Military Brief
David T. Shipko graduated from the Army ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps) Leader Development and Assessment Course, also known as “Operation Warrior Forge,” at Fort Lewis, Tacoma, Wash. The 32 days of training provide the best possible professional training and evaluation for all cadets in the aspects of military life, administration and logistical support. Although continued military training and leadership development is included in the curriculum, the primary focus of the course is to develop and evaluate each cadet’s officer potential as a leader by exercising the cadet’s intelligence, common sense, ingenuity and physical stamina. The cadet command assesses each cadet’s performance and progress in officer traits, qualities and professionalism while attending the course. Cadets in their junior and senior year of college must complete the leadership development course. Upon successful completion of the course, the ROTC program, and graduation from college, cadets are commissioned as second lieutenants in the U.S. Army, National Guard, or Reserve. The cadet is a student at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles. He is the son of David T. and Mary K. Shipko of Westcliffe Court, Sylvania, OH. Shipko graduated in 2007 from St. John’s Jesuit High School, Toledo, Ohio.

READ ALL ABOUT IT

The Toledo Symphony Orchestra will return for the 20th year to play a Neighborhood Concert at St. Joseph Church in Sylvania on Dec. 1 at 7:30 p.m. The first such concert took place in December of 1989. Last year, because of a conflict with dates, a concert was not scheduled. Jeffrey Pollock, conductor of the Toledo Symphony Orchestra, will direct the Neighborhood Concert in a program of classical and Christmas music. Two of the St. Joseph choirs will be included in portions of the program. The Toledo Symphony office has announced the program will include works by Harris (Adeste Fideles); Bach-Walton (Sheep May Safely Graze); Harris (God Rest Ye); Adam (O Holy Night, with children’s choir); Anderson (Song of the Bells); Hess (Christmas Overture);
