objective of this Seminar is to provide a
comprehensive work on all aspects of pneumatic
drives. It bridges the gap between classical
descriptions of pneumatic systems in terms of their
steady-state behavior and the design engineers to
test their design before setting up the actual
hardware. The Seminar covers the whole range of
today's technology for pneumatic drives. Starting
with a wide selection of linear actuators among them
standard and rod less cylinders, bellows and
diaphragm cylinders, semi-rotatory drives and air
motors are described in detail. Standard directional
control valves, analogue valves as well as pressure
control valves are covered, including their design,
application and modelling. In addition to drives for
factory automation and automotive applications the
technology for the process industry like positioners
or spring-and-diaphragm actuators is described. This
Seminar highlights the basic laws of nature as well
as the design and the modes of operation of
pneumatic components to derive the modelling
equations.
The Seminar will discuss a unique resource and
valuable reference for the professional engineers
who need to design and control pneumatic drives
and identify what needs to be done in the areas of
research, education, and technology transfer in order
to close the gaps.

Each session will include three presentations, by an
expert to introduce the state-of-the-art of a specific
pneumatic drives area and to share his/her views on
the future directions and needs in that area. The three
presentations will be followed by group discussion on
the presentations made.
