Savana Meyer: Personal Statement

Growing up, I never thought I’d want to go into the medical field. I was more into
being creative and doing projects with drawing, photoshop, and editing film in
premiere pro. However, this changed a few years ago when my mom got a job in
a surgery center. While working there, she allowed me to come to the office
sometimes and I began talking to the doctor and was introduced to a PA
(physician assistant). She explained to me what a PA was and the broad amount
of duties and subfields a PA can go into. For example, they can work in an ER,
pediatrician's office, or event dermatology. I have always been interested in the
skin and cosmetics because people in my family have had procedures done such
as fillers and botox. This lead me to the decision to want to work in a
dermatology office after graduation. For me, working in a dermatology office is
the perfect option due to the fact that I still get to help people and deal with
diseases and other interesting skin issues, but I do not have to deal with people
in shock bleeding out like a PA in an ER might have to.

I am currently attending State College of Florida: Manatee-Sarasota, to acquire

my bachelor’s degree in biology. Starting in Summer of 2020 I will be attending
the University of North Florida to continue my academic journey. I am currently
enrolled in 4 classes and enjoy my Anatomy and Physiology class. I look forward
to continuing my journey towards becoming a PA as well as taking more classes
such as A&P 2, biology and microbiology to obtain the skills needed to someday
work in a dermatology office. Outside of being a college student, I volunteer as a
student athletic trainer at a local high school. This gives me the opportunity to
work with patients and learn skills such as professionalism, teamwork, and how
to work well under pressure.

I plan to graduate with my bachelors degree in biology and go into the PA

program. I would like to intern in a dermatology office if I get the opportunity in
order to get experience in the field as well as in the specific area I would like to
work in. Eventually after graduating from the PA program and gaining experience
in dermatology, I would like to open my own Med spa under a doctor and
become an Injection specialist. I would learn how to do injections such as botox
and filler and own my own business. At this point, my previous experience in
dermatology will help me with patient care and ensure that my clients will get the
best treatment possible. I also plan on staying in the state of florida and building
my practice possibly in the Boca Raton area​.
