ORDINANCE NO. 19-—__ WHEREAS, the salary levels of the Mayor and members of the City Council were last substantially addressed by Ordinance No. 08-23, adopted and approved on January 24, 2008, previously amended by Ordinance No. 09-825, adopted and approved on September 24, 2009; and WHEREAS, during the period of FY 2008 through FY 2020, employees of the City of Huntsville have received a series of cost of living increases (COLA’s), the total of which COLA. increases equals 16% (exclusive of the compounding effect of such serial COLA increases); and WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Council do not receive the benefit of COLA increases; and WHEREAS, based on the considerations hereinabove stated, the City Council has determined it appropriate to adjust the salaries of the Mayor and the City Council by increasing those salaries upward by 15%. THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED, by the City Council of the City of Huntsville, Alabama, as follows: 1. That Section 1 of Ordinance No, 08-23, adopted and approved on January 24, 2008, previously amended by Ordinance No. 09-825, adopted and approved on September 24, 2009, is hereby amended to read as follows: “Section 1. That the annual salary of the Mayor of the City of Huntsville, Alabama, shall be $152,375.00." That Section 2 of Ordinance No, 08-23, adopted and approved on January 24, 2008, is hereby amended to read as follows: “Section 2. That the annual salary of the President of the City Council of the City of Huntsville shall be $45,712.50, and that the annual salary of each member of the City Council other than the President shall be $38,093.75.” 3. That the salary changes set forth herein shall take effect for the mayoral term of office beginning November 2, 2020, there to remain until changed by the City Council in accordance with state law.
